There are 3.3.2 and 3.4 RPMS provided by thac, at http://rpm.nyvalls.se However, you should be aware that this is not an easy task, you need to upgrade a lot of packages, and there are some chances that the end result is not good. My update to 3.4-thac went very smoothly, once again thanks thac! Here is my little problem: The lilo entries have disappeared from the kdm screen. In 3.2.x and 3.3.x the lilo entries used to be under "Restart Computer" when selecting "Shutdown" from the kdm login screen, now they are gone. Also I have seen on a screenshot that under 3.4 the lilo options also exist on the window that appears when a user selects logout -- they are not there, either, in my system. Do lilo entries appear on your 3.4 kdm/logout dialog? Thank you in advance.

Hi, I just upgraded my KDE to 3.3.2 using thac's latest RPMs and I am very satisfied with the result. The process was painless, in general, and many things seem to work better and faster than before. The only problem I encountered concerns the widget styles. More specifically, in the KDE Control Center -> LookNFeel -> Style, only the following widget styles are listed after the upgrade: CDE, Compact, MS Windows 9x, Motif, Motif Plus, Platinum, SGI, Thememdk. So there is not Plastik or Keramik, which I think are included with KDE. Is this normal? I have removed and re-installed kdeartwork-....-.RPM, but nothing has changed. Anyone has encountered somehting similar? Does anyone know which file(s) control the Style section of the Control Center, so that I could check them? Many thanks in advance. Hi all, I am using Mandrake 10.1 Community updated to Official. In previous versions of Mandrake I was able to view the files inside RPMs with mc, by simply hitting Enter when an RPM was selected; the file was opened like a directory and I could view, copy, etc the files within. With this version of Mandrake, this is not possible. I can only View the file with F3, which shows me its contents, but I cannot work with the files. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

To see the GUI from where you are (the command prompt, type: startx Now when you log off from the gui you will be at the command prompt again. To convince mandrake to boot into the gui, do the following: At the command prompt login as root. Then type XFdrake Navigate with the arrow keys to Options, with the Tab key to DoIt and answer the question accordingly (it asks whether to boot into the gui!). The go to Close. Next time you will hopefully boot into the gui.

Messing up with partitions is a task for fdisk, not format. I am not sure if I remember this well, but the Windows Setup program will only mess with FAT partitions, it won't even recognize the Linux partition. When it starts, I think it reports the size of the partition, so you can be sure! If you want to delete the DOS partition, you could also do it from inside Linux. There is always the command-line fdisk, or your distribution probably has a graphical tool for the job.

Smart Link provides a driver for their modems at http://www.smlink.com It is provided in source form but detailed installation instructions are included. Other than that, the commercial Mandrake packages have the corresponding RPMs, but your friend would have to buy it...

It is perfectly possible to install directly from the ISO images. This page describes every possible way to install Mandrake, I have followed it with success. Maybe it will be easier to burn the small image mentioned on a CD-RW, boot from it and continue installation. You will be asked for the partition in which you have the images and then it will go on as usual. Good luck!
