    Creative USB modem

To save hastle, I would just go with an externel modem if you can. It will save a lot of headaches.
  2. You XF86Config file should like similar to this: Notice in the modules section, there's: If you are missng that entry, you need it there.
  3. Peanut Linux would be a good choice. Edit: Mepis and Knoppix not good choices, but definalty Peanut.
  4. You'll need GLIBC_2.3.4 which provides libc.so.6, but the easiest way would be urpmi. This means you tried opening a 2nd occurence of urpmi. It maybe you had your software manager running plus typing urpmi in a console. You can only have 1 occurence running. Don't open software manager at all. Open a console and as root do the urpmi fluxbox again and it should find it in your source tree and install it. That's the first thing I would try. If that fails, then add cooker and plf which will have Flux and repeat the urpmi command. If you still get the error regarding libc.so.6, then you'll have to get GLIBC_2.3.4 which I believe is already in your source tree so it should be installed automatically.

    XFCE

If xfce is not in your software manager or urpmi, then you did not install the sources using easy urpmi as suggested in previous posts. I'd suggest you read the faq's regarding urpmi. This will greatly help you in getting xfce installed. Also if you have any other problems, we need specifics if you want our help, i.e. error messeges. Procedures and commands you've performed, etc. We can't help you if we don't know what's going on.
  6. There shouldn't be need to enter this info manually. Go into mcc, then network, and let Mandrake detect and configure your connection. Any further issues, post them.
  7. I know some system admins who are clueless about Windows as well as Linux. They think Linux is crap and we're elites. Sorry for my poor spelling.
  8. I believe it is available from cooker or maybe on one of your cd's as well. Assuming you've added cooker as root: This will give you the weather plugin as well some other useful ones.
  9. Giving up is not an option. If you are getting other errors, post them and we'll sort them out. Also tell me which commands are you doing.
  10. In kde control panel, go to sesion manager and chose confirm log out or shut down. I'm not at my pc now so I can't tell you any more specifics. As for firefox, when you installed it, it would hae asked you where you want to install it. Go to that directory you chose to install it to and run the executable.
  11. You can try going to ati's site to see if they have an updated driver for the 2.6.x kernels.
  12. OK. Easiest way would be to add some ftp sources as described. That message means that it requires another piece of software (dependencies) in order to work. Once you have sources added, type as root from a console: This command will download and install fluxbox with dependencies. Or, if you already downloaded the Flux rpm to a directory, then you can also cd over to the directory from a console and type the above command as root. I will add cooker as well as plf. This is exlpained in the faq's in great detail. It should work. If the above fails, then google for libstdc++.so.6 and install that rpm first, then Flux.
  13. I belive it's only Fast Track that will tap into kazaa. Have you tried GiFTCurs? It's a front end to GiFT which i've found to be very trouble free!
  14. I don't think the Nvidia drivers are installed either or else you'll be getting the splash screen. Install the drivers, then do startx. Once in a gui, open a console and as root type: This will put you back into init 5. As for konqueror crashing, I believe this is a known issue which is corrected by getting the maintanance release of kde which is v 3.2.3.
  15. As root type: This will bring up your video card config. In here, you can choose the appropriate driver that corresponds with your video card, then you would choose your monitor. If it's not listed, chose a generic one that corresponds to the one you have. I'm not sure which driver you are meant to choose for your card. Maybe a standard vga driver or vesa.
  16. I can't see the error when you try to rpm. Can you copy and past the message when you try to rpm? The console in the screenshot is not big enough.
  17. Or you can install the gkrellm weather plugin.
  18. Did you add cooker? If so, do you already have version .30? If not sure type from a console: This will tell you the version. If you didn't add cooker, then follow the faq's regarding urpmi. I'm pretty sure the latest version is available from cooker or plf which is another ftp source. If not, google gdesklets, go to the site and install from there.
  19. There is also a weather plugin for gkrellm. The forcast wold just appear in your monitors.

    XFCE

I am using it now and have been using it full time for a month now. I was previously using Flux and it's a very good DE/WM. Looks awsome with gdesklets running. As for the icons, I have mine on the gdesklets startup bar. No need for all those messy icons on the desktop. It's also highly configurable. It supports Gnome panel even. Xfce
  21. papaschtroumpf: You are correct that kde doesn't support transparent gdesklets; however, it's possible with gkrellm. You have to install the glass themes or the krellm theme.
  22. Have you tried using another player such as xmms? I don't use KsCD, but maybe the problem is only specific to that player. Also what dvd player are you using? There are some things you may have to get in order to view dvd's.
  23. You can compile it from source. Download the tar from Flux's website and compile. You can also add some ftp sources to urpmi. You can then instal Flux using urpmi, but I don't believe it is the latest one.
  24. Gaim I feel is more userfriendly then kopete.
  25. I just go to file, then new window and it opens another one without asking me to create another profile.
