  1. Hello, I have the LOKI port of tribes 2. The single player works fine but when I select online play, I login everthing seems fine but then the game freezes on ¨creating warrior¨... Anyone know what my problem is? Thanks in advance Hanez
  2. Hi, Im trying to compile a .c file I got from a cedega forum (here) I am trying to get World of Warcraft working (almost there!) Anyways I need to compile this .c file but it requires two .h files... xlib.h and cursorfont.h These seem like standard XFree86-devel files but I cant find them through urpmi or through google. I tried installing and XFree86-devel rpm but I got a conflict error. Anyone know what I should do? When I try to install XFree86-devel I need XFree86-libs Some package requested cannot be installed: XFree86-devel-4.3-8.2mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied XFree86-libs[== 4.3-8.2mdk]) When I try to install XFree86-libs I get a conflict Installation failed: file /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 from install of XFree86-libs-4.3-8.2mdk conflicts with file from package libxfree86 I cant uninstall libxfree86 because my entire system depends on it (Id have to uninstall KDE and thats no fun....) So what do I do? BTW MERRY CHRISTMAS AND/OR HAPPY HOLIDAYS Thanks in advance!

    Cool Free FPS Game

Hey all, I just bought quake 2 and doom 3 and got them to work on MDK. Problem is quake is too old for me now and doom 3 is ok 1 player but sucks multiplayer (IMHO) Then I saw in a Linux magazine a free open source game called Cube. Well I gave it a try and MAN is it good. It has a single player mode and a multiplayer mode that is just WICKED, much faster then quake 2 and much better looking. Anyways it is the easiest thing in the world to install (and even has its own gamespy like server finder) I was totally suprised to see such an awesome game done open source. Anyways give it a try You can download it at http://cube.sourceforge.net/ PS it works on windblows too!
  4. Hi I get some wacky errors everytime I try to run bittorrent or bittornado. I have installed and uninstalled them a few times, I have installed and uninstalled Python and wxpython through urpmi as well. I keep get wxpython errors... *Using BitTornado* [root@localhost hanes]# btdownloadgui.py MAME.ROMS.torrent wxPython is either not installed or has not been installed properly. Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/btdownloadgui.py", line 23, in ? sys.exit(1) NameError: name 'sys' is not defined *Using Bittorrent* Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/btdownloadgui.py", line 13, in ? from wxPython.wx import * File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/wxPython/__init__.py", line 10, in ? import _wx File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/wxPython/_wx.py", line 3, in ? from _core import * File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/wxPython/_core.py", line 15, in ? import wx._core File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/wx/__init__.py", line 42, in ? from wx._core import * File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/wx/_core.py", line 4, in ? import _core_ ImportError: /usr/lib/wxPython/lib/libwx_gtk2u_core-2.5.so.2: undefined symbol: gdk_display_get_default_cursor_size Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance
  5. Yeah, all I needed to do was run /usr/games/sdlquake2 instead of /usr/games/quake2 Mandrake rules..... THanks all
  6. Ok well, I got it running without sound... all I did was add a few other packages from the PLF in URPMI and it ran! Now i need sound :( I take it this error is stopping me from getting sound? ------- sound initialization ------- /dev/dsp: Input/output error SNDDMA_Init: Could not mmap /dev/dsp. Anyone know the solution?
  7. Im having problems installing quake 2. I checked older threads in this forum but they don't seem to address my problem. I use urpmi to get package: Name: quake2 Version: 3.21_r0.15-2plf I then copy the entire baseq2 directory to /usr/share/games/quake2/baseq2 (including the pak files) and I execute /usr/games/quake2.bin and I get this error ------- sound initialization ------- /dev/dsp: Input/output error SNDDMA_Init: Could not mmap /dev/dsp. ------- Loading ref_softx.so ------- LoadLibrary("ref_softx.so") failed: No such file or directory Refresh failed recursive shutdown Error: Couldn't fall back to software refresh Please help! I have a new computer with a 256 meg NVIDIA card and I just wanna play a couple games on what is otherwise an amazing OS. Any help would be HUGELY appreciated Gino
  8. Hello I have an ATI 9200 with MDK10.0. I tried installing the driver from the ATI sight but it has a compatibility problem with another package installed... Am I supposed to install this driver or does mandrkake come with it already installed (and maybe thats why im getting the compatability problem?) The ATI site says to execute "fglrxconfig" but I dont have that binary... Im trying to enable TV out and I am totally confused with getting this driver to work... any ideas? DO i have to recompile my kernel or something to get this working? the ATI docs are confusing as hell... Thank you
  9. I tried using TVCard option in Control Center but, it seems for only TV in... Has anyone got this working with a radeon card? I really have no idea how to continue. hanez
  10. Hello I have an ATI Radeon 9200 with TV out. I havent installed any drivers for it (just whatever mandrake has installed) and I want to use my TV out feature. I tried installing the driver from the ATI site but I get this error Installation failed: file /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 from install of fglrx-4.3.0-3.14.6 conflicts with file from package libxfree86-4.3-30mdk Now all I really want is TV out, do I need to install this driver? Or is there an easier way? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.. Hanez My computer Athlon (2.6ish) Ati 9200 128 meg Soundblaster Live
  11. Ive heard a lot about my problems with SATA so I'll explain them a lil more in detail. I installed 10.1 on my SATA drive it was horribly uselessly slow...SLOW....SLOW like really SLOW. But I had no problems on bootup. So then I installed 10.1 on my IDE drive (the SATA was still atached) it was very fast... but guess what? During bootup Id have psyco weird problems This problem was weird. When it would look for SWAP space it would complain about not finding my swap space on sda WHEN I NEVER INSTALLED ANY SWAP ON SDA) No kidding, I install on HDA with absolutely nothing on SDA (not even a partition mounted) and it would give some kind of error about not being able to find the swap space on sda. I would still get this error even when I removed the SATA drive. It would boot and be fast but I would get serious crashes... I installed 10.1 3 times on my IDE and this happened every time... it was clearly a problem with the SATA drive. I installed 10.1 one more time with the SATA drive uninstalled and... everthing worked FINE. But I need that drive... so I installed 10.0 with the SATA drive installed and everything works fine (but 10.0 still reads that drive slower then it reads the IDE drive, brutally slower but mp3s dont need to be read that fast.) This was 10.1CE by the way, the very stupid part of me wants to give 10.1Official a try but after being stuck in OS limbo for a month Im happy with my MDK10 again. Guess Ill wait to;; 10.2 comes out :) Anyways thanks for all the advice, I do find it weird that I was the only one that had major problems with this. Hanes This is an Athlon (2.6 ghz or somewhere like that) with a seagate HD on ATA and a Maxtor on IDE.
  12. I have ext3 on both drives, I have all the mods you mentioned installed.
  13. Welll, I dont know exactly what is going on. I installed 10.1 and it was SLOWER than 10.0. ALOT SLOWER. So I start going crazy right? I think hey maybe MDK is just slow, maybe I should try gentoo and compile everything from scratch, maybe userfriendly is just for windows... Well instead I install MDK10.1 on an IDE drive I had lying around (on the same box). Well its a speedemon now... 2-3 times faster then MDK (same version) on my sata drive was, maybe more.... Dont you think this means it MUST be a driver issue? I have 256 RAM on a 2.7 Athlon, Radeon 9200 btw.
  14. [root@localhost hanes]# hdparm -Tt /dev/hda /dev/hda: Timing buffer-cache reads: 1120 MB in 2.00 seconds = 559.81 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 146 MB in 3.02 seconds = 48.30 MB/sec Does that just mean I have to live with speeds 2-3 times slower then xp on the same box? Darn it, I love MDK but it runs very slow on a 2.7 Athlon, oddly enough I was using a server at work (700MHz running Red Hat 9) and they were about the same speed.
  15. Hmmm ok, so you think thats pretty much the final word unless I want to downgrade to 2.4 kernel?
