  1. 2008 detected the ethernet card in my inspiron 1521 right off the bat. not sure why it's not working for you. wireless was a little tuffer but it will work. sorrry i can't be of more help.
  2. i'm getting the same error. i have windows installed on a raid 1 array. would i need to change the added lines to sda and sdb or should i use the /mnt entry (mapper/nvidia......) which is the entry in grub? thanks for your help.
  3. you can also run drakx11 as root to set up the vesa driver or to download the current nvidia one.
  4. i get the same thing in 2008. i can log out and then shut down from there but not from within gnome.
  5. i think there are some problems with the default slideshow screen saver. i just picked another one.
  6. i have xp installed on 2x wd 250mg drives in raid 0. i have mandriva installed to 40 gig ide drive. just set the ide drive as first boot device and install grub to it.
  7. the old libraries were still present. i uninstalled them but but the problem remains.
  8. i'm having the same issue since updating to 2.0.0.11.
  9. i had a similar problem with firefox. i had installed the fonts from my windows drive. only some sites would have jagged fonts. i could fix them by choosing not to let the website use their own fonts but i didn't want that. i usually used kde. i booted into gnome just to mess around with it and found that the websites rendered fine. switched back to kde and the fonts for all sites were fine. not sure why this happened.
  10. you'll need at least a /, swap, /home partion to install linux. make sure you install to you're slave drive. mandriva will usually recognize your windows partion and label it as such but check the size of the drives in the partion creation part of the install so you don't wipe out windows. at the end of installation, you'll have a chance to say where you want the boot loader installed.
  11. i like to install the linux boot loader on to the drive that linux is on and then change the boot settings in the bios to boot from the linux drive first. that way you're not touching the windows drive. not sure about booting linux without grub or lilo. i think you can edit the boot.ini under windows root directory and add linux but not sure how.
  12. is there a setting for "launch feedback" or something like that? i thought that controlled the swirly cursor.
  13. in the lower left corner of the log in screen, there's a menu for session type. picke drak3d. log in (supply root password). pick "no 3d effects" and log back out. x should restart then pick your normal desktop manager from the session type menu and log in as yourself. hope this helps.
  14. if you can get to the log in screen, you can run drak3d and should be able to set the desktop back to no 3d efffects.
  15. looks really nice. might have to give that a test run. thanks.
  16. i get the same error trying to install 2006 on nforce 4 ultra based motherboard with onboard nic. any ideas?
  17. are you able to use the onboard nic at all, or do you have to disable it and run an add in card? funny that during the install i can get on the net and download updates but get the same error message during normal bootup.
  18. been dual botting win2k and mandrake for last couple of years. every install of lilo has been to mbr.
  19. try holding down the alt key and click and drag the center of the window with the mouse. you should be able to move it around enough to find the buttons.
  20. i haven't been able to get the nvidia drivers installed in any of the 9.1 betas. i'm using the source files but they error out when i try rpm -- rebuild.... time to hit the bugzilla site.
