  1. Hmmm....mayhaps I should roll back to an earlier version. Or just wait until the next comes out and see if the new one corrects the problem. Thanks a metric ton, SoulSe.
  2. *nodnod* I'll try reinstalling the drivers as you suggest. Perhaps something just didn't compile correctly. But I *know* there must be a solution to this....somewhere. It was working fine before....and the only thing that has changed, is the kernel, nvidia driver, and NWN versions.
  3. Well...I know for a fact that it will work well on this system because it was working perefectly...as smooth as glass...before I upgraded the kernel some months ago. The nvidia module is loaded and looks to be working okay....except for the slow framerate and screwed up resolution....and, apperantly, the hardware acceleration. I've attached the xorg.conf for reference. As for the glxinfo |grep direct direct rendering: Yes X11]# cat xorg.conf # File generated by XFdrake. # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the XF86Config man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "Files" # Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together) # By default, Mandrake 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of # the X server to render fonts. 4. Okay, I've looked around in MCC and I don't see anything to activate hardware acceleration. Where would I find this elusive 'On' switch?
  5. Ahaaaa! I'm getting about 120-140fps. I guess that means HW Accel isn't on. Now let's see....if I were a HW Acceleration 'On' switch....where would I be?
  6. Well, hopefully, this'll be the last problem to deal with. I have an open thread on the Bioware Linux forum as well, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask here also. Neverwinter Nights is finally functioning again, but I'm only getting about 8-9 fps. To me, that seems rather low for an Athlon 2500+ with 512mb of RAM, GeForce4 MX onboard chipset, and running at 1024x768 with the game quality set at merely 'Good'. I'm running 2.6.8.1-12mdk kernel and the 1.0-6629 Nvidia drivers downloaded from their site. There are no errors listed in the xorg log. Howlever, cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status returns this: Status: Disabled Is it because the video chipset is onboard? Is the fact that AGP is disabled the reason the my system keeps coming up in 1400x1050 with that stupid panning desktop? If I can just get the last of this stuff fixed, I'll stop messing with the box and just spend my days and nights chopping goblins and those oh-so-beautiful gnolls. While NWN is the primary focus of my desire to get the resolution fixed and fps up to something respectible, if this thread is in the wrong forum, please feel free to relocate it and accept my apologies for the mispost.
  7. Okay...yes, I'm a complete and total tool. BUT...in my defense, while the GLX problem seems to be solved....( glxgears is working ) my resolution problem has resurfaced. The desktop is larger than the screen (y'know, mouse to the edge and it pans over) and seems bent on *NOT* doing 1600x1200x24bpp like I want. Does 3D acceleration cut down on the available res and color depth options? So, let's mark the GLX errors as SOLVED....and I'll start a new thread about this resolution problem. Thanks for all your help on this. Sorry I didn't notice the "nv" thing earlier.
  8. /var/log/Xorg.0.log shows this error near the end: (EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (NVIDIA X driver not found) As for adding the.....ohhh.waaaaaiiiit. I think I found the problem. Section "Device" Identifier "device1" VendorName "Nvidia Corporation" BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce4 (generic)" Driver "nv" Option "DPMS" Option "IgnoreEDID" "1" I've changed "nv" to "nvidia" so many times...I may well have thought I'd done it again. Let me try switching that and see if this works. (stupidstupidstupidstupidstupid).
  9. Here is the end of the installer_log...if it helps to clarify the situation. -> Uninstalling NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver for Linux-x86 (1.0-5336): WARNING: Unable to restore symbolic link /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.2 (File exists). -> done. -> Uninstallation of existing driver: NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver for Linux-x86 (1.0-5336) is complete. -> Installing 'NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver for Linux-x86' (1.0-6629): executing: './usr/src/nv/makedevices.sh'... executing: '/sbin/ldconfig'... executing: '/sbin/depmod -aq'... -> done. -> Driver file installation is complete. -> Running post-install sanity check: -> done. -> Post-install sanity check passed. -> Shared memory test passed. -> Running runtime sanity check: -> done. -> Runtime sanity check passed. -> Installation of the NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver for Linux-x86 (version: 1.0-6629) is now complete. Please update your XF86Config or xorg.conf file as appropriate; see the file /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README for details.
  10. Well...the kernel issue is taken care of. I've got the nvidia driver installed....but I think I've screwed something up somewhere. Neither xorg.conf or XF86Config show the load "glx" line anymore. Where it was, there is now a: Load "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so" And I remember seeing a warning message during the nvidia compilation that said something about a 1.2 version of the glx file existing. As such, I'm still getting the errors listed before. glxinfo |grep direct returns this error. [trendane@Carradesh X11]$ glxinfo |grep direct Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". And, I don't know if this means anything but, the 'nv driver would do 1600x1200x24 beautifully....the 'nvidia' driver does 1600x1200x24...but I'm seeing little flickering/tearing lines across the screen. I'll make the sacrifice of moving down to 12x10 if I abolutely have to *shudder*....I just want NWN working again.
  11. Okay. Problem solved....at least, the kernel part of it. As it happens, MCC listed 2.6.8.1-12mdk in the software packages....so I updated to that. Now I go back to the Games forum to continue trying to get Neverwinter Nights working. Thanks, everybody!!
  12. $ uname -r 2.6.3-4mdk I looked on pbone....but none of the packages coming up in the search. A friend of mine is trying to help me with this now. I'll let you know the results.
  13. Well...I was following the instructions on the site you listed the link for, and about 2-3 minutes into the make dep && make bzImage && make modules && make modules_install It errored out with this message" In file included from /usr/src/linux-2.4.21/include/linux/unistd.h:9, from init/main.c:17: /usr/src/linux-2.4.21/include/asm/unistd.h:375: warning: conflicting types for built-in function '_exit' make: *** [init/main.o] Error 1
  14. That's the one I was trying to compile...well, 2.6.7 something, I think. But urmpi pulled down 2.6.3-13 for some reason. I'll try pulling it down from a different site and see if it gets a more recent kernel. The sole reason I'm trying to do this is because, as I stated in the Games forum, I want to get Neverwinter Nights working again. The Nvidia drivers won't compile because it says the kernel-source is wrong. So, if I can get one kernel compiled, installed, and working with the Nvidia drivers...NWN should work again just fine.
  15. *chuckle* That's one thing I hate about my system....it neveer works the way I want it to and all the directions I find on howl to fix it.....never work.
