  1. Don't worrie, it's probably in the public domain now. You'll not be charged for using it. Just check there is the CE mark in it. Else it does not had been certified 98/37/CE and it's a potentially dangerous machine.
  2. talk about EEC ? Well on the principle it has some good. On software patent, EEC is clearly the right level to decide about that. Do you imagine for example England saying no to software patent and the rest of Europe saying yes ? impossible. There is some issue where Europe is the only organization we have, potentially strong enough to take decisions. Anyway, I don't appreciate that a member, Ireland, who was given the temporary responsibility to lead us, is starting to play his own game in a way different with what was decided before
  3. Again !!! Didn't we already told them NOT to patent software ? Didn't they said ok ? Why do I have the impression that as soon as we turn back they try to f**k us ? hey we have something else to do than checking them, demonstrate, sign petitions ! don't they fear that next time we'll them ?
  4. for liquid, the price in liter must be indicated. For solids (like gum), the price in kilogram must be indicated ... well for gum I don't know :D
  5. Humm, I don't think it's there in 10.0
  6. your probably right. In fact I was more worried with Free DOS as its the OS used when the machine is milling. But seems ok and DOS is used almost only to launch the proram. By the way, the UC is a Shuttle Barebone XPC SB51G with a FB51 motherboard, the one I expected it was delivered with a Mandrake Discovery. Absolutly no problem with 10.0 CE (well I tested only the 10/100 Lan, the AC97 audio, USB 2.0, IEEE 1394 were all detected but I didn't tested them)
  7. From memory I'm on M$ Win ... (at work :o ) boot on the first Mandrake CD, at prompte type "rescue" (without the quotes) and there you'll see you can restore the Win bootloader. I understand you fear, you thought you've lost your M$ Win partition but no :D Once you're back on M$ Win, don't give up, like AussieJohn said have a look in ARTEE's site and retry. If you stay concentrate there is no risk for your M$ Win partition.
  8. I took 10.0 because it boots faster. I know the CE is not for production but you know the customer just boot on it and won't even log. It's just for the network. As long as Samba works, that's all we want.

  10. Too late to reply but in case it can interest somebody: service dm stop can do it too
  11. In my little company our server is Mandrake 9.0 since .. I don't remember, well since ML9.0 is out. It does ICS, firewall, DHCP server, NT domain name controller. Else all the clients are Win 98 SE :( 8 boxs (how can we need so many PCs we are only 3 workers ! ) I tried Open Office without much success. well that was 6 month ago or so, our pcs are old and no time to set it up. But more important, we put a Mandrake 9.2 Discovery in a machine we sold in march and now we installed Mandrake 10 CE in the machine we are about to deliver. The machine we build run on DOS (Extended 32 bits). Before we installed Win98. Why Win98 or Linux if the machine is DOS ?? for only one reason: Network. I know there is some network solution on DOS (MS Client) but it eats all the conventional memory and the DOS Extender and the program need some. We recently bought the Watt32 manual, looks nice but not so simple to implement, it need some work. So when the machine is running it's running pure DOS, when it is stopped and the customer want to transfer some file in it, he had to type Win before, when he was in Win98, now, he reboot on Linux. To go back to milling mode, the customer had to do a Start->Restart on MS DOS mode before, now he reboot on DOS. Not very practical I admit. By the way, at this occasion we switched to Free DOS. It Works perfectly even with our software that is quite special (high speed real time) One funny thing is that when we installed ML10, LILO considered Free DOS as Windows  Of course we changed the label in lilo.
  12. Hi, first do you installed the MCC's server wizard ? run RpmDrake and type "wizard" as a keyword. Install, close and relauch MCC and see, there must be a DNS server wizard there. In case you already installed the server wizards but the DNS server wizard don't fit your need and want it to set it manually, it would probably help to know that the DNS server daemon is called bind. Can't help more but bind is the keyword. Good luck
  13. I have an old Win software called Image-In (*not* Imaging) that can handle this kind of format (black and white pcx). pm me if you want I e-mail you it.
  14. Do you have a multi-processor PC ? I no, something probably went wrong with your install: linux-smp is needed only with multiprocessing (or multithreading I'm not sure) I don't think the nVidia driver works with linux-smp. Anyway, here how to change the startup: Edit /etc/lilo.conf as root. Look at the file, it's understandable. From memory (I'm currently on Windows) there is: - "label" that define the string that is going to be displayed on lilo's screen, - "image" that define the kernel to run - "default" that says witch kernel to boot by default. After you change /etc/lilo.conf , you MUST run lilo as root. Just type "lilo"

    Unable to update

Hi, For once proxad.net seems to work correctly ..... :P To change the update mirror so that you can update in MCC->update, you can do as chris z said except that first you delete the bad "update_source", then click "add" as chris z said then instead of selecting "ftp" you select "security source". That will create a new "update_source". PS: thinking of it I wonder if "security source" is not specific to ML10.0 I'm running . The question was about 9.2 isn't it ? well I post this, it can help,
  16. At last it's starting to be advertised: OSNews see also there D Language I've never found the time to try it myself but the specs looks very good. I know the C++ compiler for 10 years (was Zortech, then Symantec C++ then DM C++) and I know the programmer, Walter Bright, is very good, clever..and friendly. So the D specs and compiler must be good too. Unfortunately it's still mainly a Windows thing for now. But I know a move to Linux is planned. If there are some that would like to contribute here it would be faster spam: the C++ compiler is there http://www.digitalmars.com/ : the fastest compiler to compile fast programs
  17. It doesn't work with Mozilla Firefox ?? did you try with the normal Mozilla ? Anyway, let Mozilla or Konq identify itself as IE only when no choice, but after, you should not forget to switch back to the normal identification because there are statistics that are made using this identification and if the statistics say that 99.99% of the browsers are IE even if you don't use it, things are going to be even worse. P.S: I've tried janus.com with the Mozilla 1.3.1 for Windows. It displays the warning message but if I continue, it seems it works properly. ok I've only tried few things, it's probable that you use some more advanced features that I've didn't tried.
  18. Thanks for the report. I'll keep a bookmark on it :)
  19. It seems looks you are connected. Don't really know but why an IP address like 10.0.0.10 ? Why not a standard class C address like 192.168.x.x ? Also did you tried to set your eth0 as DHCP ? you may try, I've already seen it solved obscure problems.
  20. may be with the rpm command ? see man rpm
  21. AAAAAAAAAARG ! my 30 days Club subscription I got with the last 9.2 dicovery my company bought last month went out yesterday and I didn't downloaded 10.0 OE !! Too bad for me .... but too bad for you also as I'll not be able to let my torrent open so you'll not enjoy my 2Mb/512Kb connection :P Btw biitorrent always worked well for me: around 150KB.
  22. Some more details and corrections (i did the previous post from memory) Note that the problem is solved. By default, when I installed ML10.0CE it installed k3b-dvd. But I don't have dvd.. and it didn't work. I have to uninstall k3b-dvd, cdrecord and cdrdao manually and reinstall the normal k3b and all the related stuff. The symptoms were: (I'm translating the messages so it may be not exactly the same but you should see what I mean] - When I tried to burn an audio project from mp3 files, with "burn on the fly" checked, i got the message "error while unencoding audio tracks" - if I uncheck "burn on the fly". I had the messages: . creating the image file, . all the tracks had been unencoded successfully, . using cdrecord2.1a27-dvd-Copyright .... . burning with the disk to disk mode [????] at 0 x speed [???] . the program cdrecord did not terminate properly .... Somebody else got that problem or is it just me ?
  23. Ok, my problem was not the same as yours. When I installed ML10.0CE (upgrade and fresh install as well on an other partition), it installed k3b, or more exatly cdrdao with all the dvd writer things. But I don't have a dvd writer and it didn't work. I uninstalled/reinstalled cdrdao, k3b, and some other related stuff, had some trouble with dependencies I could turn around and now it work. Somebody else had the trouble ? it's when you try to burn an audio project of mp3 files.
  24. At work we bought a Shuttle cube box SS51G in september 2003, a SB51G in february 2004 and an other one last friday (april 2004). They were supposed to include Mandrake Discovery with the boxes. (see link) But still none so far :( Do I missed something ?
  25. The standard 3d rendering api for Linux is OpenGL (also used by some M$ Win software) Direct X emulation can be done on Linux with WineX.
