  1. judging from replies... apparently not :)
  2. ok vmware tools in linux is tricky. if memory serves i think it creates a cd-rom drive in /mnt. about the network wizard, i'd say nat is the way to go, do you have a firewall running on your machine that might prevent your network from going up? Sorry if I'm not much help but i'm used to doing this the other way around :)
  3. i'm still curiosu as to what the output of rpm -q kernel-source is
  4. illogic-al

    Red Orchestra

yeah, i tried it and after finally getting it installed (their installer sucks) i didn't like it.
  5. what kernel-source did you install and what kernel are you running. to find out the running kernel type uname -r
  6. for anyone using console it is now a separate rpm in 9.2s kde. to install it type urpmi konsole
  7. to get a pure linux console, when you start up and get to the boot screen press [Esc] then type linux 3 But first 1. download the nvidia script 2. download the kernel source from a mirror 3. paste the directions from HW-01: How to install the nVidia driver into a text file 4. Boot into linux and at the boot screen press [Esc] then type linux 3 5. log in as root 6. mount windows partition 7. navigate to script and copy it to linux partition cp /path/to/nvidia_script.sh ./ 8. navigate to saved instructins and copy them cp /path/to/install.txt ./ 9. navigate to kernel source rpm and copy it cp /path/to/kernel-source.rpm ./ 10. then urpmi ke[Tab] pressing the tab button will complete the filename for you than press enter and allow urpmi to install the kernel source rpm. 11. just follow the directions from the NVidia faq
  8. you really should just use the script from nvidia it's easy to install but first you need to download the kernel source from a mirror. http://www.MandrakeUsers.org/index.php?showtopic=4461 if you use 9.1 rpms they may work but you'll probably have problems in the long run
  9. A lot of people are having problems with disappearing menus and the fix is quite simple. If in the course of updating or installing packages your menus go haywire just do update-menus This will restore your menus to their working state. You can then use menudrake to set up the recovered menus however you like. Update Menus has other options too. To find them out just type update-menus -h in a terminal/console. Don't worry, it's a pretty short (and useful) list

  11. I cant let illogic-al run around being a little KDE-zealot :P Bluefish rules!!! I find it good, Quanta is too big - bloated, well it seems that way for me anyway. iphitus I won't even dignify that with a response :) Actually i just did. Anyway, yes Bluefish does rule but for managing large sites quanta is still better. It's a matter of convenience which i prefer over the greater functionality quanta has. And screem, it doesn't even compare. The only thing that works in it's favor is that highlighting looks good. It couldn't even open up my index.html file.
  12. i've tried screem but like quanta better. I'd probably try emacs if I didn't hear so much about how it is shortcut oriented.
  13. well i use quanta for my site which makes it a lot easier to handle. It saves all files in a site into a project which loads at start and i have a handy window with only things i want in there. that means if i want to leave all images out and only have html i can do that. I keeps it organized plus it has tag completion and tag highlighting (which is really what the kate kpart does but...). I really liked bluefish when i tried it, but it didn't haven't the projects thing going and i couldn't preview my html file right in there so i stuck with quanta
  14. To copy audio CDs you have to create a "New Audio CD Project" IT has been figured out and legally too :D but if you must remove the rpm urpme k3b is all that you need to do as root. or use rpmdrake-remove and search for k3b and remove it that way. BTW if you want to do direct CD to CD copies most burners require that you have scsi emulation turned on for both the burner and the CD/DVD-rom
  15. Gnubie said: and then aRTee said: and then anon said: and that's all they said about that. Reference: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=9437
  16. that's not possible john. anyone who knows better, prove me wrong. I dare ya
  17. i got starterbar to work after using the cooker version of the file. It also turns out (if i remember correctly) that there was a dependency which wasn't installed by urpmi because of bad packages. In short the cooker version works (without breaking your system). but that was a while ago...
