  1. This could be the common virus making root attempts. Regardless setup a APF & BFD. That way it'll ban the IP address.
  2. Hello, I just did an install of 10.1 beta1 on my mac. Everything so far has been running ok(except for gaim crashing). Anyway, I have CUPS installed and stuff, I configured my printer. But for some odd reason, nothing prints. The printer is turned on & hooked up to my USB port #2. I got it to worked on 9.1, but printerdrake did most of the work. On this one, there is no printerdrake. I think the reason is due to i don't have the location of the printer typed in, which I don't know. Is there anyway to find out? Regards
  3. Well, most people would tell you to go with a Stable version. Beta's are for people who want to beta test, or are comfortable fixing things themselves.
  4. Thanks, but I got nano installed, but that isn't my problem, I need to get PHP5 running. I installed libxml2 version 2.6.13 via rpm, as urpmi was out of date. But now i think i need libxml2-devel as well but can't seem to instll it.
  5. Alright, can't seem to get anythong to work right. It looks like i need to install libxml2-devel as well. But when I get the cooker RPM, and try to install it, it says error: failed dependencies: devel(libm) is needed by libxml2-devel-2.6.13-1mdk devel(libz) is needed by libxml2-devel-2.6.13-1mdk Where do I find these packages?
  6. Me doing nothing. Using Gnome(which I always use).
  7. what ever directory Apache is in, look for your httpd.conf, then look for something about server port. And change it to something your Firewall will allow. Then restart Apache.
  8. There are a few ways to start/stop/restart a MySQL server. /etc/init.d/mysql restart
  9. That would be the logical approach. DOn't download anything but stable versions if you are new to Linux. Of course ppc's don't seem to have that boot problem, as it works different.

    Long bootup

That might cut down on the startup, but not the best option. As static IP's cost $$, depending on your ISP.
  11. that depends on how old your install is. Eventually, like years of use, it's said that linux would bennifit from a defrag. BUT who can keep anything that long, other than a server, maybe. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I haven't been managing Linux servers long, but I have never come across a server needing to be deferagment. For a matter of fact, most people don't keep servers as long as computers.
  12. Alright, I'll try that. For the most part I have a hang on everything now. Edit: this is what I get libxml2-devel:/usr/bin/xml2-config libxml2-devel:/usr/share/man/man1/xml2-config.1.bz2 libxml2-devel:/usr/bin/xml2-config libxml2-devel:/usr/share/man/man1/xml2-config.1.bz2 libxml2-devel:/usr/bin/xml2-config libxml2-devel:/usr/share/man/man1/xml2-config.1.bz2
  13. If you have the RPM of PHP installed, it's very easy tp upgrade. To check: rpm -q php If it returns back the package. then... Like I said, look at the "Cooker RPM Packages" http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/cookerdevel.php3 Say you have a i586 system: rpm -U ftp://ftp.phys.ttu.edu/pub/mandrakelinux/devel/cooker/i586/media/main/php432- devel-4.3.8-3mdk.i586.rpm
  14. I found a later version of libxml2 as it's no where near bleeding edge. urpmi always seems to install an outdated version. For example i used it with gaim, and got a version that doesn't connect to the new server for yahoo. Maybe it's the server I'm set to? I found libxml2 -2.6.13 and got it installed, but when compiling php5, it says it can't find xml2-config, which is just a script to define certain libraries. It may be due to the fact that i don't have libxml2-devel installed. I doubt it's installed. I'm not going to worry about it since the cooker rpm's so far have everything I need.
  15. because it's a .src.rpmyou build an rpm with that with rpmbuild --rebuild nano-1.2.4-1.src.rpm <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, I'll try that when I get home. I always used the binary, and never knew you had a different command for src. :D EDIT: I get command not found. I installed Apache manually. I can't get PHP5 to install due to the fact that I need libxml(2)- 2.5.10. And Mandrake came with an older version, so I need to find a way to upgrade. I never looked at the cooker rpm packages, but I'll take your advice. Thanks again. EDIT: ok the cooker rpm's have the right version of libxml2 that i need, but I can find a way to upgrade from the version I have, as it keeps saying it will break dependencies.
