Hi Artificial Intelligence, The stable version 10 will not install on my system, I have tried that one first. The kernel that comes with MDK 10 does not like any of my system, I needed 2.6.3-9MDK to install. Kind Regards, Andrew

Hi, devries; Will try that tonight when I get home from work. Artificial Intelligence; Yes the driver is 6111, but I will try an older driver if "devries" sugestion does not work. One small problem is when I go and update any of my packages., ECT all I ever get is error messages saying Corrupt sig files. Is this due to being a Beta? Kind Regards, Andrew

I have followed your instructions and get the following error: "ERROR: No NVIDIA driver is currently installed; the '--kernel-module-only' option can only be used to install the NVIDIA kernel module on top of an existing driver installation". Hi devries, About the NIC, i have installed the NFORCS drivers and I have edited the /etc/modules.conf with "alias eth0 nvnet & options nvnet optimization=1 Still have to go to computer settings and select cable connection and manual install "nvnet" and auto all the rest of the questions and restart network and all works. While I was waiting for your responce I managed to install the new kernel (2.3.6-16mdk) and reinstall the NIC drivers and still the same as above. using the FAQ's on how to install the NVIDIA drivers, still get the same errors, but I am goin to try you way. hi again mate, I ran command: uname -a and got the following: Linux Andrew 2.6.3-9mdk #1 Mon Apr 19 11:10:02 CEST 2004 x86_64 unknown unknown GNU/Linux I don't have a clue on how to install/upgrade the kernel. After running: rpm -qa | grep -i kernel Results: kernel-2.6.3.9mdk-1-2mdk kernel-source-2.6.3-16mdk I am so lost :unsure: I have just downloaded "kernel-2.6.3.16mdk-1-1mdk.amd64.rpm". but do not have a clue what to do with it (I am like a cow with a gun, ). Hi, How do you configure SSH, as I can get someone who know linux better to login and instal the NVIDIA driver. What ports should I forward on my router to allow connection? Hi devries, The file called "nvidia-installer.log" found in "/var/log/" had a lock on it not allowing me to open it. I had to do, once in the "/var/log/" dir run the following: "chmod +777 nvidia-installer.log" which give all access to this file, is this O.K. Hi devries, That is me using Mozilla now to post and I love this tabbed browsing :D That the NIC driver installed and conf'ed. Still having trouble with graphics drivers, but not giving up. problems are: during the install i am told "kernel config to load rivafb as a loaded kenel module" after that i get "ERROR unable to build nvidia kernel module". cheers mate, Andrew

quick note: I have downloaded the drivers from nVidias site for my graphics card called "Linux AMD64" or should it be "Linux IA64" and drivers "Linux AMD64" for my motherboard. As soon as I get my NIC working I could find out things for my self in the FAQ's and along the road learn something. :P It is a pain shutting down MDK and booting into windows each time I have a problem. I will be changing my siggy as soon as I get MDK running as it should. Kind Regards, Andrew

Me again, I have managed to sort out the problem by booting from the CD1 and updating MDK. The problem was I did not read the instruction enough and said NO to the GUI to start when MDK starts. I have printed the instruction on how to Install nVidia drivers for FaQ's and followed them. but with problems. I typed "uromi binutils" and was told that already installed. I typed "urpmi kernel-source" and it asked for CD3. Put in CD3 and nothing happened, it just sat there. timed out and asked for CD1 and then CD2 telling me I may wish to update my kernel. (could have a corrupt CD3, downloading another cpoy and try again) I typed "chmod +x (nvidia file name) then ./ (nvidia file name) and the install begins. I was told that it could not find kernel and ended. any idea what to do now. Kind regards Andrew

Hi devries, Well I have now managed to install MDK 10.0 AMD60 rc1 to my IDE drive. LILO loaded with about 5 options, onebeing windows (work great). I use the <F11> @ POST to choose boot drive. :D Some problems: I can only get into the text mode only, as far as I know I did load KDE and Gnome. How do I get them to load from the command line. (either) I have the nVidia drivers for my graphics card and motherboard. I burned them to CD/DVD but how to I get access to them from the command line and run them (I have the commands from the site to run them) (I would rather use the GUI). Kind Regards, Andrew P.S. Hi, The AMD64 MDK 10.0 rc1 boots with nop problems what so ever. It askes where to install so I pick my ide drive. Then it want my scsi driver from floppy. what driver are they? Kind Regards, Andrew

Cheers devries, I have put in the 40GB IDE drive and partitioned it in 2, 1 2GB Linux Swap and the other 38GB for the rest (Linux Ext 3). I do not want MDK to use any of the RAID disks (just to ignore it all together), just the 40GB IDE. I am not keen to disconnect the SATA drive to install MDK, all I want is to find away to install to IDE 0 and only use that drive. I did read from the MSI forum about someone using MDK 10 (2.6.8) and worked great with no real probs. I am just hoping that the MDK 10.1 AMD 64bit with 2.6.8xx Kernel will allow the install to the IDE 0 (40GB PATA drive) and just ignore the SATA drive in a RAID 0 configuration. Below is the problems I am having (without the IDE HDD installed, but still the same when the IDE HDD installed): I would only intall MDK onto the RAID drive after I feel comfertable with it, but until I can have a test drive and get a feel for it I will be keeping Windows on RAID drives. I would appreciate any more ideas to get MDK installed to the IDE drive. Kind Regrads, Andrew
