Have you tried to uninstall the nvidia kernel? and then reinstall them. check gcc to see if you accidentally uninstall it. reinstall it, too.

I am runing MD2007 with kernel version 2.6.18.8-1mdv on a dual amd mp 1.2 ghz with 1gb of ram. After I upgraded to this kernel, I could not just plug in a usb flash drive and have access to it as a regular user. I have to call up the control center and run "look at and configure the hardware" to see the drive. I have to configure the drive to be mounted as root with a mount point and then unmount the drive and disable the mount point. After this, I can mount the drive as a reguluar user. I tried to start kbounce from the terminal. However this time it crashed and restarted X without leaving any messages.

at the boot screen, hit F1(I believe) and then type the followng to see what happens. linux noprobe I think that is the comand. J.T.

Try to disable the sata controler in BIOS to see if the system boot from CD-ROM without hanging. Just a hunch.

I have Mandriva 2007 running on my dual AMD 1200 MP with 1GB of RAM, ATI 7500 AIW and SBLive value. KBounce game crashes my computer at various stages of the game. Sometimes it crashes at the middle of the game and sometimes right at game over. j.t.

Found the culprit. It was the NoScript extension. Just uninstall it and problem solved. Thanks.

Using pmount is a lot easier than mount since pmount does not need to be root. I had the same situtation but on a ubuntu box.

I am currently running Mandriva 2007. When reading Yahoo! Mail using Firefox 1.5.0.8 and recently updated 1.5.0.9, I cannot see the text of the messages unless I click on the printable view link to open a different window in the printer friendly view. I also tried Firefox 2 and had the same problem. j.t.

I've tried the gui out with my heart content, but nothing works. So I have to fire up vi and edit the darn file. Other than that everything works fine. J.T.

I am currently running Mandriva 2006 on a WD Passport 40 GB (usb 2.0) with no fuss at all. Mandriva 2006 is one of the easiest distro to put on a ext hard drive. I had tried Ubuntu 5.10 on the drive with some tweaking. I just have to configure the BIOS to boot from usb on any computer that I plug my hard drive in. J.T.

Do you have Winblow$ on the laptop? I configure my wireless card with the same chipset by using ndiswrapper to install the winblow$ driver. Then I have to go to /etc/ndiswrapper directory and edit a config file which I don't remember it off hand. You have to put the card's MAC address and WEP and Network id into the file. J.T.

What version of Mandriva did you install? I installed Mandriva 2006 on a Gateway laptop with the same wireless card. Mandriva detected the card and installed the appropriate driver and I have had no problem connecting at all. I have 2006 power pack though. J.T.

FastTRAK TX2000 Raid card is not a hardware raid. It runs through software and CPU. Promise only has the close source driver for redhat 9 and some other older distros. You can use it as a ata133 controller to set up any distro, but not its raid functionality. Unless you want to run FreeBSD, IDE controller functionality is the only thing you get when using linux in general and mandriva in particular. J.T. P.S. I have a FastTrak TX2000 myself.

Don't use a browser to download large iso images. For your FTP apps, I wonder if they have the resume functionality. If they do, you just resume the download. J.T.

Intel has the pro 2200 series (methink) that is linux supported natively. This card is on centrino. I tried both Mandriva2006 and Ubuntu Breezy, and both recogized the wireless card J.T.

cybrjackle, Both my pendrive and firewire drive are FAT32 since I have a WinXP laptop and want to share data between the two boxes. I have no problem using the two drives with my XP laptop. J.T. Update: I am able to manually mount the pendrive using pmount /dev/sda1 since it is recognized as such but no firewire drive recognized.

Thanx for the suggestions. I'll try them out and let you all know. Both my pendrive and LaCie drive are FAT32. I check dmesg. Vfat, NTFS, and other filesystem tried but not recognized or some message of the same sort. J.T.
