  1. Ok, that's a bit annoying, but what can you do. Never the less Mandriva saved me one week of installing graphics, wifi and sound. I hope it's not often like that cause all like the Linux out there Mandriva is a bad idea without accessible repositories.

    Merry Christmas

Welcome urak, and lots of fun with MDV.

Repositories out of order is not that many times an issue.

Good to hear your exotic setup works right out of the box.

    Fine days ahead.

  2. Just a bump.

    Ideas, anyone ???.

    Cheers. John.

Not so much a solution John, but the first thing that came up to me: a broken video-card yes.

Having any Windows around for testing?

And ehhhhh, Merry Christmas tot you too John.

    Greets,

  3. Have both on one single SATA-disk.

First installed Windows7 and afterwards Mandriva 2009.1

    No problem at all, until................................

Until i had a package of updates for Windows 7, after rebooting GRUB was gone.

That is, GRUB went like a flash through my screen, and the system rebooted, and rebooted, and.......

Had to use the Mandriva installation DVD to repair GRUB.

Everything just fine now, but didn't try to boot Windows 7 again, for being afraid of new damage to GRUB.

  4.

This was a pain because it said the packages had no key and kept asking do you want to install anyway. Hit yes. You have to baby sit it. I didn't know how to fix this so I hung in there till done.

Had this same issue when updating the laptop.

But someone attended me using the following command±

    urpmi --auto-update --no-verify-rpm

And that the trick when updating my desktop later on. All went smooth.

  5. Thank you.

I will try easy urpmi tonight.

Oh another thing. I tried to update to latest Nvidia driver for GeForce 9600M yesterday.

I downloaded a Nividia driver for Linux-32bit and tried to type sh <Nvidia-driver-name> in the Konsole.

But it asked me to do it in text mode. How do I exit X11? and go into text mode?

Would advise installing Nvidia-drivers through Mandriva Linux Control Center (MCC).

  6. Hi guys,

quick question. I'm running 2009.0 with KDE 4.2.1. In the updates a lot of the KDE files are labeled as 4.2.4. Does this mean it will update my KDE to 4.2.4?

As far as i can remember, i didn't see those in my 2009.1-updates.

But i am in the office now, so i have to check out later.

Maybe you are using some KDE-repositories?

  7. Not the first time i bring up this topic into view.

But still haven't found a proper solution.

When i start Konsole i see in System Activity three processes starting.

    1. bash

    2. konsole

    3. konsole

The second konsole-process is a child-process of the first one.

    Konsole-window is opened with warning:

Warning: Could not start program '/bin/bash' with arguments '/bin/bash'.

When i kill one of the two konsole-processes (the child-process) in System Activity, i get the prompt and can work in Konsole.

Starting a console-session through MCC (drakconsole) is no problem.

  8. Of course you people who read manuals will know that I'd erased the BIOS of my computer.

Can believe a whole lot of stories, but this never ever has nearly occurred to me.

Cannot even imagine how you reached this point of disasterness.

Anyway, the best advice in repartitioning is, to make a good backup in advance.

And as you most probably will have done, nothing so much is wrong.

  9. Canon printers are currently supported (most of them, anyway) by the Gutenprint drivers.

The only issue is that the Gutenprint drivers are capped at 600 dpi, so they aren't good enough for photo printing. Nevertheless, if you are sure about your printer's abilities, you can touch a source file and build a ppd for your Canon with just the right printer characteristics.

These of course are far from simple, even for experienced Linux users. The easy way is called Turboprint, but this isn't a free solution (or even a cheap one).

Never managed, after so many months, getting my LBP5000 to work.

Yes, maybe a few pages being print, but then another uphold.

Since i put in the USB-cable into my new HP Lasercolortjet CP1515n, it was installed, and worked out-of-the-box.
