  1. i am totally new to linux so bare with me.. i just installed Mandrake 10.0 and when i want to shut down the shutting down bar goes almost all the way to the end a just stays there.... is that what it is supposed to do???? and also, i know when you want to take a usb key out on windows you have to "safely remove hardware". do you have to do that in linux too??? and if so, where is the icon [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  2. oops sorry... i guess the problem was my keyboard.. it was a OEM compaq USB keyboard and i replaced it with a OEM dell ps/2 keyboard
  3. i am trying to install mandrake 10.0 i put the CD in and start to install it. after it "detects my USB devices" and "loads the files onto memory" it asks me the choose my language but from there on it doesn't do anything, no matter what keys i press... i think that either the keyboard stops working or my computer freezes, but i am not sure.... anyone know how to solve the problem..
  4. sorry.... i didn't open kwrite until today and it did what i wanted.. thanks
  5. i recently switched over the linux and i am a web designer who used M$'s Notepad to make all my websites and openoffice doesn't do what notepad did. Finally moving from M$ hell to Mandrake 10.0 100% but need to some applications before I do so… I haven’t used Mandrake yet, but is there a simple program that works similar the M$’s “Paint”, and also is there a free image editor anywhere to use with pictures that come from my digital camera and other images?? Thanks for the help, sorry if it was a noobish question but I am new to linux

  9. I know this is probley the dumbest question ever asked and its probly been asked be4, but i got a little confused reading other peoples posts about the subject and just wanted to be sure i am doing it right so i don't mess up my computer. when making a partition for Mandrake 10.0 OS, what do i make the file system type?? FAT FAT32 NTFS Linux Ext2 Linux Ext3 Linux Swap p.s. if you haven't noticed i am a total noob to linux, trying to get away from M$ hell
  10. hey thanks! worked great, thanks alot for the help
  11. i downloaded MandrakeMove on a computer with winXP and i have winXp on my own computer for right now. when i started up my computer i tryed to open it with winXP and this is what it says Windoes cannot open this file: File: MandrakeMove-i586.iso To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs on your computer. first of all i do not have internet on the computer i am trying to get it to work on but i doubt that will work and i am guessing i am doing something wrong... sorry but i am totally new to linux.... anyone know what to do??? p.s. on the computer i downloaded it from (i downloaded it straight to the cd) it says it was a Easy CD creation file or something like that. I have easy CD creator if that is what i need but for some reason, i serious doubt it.
