  1. It keeps trying to reinstall cups and the cups I have in there exits with status 127 every time it's called. None of the packages work. MDE doesn't have the libraries up there, so I disabled it, but it still doesn't work. URPMI freezes while trying to install. :( I would go back to the original one, but I'm not sure how, since when I try to uninstall and reinstall cups, the new install errors out the same way. If I try to reinstall the library it complains about (foomatic-db) it says I have to uninstall my whole kde install, which works just fine. Anyone have any pointers on how to get this working?
  2. I have been using ethernet, but when I tried to use ndiswrapper, things got weird. I got a belkin wireless-N card. It works with linux ndiswrapper just fine. I got it working once, but as soon as I disconnected my eth0, ndiswrapper freaked out. I can't get wlan0 to go up again and even ifconfig, iwconfig, and drakconnect freeze... No window or anything. It just freezes. I tried going into modprobe.conf and entering: install ndiswrapper /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ndiswrapper && { loadndisdriver 168c 0023 /etc/ndiswrapper/net5416/ar5416.sys /etc/ndiswrapper/net5416/net5416.inf; } I also wanted eth0 and eth1 to shut off and eth3 (network) to stay on. Does anyone know what the problem is? The card works just fine in linux from what I saw, even after unpluggin the eth3 cord I had wlan0 until I reboot. wlan0 seems to be linked to null instead of the ndiswrapper driver. Strange. :( No matter what I do, every time I reboot it uses null instead of ndiswrapper...
  3. There's no 64-bit flash yet? That's weird. Thanks for the info! Thank you as well. That's good to know. :D
  4. How do I do that? I can't use the install cd because they use virtual in their xorg configuration. It needs modes instead of virtual in the screen size subsection. Instead, I have to use urpmi, but I don't know how...
  5. I can get it to find my network. I know the driver is working. This is linsys' new MIMO card for pcs. The driver appears to work a bit. I mean, it brings the interface up, I'm able to scan the networks and find my network. I'm even able to connect, but after I connect the link quality is 0/100. It sends data back and forth to keep the signal alive but nothing else. Anyone else experimenting with this card?
  6. I updated my hardware from 32 to 64 bit and now mandriva won't download or install a 64 bit kernel. It says they are all already installed. What gives?
  7. I updated to mythweb 0.19 and it just...doesn't work. I like the idea of making everything into one mythweb.php page, but the script ends without doing anything. Does anyone know how to get this working? I'm using the SoS rpm. Everything else there is great. The only thing that frustrates me is that one little thing. Also, does anyone know how to get the interface to detect the mythburn scripts or what that's about? I looked in the xml files to add my own stuff into mythtv and saw a section for mythburn in there, so I installed it, but it isn't detected. Is there something special I need to do? Any help would be appreciated!
  8. It doesn't load as a usb storage drive regretfully. I did more looking. Unless you know how to get mtp working in linux (there's a driver but I can't ever make it compile), it won't work. It doesn't use the normal transfer methods. Instead, it's windows "Plays For Sure"..... another way for them to try and lock everyone else out. Awesome player, but just not compatible yet it seems...until an open source mtp is released. :(
  9. the output of fdisk -l is: dee]# fdisk -l Disk /dev/hda: 163.9 GB, 163928604672 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19929 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hda1 * 1 2016 16193488+ 83 Linux /dev/hda2 2017 19929 143886172+ 5 Extended /dev/hda5 2017 2219 1630566 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/hda6 2220 19929 142255543+ 83 Linux Disk /dev/hdb: 203.9 GB, 203928109056 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24792 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hdb1 * 1 24791 199133676 7 HPFS/NTFS Disk /dev/sda: 203.9 GB, 203927060480 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24792 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 24600 197599468+ b W95 FAT32 Disk /dev/sdc: 300.0 GB, 300090728448 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 36483 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdc1 1 36483 293049666 c W95 FAT32 (LBA) That doesn't show the device anywhere that I see. It would be an sdsomething but it just doesn't show up. In hard drake it shows up under scanner and Unknown/Others. Does that help?
  10. It doesn't seem to work.. I tried that at first with the ifpgui program. It finds the device and has firmware that is compatible, but it ignores it or errors out. Is there another way to make it work or are there errors from it? Thanks for helping me! I'm kind-of new to this usb stuff.
  11. I was trying to either get the iRiver u10 to work or find an iAudio 6 in america. It seems like no one sells the iAudio 6 outside fo the uk and asian countries, so I got the u10. An associate at the store and someone on the phone at iRiver both told me it would work in linux. I got it and...it doesn't. I emailed them and they gave me a very rude "you are wrong." response. Needless to say I am not happy with them now. The u10 has got to be the most beautiful audio player I've seen and the fact that it plays video so well (wow!) is just wonderful. I'd really like to keep from rebooting every single time I want to add music to it. Can anyone tell me if you know of a way to do that or an audio player with an interface as seamless and nice as the u10? Can anyone point me to something that lets you reincode video files for the simple profile divx encoding? When I plug it in, the u10 is recognized and it seems to be trying to work. I just can't get it to mount or to transfer music files. Very strange. It shows up in harddrake, but has no module. Thanks for any help in advance!
  12. Too late. :( He gave up on linux and reformatted. Thanks for the help you were able to give me, though! That did make a big difference!
  13. I have it as realtime priority by default and that doesn't do much. It improved a bit when I set it to as large as possible for the cache size, but it still skips. The players that screw up are anything that uses arts and also anything xine based. The mplayer based ones run fairly well, though. I can't figure it out. I tried that then I went in and looked at his modules. Here's modprobe.conf: I haven't ever used the remove command in a modprobe.conf file before so I didn't know if that was right. Anyone have a better idea of what the problem is?
  14. I was installing mandriva for a friend on his pc. Everything works wonderfully except the sound. It is always skipping when we run all players except mplayer. Mplayer makes the video go less than smoothly. He has an amd athlon 64-bit machine if that matters. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
  15. That was the first thing I tried. It never works. It keeps on saying: [root vlc-0.8.1]# /etc/init.d/lircd restart Stopping Linux Infrared Remote Control daemon: [ OK ] Starting Linux Infrared Remote Control daemon: [ OK ] [root vlc-0.8.1]# mode2 mode2: error opening /dev/lirc mode2: No such file or directory The device is there. The /dev/lirc is there, but not. I don't know how to do this if it doesn't even see the device....I mean, it is seen in lsmod and the hardware shows up in dmesg when I do it manually....but nothing happens.
  16. I have tried this several times with different drivers. Here's the general problem: I have the ATI Remote Wonder that comes with the ATI HD-TV Wonder and I'm trying to use it first. I want to make the remote work with my first mythtv card before I do anything else. It's a usb remote so it isn't dependant on the HD-TV Wonder to function. I found lots of documentation on it on the net but nothing works. There's also documentation on getting the ati remote to work, but none of it works for me. I'm using mandriva 06. I have tried compiling lirc with the X10 I & II and also with just X10. X10 doesn't even load but that seems to be what I most likely have. The X10 1 & 2 loads but there is no /dev/lirc, only /dev/lircd= and that doesn't have anything to input from.... What am I doing wrong? Do I need to have some special settings for this to work? I didn't understand why it won't work with the rpm either. It's been in lirc for a while... Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm not very experienced with lirc. lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 61 lirc_atiusb: USB remote driver for LIRC v0.5 lirc_atiusb: Paul Miller <pmiller9@users.sourceforge.net> usbcore: registered new driver lirc_atiusb lirc-0.8.0]# mode2 mode2: error opening /dev/lirc mode2: No such device lirc-0.8.0]# I have the hauppauge 250 card installed as well, but I don't have the remote around for that anymore. I'd rather just use the ati remote wonder anyway since it's an RF remote. I can get lirc_dev and lirc_atiusb to load and it sees them and creates the devices but they aren't pointing to anything useable. Is there a way to just force it to use only the device I want? lsmod gives me this: usbcore 108156 10 lirc_atiusb,ati_remote,usb_storage,usbkbd,xpad,usbmouse,usbhid,ehci_hcd,ohci_hcd I eventually want to run the HD-TV Wonder and the pvr 250 at the same time since I have heard they work ok together. lsusb gives me nothing. I hope that's enough information to give you guys more to work from than I have.
  17. I have my computer in 1600x1200 mode. The screen supports this (I use it in windows as well) and so does xorg, but....when I change kernels, my screen resolution for the monitor is locked at something like 1280x1024 or something and it just zooms into the 1600x1200 screen and lets me slide around with my mouse. When I ctrl - to shrink it back, it just zooms in as far as it can go (tells me that is the farthest it will zoom). Does anyone know what is causing this or how to fix it? I tried xfdrake and that doesn't help. In windows it works fine and if I reinstall with one of the kernels on the disc (that doesn't support ndiswrapper) it is fine, but if I do anything, even change to another one from the install cds, it zooms. ~Dee [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  18. I just upgraded to 2006 and it's very strage. The mouse cursor is a violet triangle normally (the way I set it) and then when I move my mouse over a firefox window, gaim window, root window, and many other windows, it turns into the default black cursor....is there a way to set the cursor across the board to one theme so it doesn't change so much. It's a little odd to see the cursor change so much. The theme I have is very nice....I'd kind-of like to actually see it sometime. Haha [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  19. Ah! Ok, that makes much more sense. Thanks! I'll try installing the older smp kernel!
  20. I'm using the ones from the web site with the latest ndiswrapper. I'll try going back to 1.0 instead of 1.4. 1.0 worked fine for me. Time to reboot to see if the card is supported and the module conflicts. Thanks for the help so far. Hope it works! ~Dee
  21. It still does the same thing. It seems to be a problem with my wireless card. On LE2005 it works fine, but something is driving it crazy on this one. It's a linksys wmp54gs. I have all the available drivers for it loaded, but it never finds any of them. I can't figure it out. Is there a special location I should try placing the newly compiled .ko file instead of modules/{kernelvers}/misc? Should I try 3rd party and ndiswrapper (make folder if not there)? I am not thinking that will make any difference. I ran depmon -ae after compiling it and that all looks fine, but it just isn't liking my drivers... ~Dee
  22. I installed ndiswrapper on mandriva 2006 like I always have in previous versions, but when I get to the modprobe part, it just makes my cpu's go to 100% and kills the system. I have an smp system so I have to compile my own ndiswrapper. Any idea what the cause could be? It just sits there...working forever. I haven't left it working for more than 5 minutes because it's never taken longer than 1 minute before. Is there a bug or something that I haven't heard about? ~Dee [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  23. here is a howto from this site: http://www.mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=4548 When doing the ls command, putting a slash in front of the folder ( ls /pookie) takes you to the root folder. If you want to see a folder within the current one, just do something like ls pookie/ The same goes for cd and ln. Also, always put spaces between your options. In your ln command, you typed ln -s/pathname. The lack of a space there made ln think that -s/pathname was the option you were trying to enable. If you ever want to make sure you're typing it right, type the first few letters of whatever it is in the path you want and hit the tab key. That will autocomplete folder names for you if they are present in the path you type (ie. typing ls /home/lau and then hitting tab will complete that so it then says ls /home/laurie). Hitting tab twice will list all files in that folder. Hope that helps! It's my first time giving info on this thing, so I'm sorry if I missed something. :) ~D
  24. OH! I feel so stupid now. thanks! ~D
  25. When I run kaffeine, try to change my clock from 24 hour to 12 hour format, and randomly other various things (thought most others seem to fix themselves, kaffeine and the clock are the only ones that don't), it pops up an error saying it's unable to initialize the player for kaffeine and just shows the playlist. It says it can't find the .desktop file. I have no idea where to look or I'd do it myself. I tried running it from the command line: $ kaffeine and it still says the same thing. I have no clue what's going wrong. I thought it might be kde 3.3, so I updated to 3.4 and the problem is still there (though there are several nice enhancements in 3.4). Can anyone help me? ~Dee
