  1. I have similar problem. Seems to have happened since I stuck in the CD-Writer. Everything seems ok but cannot detect the CDs at all. Any Ideas as to what needs to be check or rearranged?
  2. The documentation available on the net for DHCPd is, as you say, mediocre at best. Even on the development website - but you can buy the book. http://www.isc.org/index.pl?/sw/dhcp/

    DHCP

Does anyone here know how to set up a DHCPd server to listen to 2 networks and give out 2 different address ranges?
  4. The card is set as a DHCP client and it's not connected to a DHCP server?
  5. Second post in the thread has instructions for cli setup.
  6. Just run the ICS function in MDK10.1 - seems to work or you can use the pinned network help thread. http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=15646
  7. DNS servers not being passed on to the Win2K machine I suspect. Tell me, is there any reason you're using a cascading LAN and not a switch?
  8. I've just put a third NIC in my Linux box (MDK 10.1 Official) without any issues whatsoever - except that for some reason it decided to name the third NIC eth1 instead of eth2 as expected. I suspect this has something to do with eth0/1 using the same driver module. As for setting up the ICS - I followed Streeters manual setup the same as I did when I had 10.0 community installe but this time it didn't work. So I used the wizards - and this time they worked. Except for Samba - which did work in 10.0
  9. Yep and have your windows PCs ethernet connection set to get their IP address, Default gateway and DNS server automatically.
  10. I'm guessing that your eth0 is setup to receive the IP information via DHCP. With that in mind what you need to do is set it up with a static ip address and other related information (gateway, DNS etc) and then setup a DHCP server in Linux to listen to eth0 and have your Windows machines set to use DHCP for their IP addresses Here's a really basic howto http://linux.cudeso.be/linuxdoc/dhcp.php Asking questions is not even remotely stupid - not asking them is.
  11. Your DNS server addresses on each individual PC in the lab are incorrectly setup. You need to go into the properties of each one and define the DNS address of the servers you wish to use.
  12. Do you have the Windows box on auto-config for the ethernet? If you do then your DNS info isn't propagating to the Windows box correctly. Although I'm wondering why you have the cable modem connected to a switch and then to the Linux box. Can you not connect it directly to the computer? My system is similar - ADSL router to Linux Box to 8 port switch
  13. If they were routers rather than switches then you could possibly set up some sort of bridging. But as is - I suspect you'll have to buy that extra NIC.
  14. It does this with every mirror on the list. The only change that occurs is the first error number - most of the time it's a 9 or 10 but occasionally I've seen a 23.
  15. OK - I've installed MDK 10.0 and have it mostly working. Now that I have an ADSL connection going I want to download the updates but the update tool in the system configuration only ever gets an error 9 or 0 when trying to update. Has anyone else had this problem and how would I go about fixiing it? Cheers:) Draco
  16. MDK 10 has the speedtouch USB drivers needed but only supports PPPoA. If your local DSL provider also uses PPPoA then it's not a problem. Will be if your DSL provider uses PPPoE.
  17. OK - found the issue. It was the default install of Konqueror. Changed this to Mozilla and it's all go. Thanx
  18. In my box which is running Mdk 10.0 I have 2 NICs. the first one (eth0) is working sweet. The second one I'm having some difficulty with. I've just bought an ADSL modem so that I can migrate to a BB internet connection which I want to share through the Linux box. I set the NIC up as a DHCP/BOOTP unit so that it gets its IP from the modem. This seems to work as an ifconfig shows as having an IP in the correct range. Then I open the browser to go to the modems homepage - all good so far. When I try to log on to the modem I lose all connection with the NIC. Now, IIRC, the NIC (an old CNet 200pro) is using Tulip as the driver. Any suggestions? Any other info required?
  19. I just used a dynamic IP address through sitelutions.com which has free DNS hosting and good rates for domain registration. Haven't found anyone to buy an IP address range from yet.
  20. Setup is a MDK 10.0 box with 2 NICs and a winmodem - all three working as a standalone machine. When I engage dhcpd everything continues to work and clients (Windows) can ping each other and the server. The problem occurs when I try to share the internet connection (dial up ATM) and engage the iptables. What happens is that the dialup connection starts on boot even though it's been told not to and I can't log in to the box. I get the login pronpt but it won't accept any username/password. I've stopped trying to start the DNS server at the same time but still have the same issue. Any hints as to what may be wrong? I'm on a clean install ATM with just the modem working.
  21. I had the same issue with both of my NIC cards - one the same as yours and an older CNet pro200. It disapeared when I plugged them into a live connection (PC on one and a switch on the other). Just a hint from another newbie.
  22. Whats the chipset in the HSP? (ok - just found out there not Conexant) I've just dowloaded and used some drivers from (these are still good B) ) http://www.linuxant.com/ Very easy to install - just told the Mandrake rpm installer where to find the RPM and it was installed automatically including the dependancies. Just remember that when you are setting up the connction to go down the manual path in drakconnect. They do ask for money though - I paid as I considered it worthwhile to have a reliable set of drivers although they cost more than the modem Some modems have the support already in the package. They also have some drivers for the Accessrunner USB modems but they're unofficial. http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/links.php As for finding good newbie info for Linux on the internet
  23. Now he tells me not to use the wizards :) Clean install so it's not really an issue - prob do it again after reading the info.
