  1. So your not going to make us an easy-installable icon theme for gnome? I'm just really lazy.
  2. They are for windows, i think(hope) he's going to be porting them for gnome.
  3. Woah, those ASK icons rock. bvc are you going to make an icon theme/pack for those? :)
  4. I'd like to see a good black theme, using clearlooks. I know there is a few nice clearlooks ones, but i would like to see a REALLY nice one.
  5. Yeah, i left that out the first time i guess that was the problem. I was jumping from distro to distro and the only one i hadn't really tried was arch, due to the keyboard problem. I used a different keyboard for the installation, once i upgraded everything i plugged in the usb keyboard and it works fine now. I really like what i see though, arch could be the distro i've been looking for. Thumbs up for arch. :)
  6. Ok i know what the problem is, but i don't know how to fix it. Ok here is the deal, when i start my computer dhcpcd isn't started, so i launch a few gnome apps and they work! As soon as i start dhcpcd they die and wont start again, so i stop dhcpcd and they start again. Not sure how to fix it though. EDIT: Fixed it, had to edit the network settings in /etc/rc.conf i followed the wiki and bam all the problems are now gone! thanks for your help.
  7. Yep, everything is upto date. This is quite frustrating, i also noticed actual gnome apps like gedit, nautilus will not work, stuff like gaim will work but die shortly after. I really like arch so far, so i'd like to get this problem fixed, maybe i'll post in the arch forums. Also firefox seems to crash too, when i start it from a xterm i get a message firefox-bin:8597): Gdk-WARNING **: gdk_property_get(): length value has wrapped in calculation (did you pass G_MAXLONG) Not sure if that's related.
  8. Just installed arch using another keyboard, but i'm running into a little bit of trouble. For some reason all gtk2 apps are crashing, so i can't use gnome, gaim or anything, i need to post this on icewm. So does anyone have any idea why gtk2 apps are crashing? Oh and it's not just a odd time, they completely crash after about 5 secs. gtk1 apps are working fine though.
  9. Edit /etc/modprobe.d/sound remove snd-es1371 add es1371 reboot. I did this on an older version of suse on my old computer, im not sure if it will still be the same, but give it a go. ;)
  10. Switched to XFCE, gnome was annoying me because i couldn't edit the menu's. Yes i know there is apps out there that do it, but they are not very good! (crash happy) Will there ever be a game as good as ff6 again? I doubt it.
  11. In other words, most of the time all you need to do is. ./configure make && make install Always read the README and INSTALL files that come with them, to get a better idea.
  12. It's not a new distro, it's just a custom debian install. ;)
  13. I just finished installing gentoo(again) a couple of hours ago. I was going to make a topic about this but i'll just ask you SoulSe. I emerged zsnes and i added my user to the "games" group like it tells you to do, but when i run zsnes is says "no such file or directory" however when i run it as root it works fine. Any ideas?
  14. All 64 bit distro's i've tried don't seem any faster on my computer (amd64 3200) so i'm still using 32bit distro's mainly for the packages and because i notice no speed gain.
  15. Well if it can't work with a common keyboard, i'm hardly going to be supporting it am i?
  16. I thought i would try arch again on my new pc, since it had problems with the ethernet card on the old one, i've tried about 20 distro's and freebsd they all worked with my keyboard but arch failed completely after i pushed enter to boot, the keyboard was no longer useable. This basicly sums it up, if it seems that it can't work with a common keyboard it doesn't deserve much respect from me. Oh and from a arch linux review, this sums up how i feel too.
  17. Arch haha, anyone who uses that as their main os are either crazy or stupid. For a start, the hardware detection is among the worst i've ever seen "Press enter to boot" *presses enter* it boots but can longer continue the install as usb is buggered up. I don't see the point in arch, just looks like a waste of time to be honest. I need something that works. Anyways, my debian install is gone! I went back to FC4 for an easy time, i need a distro that holds my hand all the way. Plus i love yum and FC4 language support is really something else. Err and this is off topic.
  18. I would agree with most of your post except hardware detection, at one point mandriva did have really good hardware detection but it's not as good anymore, infact if i take the top ten distros from distrowatch and install them on my system they all detect and work with my nforce4 chipset, but mandriva doesn't. ;)
  19. Not sure what that means, but aslong as you follow the guide step-by-step it's pretty straight forward, i was always put off by what people said about gentoo being so painful to install, i was glad to find out they were just silly rumours. They probably just mean building from source, like you said or they could be talking about the admin tools like runlevel editing like "rc-update add hotplug defaults". I only had gentoo installed for about 2 weeks, but i learned a lot in the short amount of time i used it. Goodluck. :P
  20. It's better to just do the base install, which takes about 2 hours. Then install one destop enviroment, gnome-lite didn't take very long maybe about an hour but then again i have a pretty decent pc. The hardest bit for me out of the whole installation is that stupid GRUB, i manage to screw it up almost everytime i've installed gentoo. Packages, well there is an insane amount of good packages, you see with debian there is a lot of packages but debian doesn't include all those multimedia apps, where gentoo does. You don't need to add another repository or anything, from the moment your system is installed you can emerge stuff like mplayer and w32 codecs. I just couldn't be bothered tinkering with stuff every day, gentoo is damn nice, i only really liked it because of the great packages you can get. Not to put you off, but it does seem almost everytime you upgrade the system something will break. If you have a lot of time and patience, it might be a good distro for you.
  21. Well, even if it doesn't show up correctly in IE it's not exactly a bad thing? Most people intrested in trying linux, will probably be using firefox anyway. Oh and it looks good, maybe i'll show it to my sister and she can follow your guide. :D
  22. Nothing beats the real thing. :P
