  1. hmm... i have read many negative comments and reviews about arch. but then, i also read lots of negative comments about mandriva.

Who cares what others think? You shouldn't be bashing a distro unless you've at least tried it yourself. 90% of the world use windows, that doesn't mean it's good. Just because someone writes a negative review doesn't mean it's a bad distro. The reason arch gets bad reviews is because it's install is a bit hard for people new or inexperienced with computers/Linux, but the installer won't change because the distro has a different audience.

Arch is actually the easiest distro to use, easy to manage daemons in the rc file, easy to make packages, easy to install packages, most uptodate and stable distro i've tried and pacman is always a pleasure to use. I've tried countless distros looking for one that was just right, everyone had something i disliked, but when I tried arch it was perfect in every single way for me.

  2. cool

you know, after reading the kde theme howto and seeing how much more powerful it can be over gnome, I've thought for a month to install kde again. It's supposedly the reason so many developers left gnome after 2.0 and went to kde, but.... ...after more than 1.5 years since using kde, all I see at kde-look as far as good themes go is the same things that were there 1.5 years ago. What is up with that? From reading the howto I can see that making a kde theme is a nightmare but come on. There no eyecabdy over there....I don't need the silly wallpapers....there has been more icons submitted...but where's the beef? :wall: I mean...everyone still uses plastic and bagara or whatever....nothing new since then? Ouch! That's very sad.

I tried KDE again about a month ago and trust me don't go back! The only half decent looking theme is plastik and yes that's sad. Plus you aint leet if you use KDE :P.

  3. Openbox is by far the best, the only good feature fluxbox has is all that transparency. Fluxbox doesn't work with the freedesktop standards either, when openbox does. Not to mention openbox's menu looks much better blah blah, openbox + pypanel is a great combo. I tried fluxbox yesterday and it's just a mess. Try them both out, but give openbox a chance because it really deserves to be more noticed.

  4. Wow it takes two mins to change a theme if you don't like the default. That's hardly a reason to say it's bad. eric.proctor don't be put off, I used gnome on mandriva for months and it performed great and i didn't notice anything different either, only thing is they have a little star for the menu not a big deal and easily changable. Try it for yourself, mandriva is nice distro and has some great hardware detection.
