  1. No. Just download the firefox tar.bz2 and click on it to unzip with Ark. Move the resulting folder to the desired location (I use /opt) and run the executable file firefox. There is no building necessary.
  2. To be safe, I would uninstall the rpm version before installing the current version from mozilla.org. I am also running Mandriva 2008.1. I am currently running Firefox 3.5.6 with no trouble.
  3. add MTU=1492 to the file: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 I doubt this will rectify your problem, but there is no harm in trying......
  4. running ifconfig as root in a terminal will give the MTU value. Mine is at 1500.
  5. Well my networking knowledge is limited. I checked my modem and I do not have NAT enabled either. I did not see any Quality of Service or IGMP multicast items in my GUI. Can you verify that your GUI indicates a DNS server has been specified? Is there an option to "restore defaults" This might get you going.
  6. My Westell modem (AT&T DSL) has a web-based gui for configuration of the modem (including firewall settings). Does your modem have something similar?
  7. Well your modem should have an active firewall as well correct? Turning off the Mandriva firewall temporarily should be OK. If you type dmesg from a terminal as root, you will get a recent list of warnings, notices, errors, etc. that the OS is reporting.
  8. Such things are often the result of a bad burn. Try burning a new DVD at a slower speed or with a different brand disk.
  9. Are you using the Mandriva firewall? Try turning this off temporarily. Also, have a look in dmesg.
  10. OK, I am running 2008.1 as well with a DSL ethernet connection. Not that this will be of any help! :P Are there any errors or issues mentioned in dmesg? My /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 looks like this. How does this compare with yours? DEVICE=eth0 BOOTPROTO=dhcp NETMASK=255.255.255.0 ONBOOT=yes METRIC=10
  11. Maybe you need to disable IPv6. Edit the file /etc/modprobe.conf and add the following line: alias net-pf-10 off
  12. If you are using KDE, place scripts here for execution during startup: ~/.kde/Autostart/
  13. I just tried your browser link and it worked OK for me.
  14. Welcome to the MUB B) You mention that you can get to a root terminal? What happens if you type startx
  15. I am happy you got things working. Disabling 3D hardware acceleration is OK as long as you are not gaming in any way.
  16. Glad you had some success. Let us know if troubles arise.
  17. This is probably a good idea. Those cards are cheap. I think I would still try to clear the CMOS. Nothing to lose.....
  18. Clearing the CMOS puts everything at its default value. It is more of a let's make sure thing. It will not give you any additional problems.
  19. Clear the CMOS on the new motherboard? You can do this by removing the battery for a few minutes and then placing it back.
