  1. In the Device Notifier there's no message saying the CD is in the CD player, but you can still play it by opening up another audio player (I use xine), and from the program open up the CD and play it.
  2. Gone? Can you explain what happened? By adding a source, you do not loose anything. By updating, you do not loose anything.
  3. You need to update your repositories. Click on the icon "configure your computer". Type in the root password. Click on "configure media sources for install and update". In the top left corner, click on "File". Click on "Add a custom media". On "type of media", choose "FTP server". In media name, add whatever name you want, such as KDE4.2.1. In URL, add a media url, such as this for a 586 system, or this for an x86_64 system. Then click the box "Tag this medium as an update medium". Click "OK", and you can then update.
  4. In terminal, both as root and normal user, run the command: Then try "repairing" your installation according to the script, at this link written by Steve Scrimpshire. It's easy to use.
  5. For sure! I did once (KDE4? - I don't remember), and boy did it make a mess. It took off almost everything!
  6. I'm up and running w/KDE 4.2.1. After upgrading, I had a blank screen because of a missing file. I logged out (crtl + alt + del), logged into another desktop, and downloaded mandriva-kde-translation-2009.1-0.1mdv2009.0.noarch.rpm (the missing file). After that, MCC updated more files. Now I'm up and running. It took only a few minutes.
  7. If you right click on the screen, do you have an option to show the status bar?
  8. scarecrow, you stated: theYinYet, you stated: I looked at this site gstream applications, and noticed I only had 1 application installed that uses gstreamer (amarok). I never use it, so I removed it. I have installed these: Can I/should I delete all but the libs? Or being the computer whiz that I am, is it better to leave them? To "keep" to the topic, because of these posts, I also was able to get the raisport.it site working. The antenna5 will not work, but since tux99 said I can't expect it to work!
  9. I don't know if there is a conflict between the packages installed. You might try removing screen-4.0.3-5mdv2009.0 and see if that helps. You can always put it back. When you try to remove it, if it asks to remove other packages, say no. Beyond this, I don't know what to do.
  10. In terminal as non-root, please give the result of this command. This will show what files you have installed as screensavers. There might be a conflict somewhere. This is what I have installed (KDE 4.2).
  11. Do you use gnome or KDE?
  12. Mmm, I don't think that's a good idea. That's my password!
  13. Adobe 8.1.3. I could open my .pdf file without any problems, as I knew the password. I just wanted to save it w/o a password. I couldn't find the option anywhere with the pdf programs to do it. Every time I saved it, it automatically saved it with the password.
  14. :woot_jump: Thank you, thank you. I did it. I did it w/o the cat command. I had to change the output file name, too. I don't know if it would have worked with the cat command, as I didn't even try it. Thank you! Kieth
  15.  OK, I keep trying, but I keep getting different errors. The password I know :) , but I don't understand where to put the passwords (I looked at pdftk --help, too!). Let's say that my file name is FRUSTRATED, and the password is STUPID, how would I use the command pdftk protected.pdf input_pw sekritPassword cat output unprotected.pdf I presume the file name would be put here: pdftk FRUSTRATED.pdf input_pw sekritPassword cat output FRUSTRATED.pdf but the password? I tried it in several positions.
  16. I received a .pdf file that I need to open with a password. How can I save it w/o a password? I've looked and looked, tried and tried, but . . . I've tried xpdf, Okular and Adobe Acrobat. I just can't find the command or option to do it. Thanks, Kieth

    KDE 4.2

I updated. It went well, took only a few minutes, and I haven't encountered any problems! I just added the ftp/kde4 page as an update site. Kieth
  18. :woops: :woops: :woops: :woops: :woops: :woops: :woops: All I had to do was go to options and "click" on the button next to "vendor", re-start OO, and it works!
  19. I'm running KDE4 with OpenOffice 3. I also have openoffice.org-java-common installed, and like Neddie, java doesn't work.
  20. You might find your answer in the Mandriva WIKI - here.
  21. No question is dumb, as we are all continually learning, or trying to learn. B)
  22. I can watch most of them. The ones I can't give me the following message: "The video you are trying to watch cannot be viewed from your current country or location." It's a great site - I bookmarked it.
