I installed Linux Professional 9 (Red Hat 9.2), and it changed the font size and margins of the splash screen. Wether I boot in Win98 or Linux, I cannot see the bottom line of the commands being shown. For instance, if the power goes out, and I restart the computer, I cannot see the line in linux that states that I 8 seconds (or however many it is) to press Y to have it check the system. I have a 17 inch monitor, and I would like to know what file I need to change (or delete) to resolve the problem. Yesterday, I received my Mandrake 9.2 disks. I am going to remove Red Hat and put on Mandrake. If I have to delete Win98, and reinstall it, that would be OK with me. I have Win98 and /backup on 1 hard drive (10 G) and then I put Linux on another drive (20G). Thanks, Kieth

I tried to find out how to get KMail to show me html letters, but couldn't find out how. Where is the option to turn on html letters?

mtweidmann, you wrote that KMail can handle html documents. If I'm not mistaken, even when it is enabled, instead of showing the photos, clipart, etc, in it's proper place, they are in icon form at the bottom of the letter. It was always that way for me, which is why I switced (after I asked in this forum which e-mail program is best!!). If the html e-mails can be seen with all the pictures in their proper place, I might switch back. Kieth

I like using html letters, so I use evolution. KMail does not have that option. Mozilla works well, too, but it always seemed slow and cumberson to me. I would like to try Balsa, but when I use the html pages and signitures, it shows only text. I just haven't learned to use it. Kieth

Actually, anon did answer your question. Log into you Mandrake Control Center. Enter into your Software Sources Manager. Push the add button. Push the removable device button. Then add the path or mount point where you will put the CD. For instance, one of mine is: removable://mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS2 Kieth

I have been trying to install Balsa 2.0.9, but it states that I need libgnomeprint-2-2.so.O and libgnomeprintui-2-2.so.O. I am having difficulty finding them. Do you konw where I can get them. Thank you

I changed my fstab, and put / in front of mnt/floppy. Now I have no problem with my floppy. Thanks!! As far as sometimes seeing the files, and sometimes no, well. . . the problem still exists. I was using KwikDisk, so therefore I wasn't using any commands. Now I am using icons that I put on my Desktop. The commands I put are /dev/hdc and /dev/scd0.

I just searched through the forum, and I could not find a solution to my problem. At times I have difficulty mounting my devices. Sometimes, even if I get them mounted, read files, then switch to another file, I then cannot go back to the device. It states that the file is non existant. I was able to get my computer to read both cd-roms. Actually, the man at the computer store did it! I had the pins set wrong. Anyway, the good news is: I BURNT MY FIRST CD IN LINUX!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your help!! Kieth

Well, lxthusdan, you were right, my burner wasn't working. As soon as you posted your reply, I pulled my burner and took it to a computer store. After spending about $70, I now have a new burner (40x12x48). Also, I can now visualize cds I put into it, IF I disconect the IDE cable from my other cd-rom. That is, my computer does not see both my CD-Rom and my burner on the same IDE cable. I can read/use one or the other, but not both. Therefore I would presume I have to switch my burner and a harddrive so that both cd-roms are not on the same IDE cable. Since I tried it once (see above) and it did not work, could someone explain to me (in very simple terms) how I could switch them? Last time I did, I could not enter into Linux. Thanks, Kieth

I had tried to mount my burner with a disk with data. No luck. It still states that there is no 'medium'. Just a curiosity question, bu I take it then that I should be able to burn a CD without mounting it first? If this is true, how do you burn a CD with supermount enabled? The fact that a CD, with or without data, is not recognised in my burner, could that be a BIOS problem?

I have tried burning CDs in and out of root. No luck. As lxthusdan suggested, I disabled supermount. Now I can manually mount my cd-rom, but not my burner! I also tried it with only my burner on my IDE cable (I disconected my cd-rom from the IDE cable). Still no luck. I started KwikDisk (a mount/unmount program), and without a problem the cd-rom is mounted, but it refuses to mount the burner. When I try, the message it gives me is: called: mount/dev/scd0 mount: No medium found Therefore, it would seem that, even though KwikDisk opens and closes the door to my burner, it is not able to see any type of disk I put into it. Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem would be greatly (and I mean really greatly) appreciated. Thanks in advance, Kieth

I disabled my supermount, but when I wrote supermount -disable, while under su (root), it stated that I had to make the changes directly in the /etc/fstab file. I tried, but I had no idea what to eliminate or change. Therefore I went into the Mandrake Control Center - Mount Points - CD-Rom - Options, and choose 'user' and 'noauto', and deselected 'supermount'. That resolved the problem, and supermount is now disabled. Kieth

OK, I have tried to do what was previously written. ERoaster now looks for the scsi device 0,3,0. I also tried to burn a CD with only my burner on the IDE cable. Still no luck. This last time that I tried to burn a CD with ERoaster, there was a long message, but part of it was: Sense Key: =X2 Not ready, Segment 0 Sense Code: 0X3A Qual 0X00 (medium not present) Fru 0X0 Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid) cmd finished after 0.000s timeout 40s cdrecord: No disk/Wrong disk mkisofs: Broken pipe.cannot fwrite 2048*1 I tried burning the CD while logged in as root. It doesn't seem to recognize the CD I have in the drive. I even tried more than one. It was a CD-RW disk. Any new ideas as to why I'm still having problems? I would appreciate any advice. I switched the ide cables, but then I only had problems. I could open Windows (on the small hard drive) but not Linux. It could not find the hard drive (the 20GB one). I tried to resolve the problem, but since I'm not too good with computers, I couldn't. Is there something else that I could try to burn a CD, then if it still doesn't work, then try changing my ide cables? Thanks again for your help. I know I'm not too good with computers. Kieth

I do not mind opening my box. I installed the disks I'm using. I do not know if it matters, but the hard drive with 10GB is where I put Windows. The one with 20GB is where I put Linux. Do I need to switch the cables or just the jumper caps, or what? I certainly appreciate your help. Kieth

OK, I have downloaded the recent updates for Mandrake 9.0, but it did not list a new cdrecord file, so I presume I have the latest release installed. For my BIOS screen, it states: Diskette Drive A: 1.44M, 3.5 in Display type EGA/VGA Diskette Drive B: none Serial port(s) 3F8 2F8 Pri. Master Disk: LBA, UDMA 33, 10248MB Parallel port(s) 378 Pri. Slave Disk: LBA, UDMA 33, 20548MB EDO Dram at Bank None Sec. Master Disk: CDROM, UDMA 33 SDRAM at Bank 01 Sec. Slave Disk: CDROM, Mode 4 If I understand it correctly (and if I do it's because I had a lucky guess!), my lilo file is correct, because it is emulating the secondary slave disk. Therefore, I did not change anything in lilo. So far, I have not changed anything. Should I now make changes in fstab, or another file? Thanks again for your help. Kieth
