  1. Mandriva 10.2 (or 2005 LE) is very stable and 2006.0 is not bad either, I suggest you switch to something newer, because I suspect that even those mirrors won't stay for much longer.
  2. Hi! I've got a most curious, but not all that of a funny problem. My OpenOffice 2.0.2 Writer has the same background colour as that I've set in KDE to be the standart background colour. But, come on, why should OpenOffice pick that up as a text background colour?! See the screenshot And please help me to switch it back to white. thanks! p.s. Maybe I should just reinstall it... [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  3. Don't be overdramatic, I've installed Mandriva in 12 minutes. p.s. I'm now on FC5 and like its' font rendering quite much, on pars with Mandriva. And I agree about fonts looking ugly on Debian based systems, but maybe it's because of my graphics card or something else.. (I've got Radeon 9000)
  4. What is that rpm hell you are talking about? I haven't had any problems with that since I found out that there are other than only the official repos years ago. In fact I prefer rpm over debian and source.
  5. those poor art students... I wouldn't want to be in their place whatever anyone says - Linux seriously lacks in professional graphics, animation and art software
  6. Looks better than all default KDE's I've seen in any distro!! B) btw, when can we expect a major release of Yoper? --- p.s. It's a bit ummm amusing, but, if someone looked at my desktop at any time, it always looks the same - whether Mandriva, Kanotix, Ubuntu, Fedora Core I always set KDE look like I want it, in fact I think that looking at Linux screenshots is one of the most useless activities, because they all basically look the same :D Of course distro specific application screenshots is another thing, but I can't imagine why they (Linux screenshot galleries on the internet) always do a snapshot of Open Office, Amarok, etc... It's the same as looking at Windows Media Player for the thousand' time
  7. I agree. Even if I were a developer in one of the printer companies and myself used Linux at home this kind of wording that is in this petition would only tempt me to tell all the petitioners to go and **** themselves. It doesn't encourage anyone to make drivers or anything, it's too hostile and can only make them dislike Linux users. edit: stupid mandrivausers.org nazi dirty word filters!
  8. I just use the tar.gz package from mozilla.org. I point the shortcut to the location of the /firefox/firefox file and all is good.
  9. SMART can be installed on any RPM based distro? If so, yum, yast, etc. aren't unavoidable problems. In fact I just installed smart on FC5, because yum, though good in concept, is very slow indeed.
  10. Actually that probably was arctic's secret plan First you register, then you find yourself installing Yoper
  11. I voted Fedora Core, just installed FC5 (my first FC) and it has been running for less than 2 hours, but I already love it. I've also tried other distros, like (K)Ubuntu, Mepis, Kanotix (hd install), Knoppix, and some 3 obscure ones who's names I don't remember (one was based on Slackware), but they all just didn't feel quite right. :D p.s. My first distro was Mandrake 9.1
  12. You might want to check out this thread: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=31385
  13. It's a 120gb one, but it was partitioned long ago without considering that Linux could take 5 cd's :) Now I'd have huge problems repartitioning, because the closest partition is stuffed and I have nowhere to back it up right now.
  14. Thanks! I've never installed FC before and those 5cd's got me scared, that's why I was asking. p.s. I have a seperate 1.5gb swap partition p.p.s. Is there any place where I can find contents according to cd's? Maybe I don't need to download all 5cd's, but 3 are enough... Haven't found anything on google yet
  15. hey, thanks! but what about my 7gb / ? :/ will that be enough? I want to leave about 4gb free
  16. My total ADSL download speed is 60KB/s, sucky provider. by the way, I noticed there are 5 cd iso images. can someone please tell what exactly is in those? seems awfully lot even compared to Mandriva and I have only 7gb for my root (stupid early partitioning decision) ======================== from release notes Does that mean I won't be able to use my PS2 mouse? I don't have a usb one...
  17. heh, I knew about the early mirrors, read on OSnews, but was afraid that they'd do some last minute changes (like 15->20) and now I don't have any time for hunting those down.
  18. Damn! I will be writting an essay at the uni then! Stupid EU rights... spoling Linux fun... *grumbles, grumbles, grumbles ------ /Imagines a lot of people dancing with that counter on their monitors :D
  19. Yes, let's do a little Fedora anticipation dance :woot_jump: :D
  20. btw, Fedora Core 5 is going to be released later today.
  21. Kanotix is quite up to date and fast, you can use apt-get with it.
  22. It just feels so... (even if technically not so much). Maybe I should try again, but I didn't like it. It reminded me of windows too much, desktop was full of icons/shortcuts (I loathe those), and even "My Computer" was there... and mcc was designed to look as if for children. I like more serious attitude :D I have never actually tried SUSE, just what some of my friends have talked about, now I know more about it and am not considering it.
  23. For me the philosophy behind the product is also a merit of the product. And I'm doing what I want to do.
