  1. Sorry for asking so many questions. I want to uninstall mplayerplug-in so I can do it again using the correct command ( --enable-gtk1 ) for the ./config and then do the "make", "make install" to allow the control buttons to show. I have to do " make clean " command in this directory ( /home/jmr0311/mplayerplug-in) as a root and then manually remove the directory mplayerplug-in, am I interpreting the instructions correct. Thanks devries. Javi
  2. I went to this directory which is where I build mplayerplug-in ( /home/jmr0311/mplayerplug-in/) and in command line I type "make uninstall" , but nothing happen, all it does is write this: it doesn't make any difference if I do it as root. I'm trying to re-make mplayerplug-in but it doesn't let me. This is what gets displayed in terminal when I'm trying to "make" mplayerplug-in; Any ideas guys of what's going on.... Tank you Javi
  3. Luis101, When you see this post, I will like to ask you a question regarding the start-script sample you provide in the previous post. When you said script you mean that I have to save the file as " .sh " (eg. startup.sh) , because I did the startup file as a text file only but it never change my wallpaper. I had to go to the " init " file and change it there. Javi
  4. Liquidzoo, I find out that I have to run it as root , Thank you for the help, but when I typed and press enter it says that everything is already install. Also how you set up a cooker source using "easy urpmi". Javi
  5. Hi Steve, Thank you for reply, I went to terminal and type down what you saud and I gat this error : [jmr0311@home-desktop jmr0311]$ urpmi glibc-devel && urpmi libgtk+2.0_0-devel bash: urpmi: command not found [jmr0311@home-desktop jmr0311]$ Then I went to MDK Control Center and try to use the installation tool but when I search for those packages nothing comes up with the names you give me. Javi

  7. Thank you for being so kind, and thanks to iphitus for that fabulous link, great info. Javi SORRY P.S. How can I update to the latest Fluxbox,( I have v 0.9.8 ) What command I need to run if any, or I just need to download the .tar file and install it. Also all the command you outline in the FAQ, did they need to be run from within Fluxbox or it can be done in KDE.
  8. Thank you guys for your help. I have in the directory (~/.fluxbox/ ) three files that were created at install. They are " init ", " menu ", " keys " , there is not startup file there. Then the other day I was playing with Fluxbox changing the background and another file was created automatically " lastwallpaper " , now I can't get my background back unless I run this command ( fbsetbg -l ). Also I hear you mention cooker as a source to install packages. Let me ask you this, I heard that cooker could be unreliable sometimes, Is that true? and How can I setup one on the URPMI. What this command do ? Luis101, also in your startup file this # means comment out, so is not going to be execute it. Liquidzoo, I did install that library using URPMI, but it didn't correct my problem. Javi
  9. I was reading in the Fluxbox website and it says something about creating the file call ( .xsession) is this the same file as (~/.fluxbox/startup) or this is something totally different. Javi
  10. I did check on MDK control center for the URPMI package but I want to install the latest. Do you think this is a good idea or should I stick with the URPMI version. I want to use gDesklets for my Fluxbox WM. Javi
  11. When I did my installation of Fluxbox in my system it automatically created it a choice in Kdm login screen to run fluxbox. So I need to go to (~/.fluxbox/ ) and create a file call startup and then add the links to the applications the way you said in there. Then when I go to Fluxbox if I right click on the desktop and the little windows opens, the links to the applications are going to be there. I was trying to install gDesklets in my system but I'm having an error when I'm doing the " ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc : [jmr0311@home-desktop jmr0311]$ cd /home/jmr0311/gDesklets-0.30pre/ [jmr0311@home-desktop gDesklets-0.30pre]$ ./configure --prefix=/usr checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking whether build environment is sane... yes /home/jmr0311/gDesklets-0.30pre/missing: Unknown `--run' option Try `/home/jmr0311/gDesklets-0.30pre/missing --help' for more information configure: WARNING: `missing' script is too old or missing checking for gawk... gawk checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no checking for style of include used by make... 12. To the fluxbox users: I'm want to experiment with different windows manager, so I install Fluxbox, I'm so cautivated by the customization you can do in this environment. I just want to jump in and start customizing but here is where I get stumble. Because I don't know what to do to achieve those nice graphics like this one or maybe this one. I found them in the Fluxbox website. I ask to my self if a need to be a Guru in C++ to be able to use Fluxbox, because I can't seem to understand any of the instruction I find in the internet that are related to Fluxbox. I need some guidance ( like a tutorial ) on how to deal with Fluxbox and his configuration. I think you have to install all the applications you want to use in Fluxbox using my regular KDE enviroment, But I don't know how to make them available in Fluxbox. Also I notice that a lot of the stuff some other people are using in Fluxbox , they seem to created them and placed them in ~/.fluxbox/ directory. Help please cause I've been for the last two weeks trying to accomplish something in Fluxbox with no success. Javi
  13. What command do I need to uninstall everything (mplayer and mplayerplug-in) and start from fresh. Do you think this is a good idea because when I tried to compile using the --enable-gtk1 , it give me an error. I didn't use the rpm because I read in some other forums that is best to use "source packages" because it deals with dependencies better than RPM packages . Javi
  14. I have the latest mplayerplug-in as well ( " mplayerplug-in-2.66.tar.gz" ) but I don't have the buttons on my screen. I used for mplayer ( " MPlayer v1.0pre5 source" ) as the file to do the install. Can you post some of the step you follow in your installation of the plug-in. I want to compare notes to see what I missed or what I did differently. Please, this will be of great help for me. Thank you. Javi
  15. Hi people, I need some help with mplayer and the plug-in for firefox mplayerplug-in. Whem I'm playing video trailers from ( www.apple.com/trailers/ ), mplayerplug-in opens fine and plays the stream movie clip, but the screen when it opens doesn't give me any kind of button control (eg. play, pause, stop) or volume control in the bottom of the screen. I remember some people saying in other forums that you need to download a skin and install it on /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin/ . I did this already but it still doesn't show the buttons. Another people says that you have to set in mplayerplug-in.conf the line that says "use-gui=mini", but that doesn't work either. I install the latest mplayer MPlayer-1.0pre5 with this packages "gtk+-1.2.10 , glib-1.2.10" to make mplayer worked. Also I used the "gecko-sdk" package per install instructions for the mplayerplug-in . I'm using firefox 0.9.2+ as a browser. Mplayer and Gmplayer are working fine is just when I'm playing stream videos from the internet. Any idea how to fix this ? Javi
  16. Hi guy's again. I wanted to share something else about those modifications to mandrake. I was a little disappointed of a problem when i did the change for the background image behind the login screen pop-up. When the machine was booting up, mandrake was showing the regular blue screen with the star for a few seconds before it will change to the one I set-up and this was annoying me. What I did to correct this was to go to the directory where you save your theme ( /usr/share/mdk/backgrounds/ ) and change the name of your theme to "Mandrake.png". This is the default image mandrake used, so in this case your image will be the default image and the delay is gone. Hope it help. Javi
  17. I don't know of you guys but the login screen and the KDE splash in screen in Mandrake are so lame. I wanted to change them, so I download a few new themes. What to do with them?, well... B) To install Ksplash Themes navigate to this directory : /usr/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/ , install all new themes in this location. Now when you go to KDE Control Center and look for "LookNFeel - Splash Screen", the new themes are going to be display there so you can select them. B) The only thing I install for the login screen was a new icon to be display as user in the screen. To do that find the icon of your preference and place it in this directory : /usr/share/mdk/faces/ . Now when you go to KDE Control Center and look for System - Login Manager , your new icon is going to be one of the new choice for your user display. B) Also in if you want to change the background wallpaper when the login screen pops-up, you can do that by going to the background tab within (System - Login Manager) and browse to where you have located the wallpaper you desire to use. This are a few things that make Mandrake/KDE looks and feels a lot better. Hope this few notes will make this experience for you so much better than what it was for me trying to figure this out and trying to find helpful references with no success. Cheeerrrsss!!! Javi :P
  18. Hi guys, I found a little something in "Here" that you can use to create a File manager super user icon that allows you to launch your file manager(ex. konqueror) from a GUI interface for you to manipulate files and folder withing konqueror file manager with root priviledges. But there is a problem that the author comments about in regarding this which is that when you want to edit a content of a file you get an error in opening that file with kwrite or any other text editor of your predilection. Apparently there is some command/attribute that needs to be add to allow this interaction between konqueror and kwrite. This is where all the Gurus can help, trying to make this work for people like me and all the others that likes GUI more than command line, Don't bashe me I'm also working to improve my command lines skills. Thank you all. Javi [moved from Installing Mandrake by spinynorman]
  19. I did it in my system under the KDE of Mandrake 10, I think that the instructions are probably similar, go to this post where I explain how to do it. Hope it helps. http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=16598 Javi
  20. Hi users of Mandrake. I just want to share some information on the steps to add some new boot themes in the; If you don't have any boot theme, you can go Here and download any source rpm from the mirror of your predilection. You need root priviledges to install the RPM. Ones you finish installing the tar.bz2 file go to this directory; This is where all the boot themes are going to be located. Now we're going to accomodate the files in there respected locations: 1) Login as a root and open konqueror or the file manager of your predilection. 2) Select the themes you want to include in MDK Control Center 3) Copy them in this directory; 4) Go to all the themes folders you just add and erase the folder "config" 5) Now, ones again copy all the themes you selected previously in this directory; 6) Go to all the themes folders you just add and erase the folder "images" and "lilo" Now when you go to MDK Control Center / Boot / Boot Themes, you are going to see a drop down window with the name of all the themes you add previously. Just select one and Mandrake will do the rest for you. Enjoy... Javi
  21. Hi everybody, I'm a newbie in Mandrake Linux 10 and I've been enjoy every second of it. But at this moment I need some help, Fot the last week or so I've being trying to add a bootsplash screen right when Lilo start executing the mandrake OS, you know, the black screen with all those words of all the procces been initialize. I want to add the Linux penguin from www.bootsplash.org in the background of that screen. I find out that mandrake has some script files that if you run them it will do all the necessary steps to add the bootsplash. I'm trying to run this shell scripts that are located in this directory; make-boot splash "nameoftheme" rewritejpeg "nameofjpeg.jpeg" switch-themes "nameoftheme" But my question is, Do I have to be login as a root in the directory where the scripts reside for them to be execute it?, How the sript know where to look for for the theme file? Any suggestions guys are very appreciate it. [moved from Installing Mandrake by spinynorman]
  22. Hi guys, I have this questions for the wise in this forum, I did some search but everything I can come up with is related to slackware system and I don't know if those instructions apply to mandrake also. Never the less, the instructions are a little complicated to follow. I read about a patch for your kernel that need to be compile but I was wondering if that is absolutely necessary. I believe the kernel i'm running is 2.6.3-7 MDK in my machine and I found this patch doing some google "bootsplash-3.1.4-2.6.3.diff" that is supposed to works with 2.6.3 and 2.6.4 kerne. I download a few themes already from this web site " www.bootsplash.org " for the boot splash and from this web site " www.73lab.com " for the lilo splash but I don't feel comfortable yet doing this changes without the help of some of you guys. Looking for some help, thanks. Javi
  23. Thanks streeter for your reply. I understand your concerns and I also understand that asking for help in this matter will implicate some risk that I'm willing to take and I'm not going to hold anybody responsible other than myself. To answer your question, I'm not running any server and I only have one computer. I'm just connected to the internet via a cable modem (ISP - Road Runner) connected to my 2wire router/gateway and then to my only computer. To add to this, all I do when I'm connected to the internet is search different topics, visit my favorite web sites, read the post in forums like this one and some others as well so I can learn about Linux and some other matters, retrieve my e-mails and sometime send e-mails as well. I don't play any online games in which you interact with other users. I sometime play music and videos when I'm browsing this forums so I don't want that to be affected. This is what my internet usage represent, pretty boring. Javi
  24. Hi everyone. I'll being visiting this forum for a few weeks already and let me tell you that the information, resources and members support is incredible. Thanks to all of you in behalf of all the newbies like me. Now to the question, I'm running Mandrakelinux 10 in my system, Basically I use my system for e-mail, INTERNET browsing, etc., nothing fancy just regular usage. I have to confess that I'm a security freak even do, I know that using Linux represent a major step in improving security compare with windows. I was reading about IP tables and I was wondering if this is something that I need base in how I use my system. If you guys agree that isn't a bad idea to have one, I will like to ask you Guru's in here if you can provide me with a basic script that I can use as a markup. Countless hours reading about creating scripts but I'm still loss went it comes to command line. Also anyone know about a good book for beginners, what I meant for beginner's is not a book that assumes I know the basics because I don't and then take it from there, like a lot of information I found on the INTERNET. Any help in achieving my goals will be very appreciated. Thanks.. Javi [moved from Installing Mandrake by spinynorman]
