Well look at the upper border ( the one that shows the path ) also look at the minimized/maximized/closed buttoms. That is the look I want to achieve in my Fluxbox. Javi

  10. MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE The MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE protocol allows Xdm to create a hard-to-guess token that is only readable by the user account which successfully logged in via Xdm. It uses the Unix file system access control to protect the token. The user can copy this token to the user's home directories on other systems to allow clients on those hosts to connect to the X server. [sch91] When using MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1, the client sends a 128 bit ``cookie'' along with the connection setup information. If the cookie presented by the client matches one that the X server has, the connection is allowed access. The cookie is chosen so that it is hard to guess; xdm generates such cookies automatically when this form of access control is used. The user's copy of the cookie is usually stored in the .Xauthority file in the home directory, although the environment variable XAUTHORITY can be used to specify an alternate location. Xdm automatically passes a cookie to the server for each new login session, and stores the cookie in the user file at login. The cookie is transmitted on the network without encryption, so there is nothing to prevent a "network snooper" from obtaining the data and using it to gain access to the X server. This system is useful in an environment where many users are running applications on the same machine and want to avoid interference from each other, with the caveat that this control is only as good as the access control to the physical network. In environments where network-level snooping is difficult, this system can work reasonably well. I found that information doing some google and that's why I'm a little concern. Javi
  11. What is .ICEauthority hidden file in my home directory ? . I notice my machine a little slow, and I'm wondering if my system is being compromise. I'm not running any server, and there is only one user, ME. I read this line " MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE " inside that file. In one instance I notice around three hidden files with this name " .dcopserver_localhost_0 " and all of the sudden they disappear in front of my eyes. Can anyone help me understand what's going on? Javi

  14. How can you make Firestarter run as a service. I went to the website of firestarter and it says this; I did the installation using the RPM package, then I went to MDK control center>System>Services but I don't see firestarter as one of the services. Am I missing something or else ? And by the way thank you guys for your comments, I greatly appreciate them. Javi
  15. I did the installation of Firestarter 0.9.3 following the instructions in their website, everything went flawless. Now, I want to run Firestarter when I'm login into Fluxbox. I add this instruction ( firestarter & ) to my startup file for fluxbox, but when I load into fluxbox the firewall firestarter doesn't start until I enter my root password on the little pop-up window that appears. Do you guys know if there is any switch or anything I can add to this instruction ( firestarter & ) that will allow the application to start automatically without asking me for the root password. Javi
  16. I don't know is this will help you but just give it a try. Look for your mplayerplug-in.conf file and open it. This is a snap shot of the file in my system: Maybe you can try changing some of those setting. This is a link that explain those setting in the ( *.conf ) file. Remember that if you do any change to the file, you have to recopy them to the respected folders I mention in the original post, so the changes could take effect. Javi
  17. Which one should I install the latest RPM version of Firestarter 0.9.3 or use the one I get through MDK control center which is 0.9.2-6mdk. The newest version has quite a few improvements. I do posses a 2Wire router on my system I just want another tool like Firestarter that I can use to monitor in real time any intrusion or attempts. How can I determine if I posses all the Gnome libraries in my system. Javi
  18. Try to add mplayerplug-in.so and mplayerplug-in.xpt files into this directory ~/.mozilla/plugins/. You will find the ( *.so and *.xpt ) file in this directory ~/mplayerplug-in/ . Also what I did was to copy this two files ( mplayerplug-in.conf - mplayerplug-in.type ) in this two directories ~/.mozilla/ and /etc/ . So far I'm able to play all types of stream videos. If you need more help just ask again. I hope it help... Javi
  19. I read in their website that this application is developed; I think for GNOME. Sorry if I misinterpreted wrongly. But can you used Firestarter linux firewall in a system running KDE as desktop manager. How about, if you are in a windows manager like Fluxbox ? Is this firewall a good choice to use as another layer of defense against intrusions. Javi
