  1. For posterity: I installed Nero and have been very satisfied. :D
  2. Hi, All: When I try to install Dropbox on Mandriva 2010.0 (i586) RPM complains: > [epretorious@tinytop2 Downloads]$ sudo rpm -Uvh nautilus-dropbox-0.6.3-1.fedora.i386.rpm > warning: nautilus-dropbox-0.6.3-1.fedora.i386.rpm: Header V3 RSA/SHA1 signature: NOKEY, key ID 5044912e > error: Failed dependencies: > libgnome >= %{gnome_version} is needed by nautilus-dropbox-0.6.3-1.fc10.i386 > nautilus-extensions >= 2.16.0 is needed by nautilus-dropbox-0.6.3-1.fc10.i386 Ideas? 3. I just installed Mandriva 2010.0 (I'd been using Mandriva 2008.0 previously) and noticed that the newer version of Brasero (2.28.2)... takes almost three minutes just to recognize when an audio CD has been inserted into the CD-ROM, and takes three times as long to copy an audio CD as the older version! What can I do to make Brasero as fast as it used to be?
  4. The alsamixer error message proved to be the clue that enabled me to crack the case (using Google). Specifically, Genotoo Bug #208016 & the post "EeePC in-kernel ALSA difficulties [solved]" in the Gentoo forums described the symptoms and error messages that I was experiencing so I dedicded to try boomslang's suggested solution: ...and, viola, sound works properly! :D Thanks!
  5. FWIW: [using the Knoppix 6.1 LiveCD] I've verified that the hardware is compatible with Linux and functional.

  8. I'm using the GNOME Sound Preferences tool of Mandriva 2008.0 to [unseucessfully] test sound.
  9. I feel kind'a foolish asking this question, but... Am I the only person here who can't find the "My Controls" selection? (i.e., I found the "My Profile" and the "My Settings" links but neither has a "skin" setting.)
  10. 11. Portmapper and NFS are difficult to secure using any kind of port-based rules because Portmapper will dynamically assign ports for use. The NFS server configuration file /etc/sysconfig/nfs-server provides some guidance on the issue but I know that there used to be a more definitive document somewhere within the file system (e.g., /usr/share/doc) but I can't find it right now. Maybe I'm thinking of Mandriva 2007... [When the Gentoo Wiki is restored] Take a look at the Gentoo NFS HOWTO for a better idea of how to define the ports that Portmapper assigns to NFS. I believe that these variables are fairly universal. [in the mean time, Google has the HOWTO cached.] From PC1 execute the following command as root... rpcinfo -p localhost This command should return a list of ports used by NFS. If it does not, NFS is not running. You'll need to dig around to find out why. If NFS is running, execute the following command from PC1 as root... showmount -e localhost This command should return a list of NFS exports. If it does not, the problem resides with the NFS configuration on PC1. Please post the contents of your /etc/exports file. If NFS is running and correctly exporting directories, execute the following command from PC2 as root... showmount -e 192.168.1.101 This command should return a list of NFS exports. If it does not, the problem resides with the firewall configuration on PC1.
  12. Yup - I tried that too and experienced the same symptoms.

  18. Using the Screen Resolution Preferences control panel (System->Preferences->Screen Resolution) I'm not able to configure the Gnome screen resolution to match the resolution of my Dell 2407WFP-HC flat panel monitor (1920x1200). The Screen Resolution Preferences control panel only offers... 1024x768 800x600 640x480 ...though the X.org control panel (Mandiva Control Center->Hardware->X Server) recognizes the nVidia GPU and configures X.org to support 1920x1200 resolution: Section "Monitor" Identifier "monitor1" VendorName "Dell" ModelName "Dell 2407WFP (Digital)" HorizSync 30.0-83.0 VertRefresh 56.0-76.0 # Monitor preferred modeline (60.0 Hz vsync, 74.0 kHz hsync, ratio 16/10) ModeLine "1920x1200" 154 1920 1968 2000 2080 1200 1203 1209 1235 -hsync +vsync # Edited for clarity EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "device1" VendorName "nVidia Corporation" BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 3 - GeForce 4 (96xx)" Driver "nvidia" Option "DPMS" Option "RenderAccel" "false" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" Option "IgnoreEDID" "1" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "screen1" Device "device1" Monitor "monitor1" DefaultColorDepth 24 Subsection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1920x1200" "1680x1050" "1600x1000" "1440x900" "1280x800" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1920x1200" "1680x1050" "1600x1000" "1440x900" "1280x800" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1920x1200" "1680x1050" "1600x1000" "1440x900" "1280x800" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1920x1200" "1680x1050" "1600x1000" "1440x900" "1280x800" EndSubsection EndSection FWIW: Though the nVidia control panel (System->Administration->nVidia Display Settings, ver. 1.0-9639) recognizes the GPU and the monitor correctly, it only offers three more display settings than the Gnome Screen Resolution Preferences control panel: 1280x1024 1280x960 1280x800 How can I make Gnome use the corect resolution?
