If I understand you a little bit, you have burned the cd's wrong, you should burn the three cd's as an Image, not unpack them first, you should get a burner program like Nero and burn iso image to cd's, not unpack them cause then boot information gets lost , there is also a program that burns images with XP explorer :

Well, I have read there are lfs systems which size is between 5-10 mb, and where apache is installed on, and installing the lfs system is not that hard, just follow instructions, have alot of time, and love linux with all your heart :P
