  1. I tried to set Modeline from commands

    $ gtf 1280 1024 85

    and

    $ gtf 1280 1024 75

But I did not see any difference

Rebooting as single user and running

    X -configure

    I get error(from /var/log/Xorg.0.log file):

Actually I want to move from Fedora 14 to Mandriva 2010. In both cases I use kde and installe nvidia driver.

I was using Fedora 12 and 14 for more 1 year. Installing Mandriva 2010 I found that my screen is rather hard for my eyes, my eyes quickly becomes tired

I thought, maybe my eyes have some time to become habitual to Mandriva ? I am sitting on Mandriva about 1 and half monthes and still my screen is rather hard for my eyes...

I returned to Fedora 14 with KDE and I feel that it is much easier for my eyes... In Fedora after installing nvidia and setting in nvidia-settings application screen Resolution(1280*1024,75Hz) I do not tune xorg.conf manually in any way...

How can it be ? That it is rather frustrating for me...

I run command X -configure in single user in Fedora 14 and I get next xorg.conf file (without error as in Mandriva as I wrote before):

What is the difference between Fedora 14 and Mandriva ?

I think I can try to copy this file as /etc/x11/xorg.conf in Mandriva file or even to copy to Mandriva xorg.conf from My Feodra system, but is it safe? As I read wrong configuration in xorg.conf can fisically damage of monitor ?

  2.

I read it, but that is not still clear for me...

Please, clarify, which parameters and how have I to tune in my xorg.conf:

       Section "Monitor"

Is it ok 2 Section "Monitor" sections ?

  3. Hi, All

I have videocard nVidia GeForce 9600 GT and ViewSonic VA902

Problem is that running XFdrake there is no ViewSonic VA902 in selection. The nearest item is ViewSonic VA800.

I select it and it seems for me that not all is ok, my screen is rather hard for my eyes,my eyes quickly becomes tired.

It seems to me that all is ok with my videocard:

Can this problem be as wrong ViewSonic selection in XFdrake or can be some other reason?

    Mandriva Linux 2010.2 with KDE

  4. If you can't find a kernel version you like and don't mind trying 3rd party apps then MIB (Mandriva Italia Backports) has kernel packages with PAE enabled.

    I added media

    urpmi.addmedia kernel_mib http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/2010.1/32/projects/kernels/2.6.38.8/

    Do you mean this ?

I installed nrj libs and have :

rpm -qa | grep -i nrj
    kernel-nrj-pae-desktop-2.6.38.8-nrjpae.69mib-1-1mib2010.2
    kernel-nrj-pae-desktop-latest-2.6.38.8-nrjpae.69mib2010.2
    kernel-nrj-desktop-devel-2.6.38.8-nrj.69mib-1-1mib2010.2
    kernel-nrj-desktop-2.6.38.8-nrj.69mib-1-1mib2010.2
    kernel-nrj-desktop-devel-latest-2.6.38.8-nrj.69mib2010.2
    kernel-nrj-desktop-latest-2.6.38.8-nrj.69mib2010.2
    kernel-nrj-pae-desktop-devel-2.6.38.8-nrjpae.69mib-1-1mib2010.2
    kernel-nrj-pae-desktop-devel-latest-2.6.38.8-nrjpae.69mib2010.2

Loading system I select desktop-nrjpae but I get message that XServer is not configured

I deleted xorg.conf file and loaded without video driver and have :

    uname -a

But when I tried to install video drivers running XFdrake( Proprietary driver )

and on testing new configuration I get error

    Can I fix tit ?

  5. Hi,

I have 4GB memory on my computer. After installation I see all 4 GB.

But after installing of kernel-desktop-latest and restarting I see

        # uname -a
       Linux localhost 2.6.33.7-desktop-2mnb #1 SMP Mon Sep 20 19:00:25 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

        # free
total used free shared buffers cached

       Swap: 2096440 0 2096440

It looks like desktop version of Mandriva does not understand more 3GB memory?

I tried to work on server version of Mandriva, but encountered problems with some applications like smplayer, vlc – when playing movies they make some pauses, which I do like at all.

Can desktop version of Mandriva work with 4GB Memory, something like PAE in Fedora ?

  6. Yes I see files in system:

    # rpm -ql libfreetype6
    /usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6
    /usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6.4.0

    /usr/share/fonts/TTF/liberation/LiberationSerif-Regular.ttf
    /usr/share/fonts/TTF/liberation/fonts.dir
    /usr/share/fonts/TTF/liberation/fonts.scale

All apps(like open Office Writer or kjots) see these fonts.

Only old 32 bit ZendStudio 5.1.1 editor does not see them.

    I ask How can I install speciall 32 bit version of libfreetype6, fonts-ttf-liberation ?

Or how tp make ZendStudio 5.1.1 see these installed 64 bit fonts?

  7. Hi,

I installed windows fonts by adding at site easyurpmi.zarb.org PLF medias and running commands:

    urpmi libfreetype6 --force
    urpmi fonts-ttf-liberation

    and have :

    # rpm -qa libfreetype6
    libfreetype6-2.3.12-1.6mdv2010.2
    # rpm -qa fonts-ttf-liberation
    fonts-ttf-liberation-1.05.2-2mdv2010.1

Problem is that in 64bit Madriva I installed old ZendStudio 5.1.1 editor which is 32 bit.

It does not see installed windows fonts. Have I to install 32 bit versions of libfreetype6 and fonts-ttf-liberation ? If yes how to do this?

    Or can be other reason?

  8. Running :

    urpmi audacious
A requested package cannot be installed:

    Continue installation anyway? (Y/n) n

If is there a way to install ZendStudio5.5.1 in 64 bit Mandriva?

P.S. I know about 64 bit versions of 7 and 8 ZendStudio. But to my regret ZendStudio 7,8 is made in other way in comparison with 5 and I found

    it very unconvinient.

Also I tried netbeans and eclipse and found ZendStudio5.5.1 more convenient...

  10. Hi

In Mandriva 2010.2 with KDE in console there is menu "Bookmarks->Add bookmark". Selecting it current directory

    1) Is not saved if I am logged in console as root. I mean opening "Bookmarks=>EditBookmarks" menu I see empty items.

    2) saved ok if I am logged as not root user

    Can I fix it?
