  1. OK, I'm setting up a PC for my aunt with Mandriva 2006, and I definitely wanna replace Kaffeine 0.7.1 with 0.8.1 as it's interface is much improved, but I can't get any package of to work the way I need. I have Mandriva installed with my local language, danish, and everything is nice, but Kaffeine 0.8.1 comes up in english even though the translations are included in the package, are any of you in here aware of why it would do this?

    KDE 3.5.1

Do they do that with all their packages or is it just something they do on KDE? Because I think following Mandriva's style is a good idea, has anyone been using the SoS packages? I might have a friend moving to Linux next week, and I think Mandriva will do very well for him, and I was wondering if I should give him KDE 3.5.1 and Xorg 6.9 or if he will be happier with the Mandriva provided KDE 3.4.2 and Xorg 6.8.2?
  3. I may be 100% wrong about this, but I don't believe that Mandrake by default uses the vanilla sources for their distribution, I noticed on the update sites that there are an RPM for the kernel-source of version 2.4.28, but I was wondering if there is an RPM out for version 2.4.29 of the Mandrake kernel. The reason I'm asking is because I'm tryng to get Mandrake 10.1 to run on my Xbox, and the newest kernel patches are for 2.4.29 as far as I know. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  4. Well, if that problem is on a retail version of Mandrake 10.1 I'd say that hurts MandakeSoft's reputation, but how is KDE 3.3 on Mandrake 10.1 (I ask because I havn't been able to find a single screenshot), does it look different than 3.2.3 ? I like a desktop with a bunch of colors because it gets me in a good mood to look at something bright colorful like if you look at a rainbow.
  5. What sort of "problems" are you reffering to? It's because I'd really like to use KDE 3.3, a friend of mine bought a copy of SuSE Linux Profesional 9.2 and installed on his laptop and I was just amazed of the KDE 3.3 desktop. I won SuSE 9.2 in a local launch contest, sounds weird, but I actually did! B) So I'm kind of thinking, should I go for SuSE 9.2 for the cool desktop and wonderful things like YaST or should I stick with Mandrake 10.1 for wonderful things like urpmi and the great amount of RPM packages available and easy to install.
  6. I doing a major hardware upgrade during the upcomming christmas holidays, for example I will upgrade my current motherboard to Asus' nForce2 A7N8X-E Deluxe (nForce2 is good enough for me, and I don't have the money for AMD64). I also ordered Mandrakelinux 10.1 PowerPack from a local Linux reseller. OK down to my question, is it possible to install KDE 3.3 during the actual installation of the distro so that you don't have to install KDE 3.2.3 ?
  7. I like to try different things in Linux, like different widget styles and all that, and Mandrake offers a few different styles of the KMenu, but after switching back and forth my menu is messed up, I think that the path to the directory that is set to be the the directiry where the folders and shortcuts of the menu is stored is not set to the corresponding directory of the style that is set. Does any one know where this path is specified? Seriously, my KMenu is really messed up, is there a way to restore it to a "Fresh-Installation" state?
  8. I'm installing KDE on my Xbox running Gentoo, and I don't want to use the KDE that is requiring the most of the system's hardware, since the Xbox only has 733 Mhz and 64 MB RAM, which version of KDE would be best?
  9. If you're installing it on an older PC it's acsually great to compile from source because then the programs takes full advantage of the specific system's hardware.
  10. Thank you soo much chris z, that did the trick! :D
  11. I feel so dum, but I don't see anything about drivers on the permissions.

  13. Today I accidently removed my "Show Desktop" icon from the kicker panel, how do I get it back? I can't find it under the Applets section.
