  2. Hi, I am experiencing problems with crontab editing om Mandrake 10.0. The only editor I have installed is vi. I want to add a line to root's crontab, so I invoke the editor thus: # crontab -e which launches vi. I am able to write in the line I want to add, but when I exit (!wq) I end up with the following errormessage: no crontab for root - using an empty one crontab: installing new crontab "/tmp/crontab.14449":0: bad month errors in crontab file, can't install. Do you want to retry the same edit? If I answer Y vi displaies the line I wrote in, but when I try to save it I get the same error again. Looks like vi is writing rubbish into the file. What's the remedy for this?
  3. I have looked booth at the ATI and the HP/Compaq sites, but as far as I can tell the ATI RS200M has no official Linux support. From the Mandrake site I got the following data: Mandrakelinux 10.0 features the following software: Kernel 2.6.3 XFree86 4.3 Mandrake Linux 9.1 features the following software: Kernel 2.4.21 XFree86 4.3.0 The strange thing is that 9.1 and 10.0 appear to have the same version of XFree86, which worked with 9.1 but not with 10.0. Could it be that XFree86 is compiled with different parameters on 10.0?
  4. Hi, I have just updated from Mandrake 9.1 to Mandrake 10.0 on a Compaq EvoN1020v (a portable) and ran into a problem with the graphics driver. The adaptor is ATI RS200M, 1024x768x60Hz, 32 bit, which I cannot find among the supported drivers; the installation script chooses ATI Radeon and when I run the test I get an error message: Unable to determine the screen layout. I have also tried the some of the other ATI options, but get the same error message. It is probably a case of using the wrong driver. I worked fine with Mandrake 9.1, so it is a bit strange it doesn't with 10.0. Do I have to download the driver from somewhere? Thanks in advance.

    Serial ports

    1) Does Mandrake 10.0 use ord style naming ttyS0, ttyS1, etc. or new style tts/0, tts/1, etc.? 2) If a serial port is locked by another process, is there a way to find out which process that is?

    Eicon Diva

I am trying to get HylaFax working on Mandrake 9.2, with a Eicon Diva 852 ISDN T/A, connected via RS232. I installed HylaFax when I installed the OS and it seems to be running OK. I have tried # cu -l tty0 but I get the message cu: open (/dev/tty0): Permission denied cu: tty0 : Line in use Do I have to install any drivers?
  8. The printer has mysteriously and suddenly started working, so fort about it.
  9. Hi, I cannot get the printer to work with Mandrake 10.0. My printer is located on a LAN and the connection is OK, as the printer is found during configuration. Also, I have got some spurious pages when fiddling with CUPS. I have tried several different options, but to no avail. When I try to print a pdf-file from Konqueror, for example, I get the following error message: A printer error occoured. Error message received from system: /usr/bin/lpr -P 'Imprimante' '-#1' '/tmp/kde/-me/konquerorLJZola.ps': excecution failed with message: lpr: unable to print file: client-error-not found Antbody that understand this message and can tell me what's wrong? Best regards
  10. Hi, I have installed Mandrake 10.0 and have run into a problem with Quanta, that chrashes all the time. The error message as follows: XLib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". QGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key QGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key QGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key The crash occours when I press enter to start a new line, but only in one particular file. I have tried to delete this file and create a new one, but that changes nothing. I am not sure if it is relevant or not, but several programs (Quanta, KMail, etc.) cannot be started from the menu; they have to be started from a console. In 9.1 they started OK. There might be a clue in the above error message, but I am no expert on X. Anybody else that understands the error message?
  11. Hi, Anybody that happens to have the procedure for installing Truetype font on Mandrake 10.0? [moved from Tips & Tricks by spinynorman]
  12. From where can I download Mandrake 10.0 ISOs? Please don't tell me to use BitTorrent! One of the main reasons I want to stop using Windows is the horrible online update and registration system. Now it seems Mandrake is about to fall into the same trap as MS. Why not simply put the ISOs where they can be found? I am running a web server and I do not want to share my bandwidth. Moreover, I do not trust the security of BitTorrent.
