  1. Thanks for the reply Luis. I have tried all the settings in the Configure Desktop, Screensavers with no luck. The darn thing just refuses to cooperate at all. As in the post I have changed it a dozen times. Again, Thanks
  2. Can someone tell me how to get the screen savers to work and also any tricks to change the size of the mouse pointer on MDK 10 Offical. I have searched the forums and I can't find anything related to either of these problems. I have changed the screen saver settings in the Control Panel a dozen times and can't get the screen savers to activate. I have searched for anything related to changing the mouse pointer size and I can't find anything other than change the mouse cursor theme. I don't really want any new screen savers all I want is to get what I have to work. I also don't want any new mouse cursors all I want to do is make the one I use larger. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dooley
  3. Hi Folks; I know modems have been a very well discussed subject in the forums but I would appreciate it if somone could give me a little insight as to why the modem I have installed will not work on MDK10. When I try to set up the modem in the control panel I can't get it to do anything. I can go into the control panel and set everything up the way I think it should be setup, when I try to connect I get a dialog which says the modem is not setup correctly and when I go back to the control panel the dial up connection number has the first three numbers only and when I change it again the same things happens. It is not a Winmodem and it has manual jumper settings although it is a internal ISA moden. I am at a loss, the modem works fine in Knoppix 3.3 install on the hd. Any suggestions, I sure would appreciate it. It sure seems a little silly to go and by something that works in other Linux distro. Thanks very much Dooley [moved from Hardware by spinynorman]
  4. Heh, I'd like to know what you've been led to believe. OK, here goes. I am a neeeeeewbie with Linux, I did't know anything about it, how it worked what problems one might have with it, I knew nothing. Still don't. I was led to believe Linux was the best thing since pop corn. Well, let me tell you. If things go as they have gone so far it is not the best thing since pop corn. It is the best thing since they discovered putting butter on the pop corn. Dooley
  5. 10 OE is not yet released to the public. Only to club members and those who buy from their store. As ramfree has already said, on this board we respect the wishes of Mandrakesoft. We will provide you with an answer to your question, however any posting stating a way to obtain MDK 10.0 OE aside from the Mandrakesoft approved channels (which at this point are a club member ship or the store) will be moderated. Hello; I am totally new to Linux and I guess a little confused. If I understand your post you are saying no one can get MDK 10 Off. unless they purchase it from Mandrake until the end of the month. I purchased a copy from one of the, I guess, well respected websites which has Mandrake 10 Off. four disc. set. Are you saying I don't have any rights to use it until after the end of the month. Cheers Dooley
  6. no. From memory: if CD1 does not boot, insert CD2 and then insert CD1 when asked. then type F1 key for more options and type "expert" for expert mode. Not really, expert, easy but you have more control. When it's time to set the partitions, go custom partitioning. Just create 2 partitions: / and /home (I guess your hd already have a swap partition as Knoopix is installed on the hd, you can use the same swap partition. Thats all no. In fact you are in the best forum oh, and welcome :) Thank you for your reply. I think I have missed a lot by not trying Linux before. Hopefully I can get MDK installed correctly. Hope I didn't double post as I am not to familiar with these forums and I forget to log in before I started my reply. Dooley
  7. Hello everyone, I am a newbie to this forum and also to Linux along with Mandrake. I have been intrested in Linux for sometime now and decided to take the plunge and see if this thing, called Linux, is what I have been led to believe it is. I purchased a copy of Knoppix live CD and to my total suprise it is more than I expected. OK, so much for my life history, now, to the reason for this post. I like Linux so much I have decided to use Mandrake 10 Offical as my only OS. I have Knoppix on the HD now and would like to know how to go about installing MDK on the HD. Will MDK delete Knoppix as it loads or do I need to start with a clean hard drive. If this post is in the wrong forum please tell me and I will get in the right one. Thanks a bunch for any help.
