  1. This is the software you need for linux to do the job:

    dvd-slideshow

I have used this software multiple times to display pictures on my dvd player. It is simple to do and the guy that wrote the code is very helpful if you have any problems. Really, this is what you need! :D

  2. So far so good - after two reboots no errors yet. I will repost if I run into the problem again.

Before this post I had no idea what kat was, and now that I do it seems like a really cool application. Is there another workaround for the problem besides:

    urpme kat

  3. I just installed Mandriva 2006 using kde and everything worked fine for a few days. Today, however when I logged into my account there were dozens of random .jpg, .gif and .bin files in my home directory. After rebooting and logging back in kde gives an error that:

The application KDE Daemon (kded) crashed and caused the signal 8 (SIGFPE).

I have tried to open a konsole and kill the source, but it is an infinite number of error windows popping up about every 10 seconds or so. This eats up 100% of the CPU and thus makes the computer useless. I tried logging into IceWM and the same thing. I could always install gnome but I really like KDE. Please help! :wall:

  4. I tried out xemacs and in the process had to remove emacs. I then decided to go back to emacs and now when I type:

    urpmi emacs

I now have an application called emacsclient?!? I just want emacs back...please.

    Needed to also type:

    urpmi emacs-X11

  5. I run a proftp server on my linux box at home for family and friends to access family pictures etc. The problem is that I can access my ftp server perfectly using the command line, but when I try to use a browser to access the same information I get nothing. I'm sure that there is an easy fix somewhere, I just don't know where. Any ideas?

  6. Just to give an update. I was able to determine that my F5D6020 used a Readtek rtl8180 chipset by entering my FCCID on my card here: https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/cf/eas/r...nericSearch.cfm

Then I downloaded the linux drivers for the chipset here:

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/rtl8180-sa2400

    Finally, drumroll please....It works!

This was also a nice link as well:

  7. I recently purchased this wireless network card and have verified in windows that it does in fact work.

Here is the problem, when I plug the card into my laptop nothing happens. No lights blink, the log

files do not indicate that anything has happened...nothing. With the card plugged in here is the

    output of 'cardctl ident'

    Socket 0:

    no product info available

    Socket 1:

product info: "Texas Instruments", "UltraMedia Smart Card Adapter", "1.0"

    manfid: 0x0097, 0x1620

Something else that is interesting is that lspci actually recognizes the card! Also, using harddrake

I can tell that the system does recognize the pcmcia controllers.

Finally, as I said earlier the log files do not appear to change after inserting the card. Maybe I am

looking at the wrong files but when I type 'dmesg | tail' on the command line and then insert the

card nothing changes. Any help to get me onto the next obstacle (installing the driver) would be

    greatly appreciated.

  8. It does reside on my machine, it does exist and after running the script it states that the update was successful. How reliable that is I guess is the real question.

ok, now I am completely confused. I just checked my website and it is up and running. I need to do some research to find out exactly what is going on. On my router I changed from UPnP to port forwarding (although they sound identical in the linksys descriptions)...other than that I didn't change anything else. I'll post back if I get lucky enough to pinpoint the exact problem.

Any advice on the difference between UPnP and port forwarding?

  9. More information....If I use the actual ip address then I can access my website. However if I use the domain name then nothing. I currently use dnsexit to update my ip address because I do not have a static ip - kind of cheating in that regard. I have never had trouble with it before though - they provide a perl script to update your ip every ten minutes. Does this bring anything to mind?

  10. Good idea, but it did not move it. httpd.conf.rpmnew is just some standard config file they gave, it did not mess with my httpd.conf file at all.

Something else that is noteworthy is that all of my servers are down....http - ftp and nfs?!?

I would appreciate any advice, I really need help! :help:

  11. I recently upgraded on one of my systems to the latest Fedora Core release, now my http and ftp servers don't work. I am using apache and proftpd. I can ping everything fine and I DID NOT change any of my router settings. This happened immediately after the upgrade. I tried disabling the software firewall and it did not help. It's as if the servers are never seeing the requests coming in. I am stumped and am desperately looking for ideas...please :wall::wall:

  13. Two weeks ago....

Everything was great. The sky was blue, the grass was green and my iPod worked flawlessly using gtkpod.

    Today....

Something happened, possibly a software update with unexpected effects but now I am left with an iPod that doesn't mount because it doesn't know where to mount to. All of my scripts to handle the mounting/unmounting/ejecting no longer work. First off, where did /dev/sda go? I remember hearing that in the near future it will be deprecated and replaced by udev? Anyway, in the end I just need help re-establishing how to use my iPod on linux WITHOUT /dev/sda as I think it has disappeared!

  14. I need to install linux on a windows machine, but I can not wipe the hard drive clean, repartion and then install...I must keep windows on my computer and repartion space for linux. Does that Mandrake Linux Installer do this and if not is there free open-source software that can?
