  1. The computer and the printer have been off for days. Turned everything on and still doesn't work. Went into the "Configure your Computer" window, deleted the printer, added the printer; still doesn't work. Did the 15-20 minute self diagnostic for the Epson NX-420. Tried printing a test page - test page is in the print queue and has the status of "stopped". Tried the "reprint" option, status goes from "processing" to "stopped". Very frustrating that NOTHING WORKS! Still not solved.
  2. I had to add the driver. Initially, it would not load because a "process" had locked the rpm database. I killed the process, and it loaded OK with a lot of dependencies. Still would not print properly. I tried printing the web page and got a lot of garbage on multiple pages. I thought maybe the i486 was the wrong driver. I have the 64-bit version of Mandriva 2010 loaded (sorry for not providing that information sooner). I went out to the website (http://linux.avasys/), found the x86_64 driver and loaded it. I tried printing an OpenOffice Calc page and got nothing but the printer feeding through blank pages. I double checked the suggested command and got the following: # rpm -qa epson* epson-inkjet-printer-nx420-1.0.0-1lsb3.2 Any suggestions? Alan
  3. I bought an EPSON NX420 printer. When I connected it to my USB port, Mandriva 2010 recognized it and loaded the "NX400 - Cups + Gutenprint v5.2.4" print driver. When asked to print the Test Page, I clicked OK. It printed the top part of the header which reads "Printer Test Page" and then it kept feeding page after page of paper through the printer until it ran out of paper --- no printing on those pages. I am NOT very knowledgable about LINUX. Please treat me as a newbie and lead me through any suggestions you may have. I know how to get to the command line, but again assume I know nothing. If I need to run some commands, please be specific and I'll try to provide you the results. A couple of other notes. I have NOT updated Mandriva to 2010.1. Mandriva 2010 has been working fine for me. I have Mandriva 2010 installed on a circa 2006 Sony Vaio laptop. I am dual booting with Windows XP. Thanks for your help! Alan
  4. Hi, I have been using kubuntu for over a year. Release 9.04 had too many problems for me. So, I've switched to Mandriva Power Pack 2010. I did a completely new install of Mandriva onto my Sony Vaio laptop. I also have a Windows partition. I've tried loading pdfedit using the "Install & Remove Software" routine. I get the following error --- "Installation failed. There was a problem during the installation: rpm database is locked, process 1249 is already using it (/usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/urpmi --gui-- allow-medium-change --auto-- no verify-pm --expect-install imwheel)" I have no clue what the above is telling me except that it won't install pdfedit. Please help. I'm still a newbie when it comes to using commands. If you wish me to run commands, please help me by being specific. Assume I know nothing. Thanks for the help and feedback! Alan
  5. Thank you for the quick reply. The printer works!
  6. Hi, I have been using kubuntu for over a year. Release 9.04 had too many problems for me. So, I've switched to Mandriva Power Pack 2010. I did a completely new install of Mandriva onto my Sony Vaio laptop. I also have a Windows partition. I've had no problems with the installation. Over the past year, while using kubuntu, I tried kmymoney. I could not get it to reconcile my accounts properly. I loaded GnuCash from the kubuntu repositories and it worked great for me. I've tried finding GnuCash using the "Install & Remove Software" routine. I've searched for GnuCash. I get "No results" in the results window. I believe this is different from the earlier post in that I am not updating a previous edition of Mandriva, rather this is a brand new installation. I like the KDE environment and I know that GnuCash is gnome program. GnuCash has worked for me and I've got my accounts saved currently on a flash drive. I'd like to get back to using it. Any help would be appreciated. I'm still a newbie when it comes to using commands. If you wish me to run commands, please help me by being specific. Assume I know nothing. Thanks for the help and feedback! Alan
  7. Hi! Please be patient with me. I'm a point 'n click type. I can follow directions (like posting output from the terminal), just help me out by providing me with very specific commands to type. I am still very much a newbie to this. I recently loaded Mandriva Power Pack 2010 onto a Sony Vaio laptop. Installation went OK. I then went to the "Configure your Computer" for hardware and started the process of setting up a printer. My printer was plugged in to a USB port (I have three (3). One (1) is being used by a wireless mouse). The wireless mouse is working flawlessly. The printer configuration routine recognized that I had an Epson C88 printer and appeared to load all the files. I pressed the "Print Test Page" and it is still at "Processing" in the Print Queue. The green power light is blinking on my printer, but nothing is being printed. I have tried looking through the forum to see if this has been addressed. If it has, please provide me a link. Thank you for your time and feedback. Alan
