  1. Already tried going thru the internal IP addy, still same results....
  2. Alright I have a rather perplexing situation here.... I have a computer running Mandrake (or is it ManDRIVA since it's still version 10.1? hmmmm) 10.1 as a web and mail server, and I'm having issues with my POP3 and IMAP services on it. Oh, and I have it set up thru one of those great free domain hosting services because I'm cheap, so my setup is blahblahblah.freedns.org or one of those similar. And this server sits behind my router which I have the POP3 and IMAP ports forwarded to it no problem. Whenever I try to connect to my server with my email client (and I have it set to go out to the internet and connect thru the free hostname) it takes FOREVER (like a full minute or so) for the server to respond with a POP3 type "welcome and please sign on" kind of deals. This goes for the same with IMAP, takes a bit before the inital response. NOW here's the kicker, SENDING email goes out INSTANTLY. And to verifiy that it wasn't just my email client, I also tried telneting into the server, both POP3 and IMAP, and both took a bit to respond. and when I would telnet into the SMTP server it went thru instantly. Now I just had a friend do it for me thru her telnet and she said it came up instantly for the POP3 (which means it's going to do the same for IMAP) so it has something to do with the computers behind my router and my router.... I have a Netgear Router if that will help anyone. I checked the logs, the logs dont seem to report anything out of the ordinary(unless I'm not reading the correct log) Any help on how to speed up this pop3 server response time would be appreciated... 3. Nope didn't work. Any more suggestions? What this is specifically having trouble with is the underlined characted in the menus. It displays a (!) before the underlined character after the 2nd time viewing the menu, then every time after that it adds a (!) to the listing, then eventually a (&). Would this be a problem with the Font system? My display driver? OR a bad build of the Kmenu thingy? Any thoughts? Ideas? Thanks.
  4. I saw a thread abotu this SOMEWHERE over the internet through my compiling of KDE 3.3 on Mandrake 10.0, HOWEVER it did not apply to me at that moment and I forget where I ran across it so I'm hoping someone here can help me. Like I said I installed KDE 3.3 throguh Konstruct on MDK 10. After minor tinkering I was able to get it to go through completely. Everything looks to work, however, The Menus in the KDE Start Menu are messed up. The listings display something like "(&)(&)(&)(&)(!)(!)(!)&(!)(!)Utilities" Etc, etc throughout each listing in the menu structure. HAs anyone ran across this problem? And any idea on how I can fix it? Thanks very much.
  5. In response to your original question, I had that same problem while compiling KDE 3.3.... I traced the issue back to OPENGL which I traced back to my Nvidia driver. I dont know what kind of graphics card you used but I uninstalled my old graphics driver, and then reinstalled it. THEN since the file doesn't seem to exist in that specific directory, I did a locate and found it in /usr/lib. So I just did a symbolic link for it. However I guess I should have just copied the actual file since i kept getting errors about how the file's location has moved. Oh well... things seem to be working for me....mostly. LOL. Got KDE 3.3 up and running through the Konstruct program. I'm so happy about it. First program I got to compile and it's actually working!
  6. Well the MDK 10 box is a server which I run a little webserver and email server that I use. The server resides behind a Linksys router which I have the specific ports for email and web forwarded to that specific computer.
  7. But I thought Shorewall was something completely different. I dind't htink that that was linked to the Mandrake Security Levels.
  8. Wow! It worked! Thanks! :-) Dunno why it worked int he past and not now.
  9. Okay I dont understand this. When I installed MDK10, they have a little section that says when setting up the security settings which level you want your computer set at. If you choose the level they suggest for servers, it blockes out my email ports! ARGH!. You know the standard SMTP and POP3 and IMAP ports. I think it may also block Apache but I'm not too sure on that. Can anyone tell me how to add my Postfix stuff so that Mandrake Security (MSEC) wont block it? Thanks.
  10. Can anyone help me with this, Done this a coupel times in the past no problems and now all of the sudden I'm coming up with this problem Installed MDK10 with KDE at install time. At a later time I installed Gnome. I did the little work around cause I like to log in from the command prompt, and I added the file "desktop" to the users directory. In that file I have the line "gnome-session" which tells X to start up Gnome instead of KDE3. I start up KDE great, no problems. THEN when I go to log out of Gnome and X, instead of being returned back to the command prompt, I'm sent to KDE!!! ARGH. And when I quite KDE THEN I'm sent back to the command line. Does anyone know what's going on and how I can fix this? Thanks.
  11. Oh sorry, yeah didn't understand what you meant. LOL Well I figured out the problem. For some odd reason, the MAndrake Postifx Server Wizard was not including the line in main.cf, "mynetworks = 192.168.1.1" which is my LAN's Internet Gateway. That one line was causeing my headaches. Peoples, please keep that in mind. :-) Thanks for all your help everyone. I post on this board and will continue to do so cause I know SOMEONE out there will help me with my questions. :-)
  12. Yeah I mean the SMTP server is active and all. Okay lets say I use mozilla thunderbird to send and receive my mail on both my WinXP and Mandrake linux boxes. The server is actually located on the linux box. Both have the same exact settings (they both connect through blah.blahblah.org). The email server rejects sending mail when sent from the WinXP box, but does not reject sending mail when sent from the linux box. Should I be checking hosts.allow? or something?
  13. Okay I had my email server set up in such a way for 9.2 + 10 when I did an upgrade that I would send the email through my Linux Server and then that would pass it on to my ISP's email SMTP server without a problem. The problem I'm having is residing on my Linux server not allowing me to send outside mail from a client on the network as opposed to sending the emial from the server itself (through Kmail or Evolution). The problem is NOT with my ISP's SMTP server. Any help appreciated
  14. Hey guys, just reinstalled my MDK 10 software and can't seem to get my Postfix server up and running. :-( I can receive email from the outside no problem through the server (i.e. @hotmail.com or @yahoo.com, etc..etc...) but cannot SEND to those addresses. The Syslog is reporting something about "relay denied for unknown host or something" PLEASE help. Thanks.
  15. Hey guys, I ran across this and it has me puzzled. I am running Mandrake 10, and I'm trying to boot up with the Linux Secure kernel 2.6.?. But unfortunately whenever I try to load up stuff partaining to the internet, i.e. nntp, smb, etc...etc.., I keep getting an "error while loading shared library: Libcrypto.so."something or other. Has anyone else ran across this and any solutions? Your help is appreciated. :-)
  16. Alright. Wow! Thanks for the quick response. Everything looks like it's on the default settings. Scheduled checking enabled? Any clue? Thanks.
  17. Need some help guys. I run a Postfix/SMTP server on a host name under a domain name (linux.blah.org). I do not own or run blah.org. Just linux. For some odd reason, Mandrake feels compelled to send out emails to BLAH.ORG about restarts of my webserver or Webalyzer stuff. Well because my mail server runs from linux.blah.org and not blah.org and doesn't answer to blah.org, the owner of Blah.org is not happy whenever he gets mail from my server and is asking me to fix this immediately. Unfortuantely I have NO CLUE as to which setting I would have to change. Can Anybody please help me? Thanks.
