  1. Hi there!!!

there was quite some time without visiting this site .... sorry

and i need of your assistance..

    my computer specs..

    P4 2.4Ghz

    Biostar U8668-D motherboard

    512MB spectek DDR400

    Ati 9800 PRO BBA

Mandrake 10.1 powerpack (a gift from a friend so i don't have an account to powerpack files on the net)

the thing is... i'm using the default driver ati-3.14 (accelerated from powerpack), but i want to update the ati driver..

i have downloaded the rpm file and when i try to install it it gives me an error that conflicts with the libxorg-X11-6.8.1's libGL.so.1.2 file

i have tried several approaches to this problem.. even have uninstalled libxorg-X11-6.8.1 and tried to install rpm again.. at home i dont have internet connection.. so i ask for your help... im posting this from a friend's house.. thanks to all..

    Greetings ;)

  2. you have to modify the file:

/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf (probably is somewhere else, but this address seems right to me ;)

and remove tha # from this lines:

    #Addtype application/x-httpd-php .php

    #Addtype application/x-httpd-php-source .phps

and it will look like this:

    Addtype application/x-httpd-php .php

    Addtype application/x-httpd-php-source .phps

    then save and exit

after editing that file you have to restart yor apache daemon

    /etc/httpd/bin/apachectl stop

    /etc/httpd/bin/apachectl start

apachectl may be at another location, be careful on that..

    hope this helps you ;)

  3. What a sweet operating system, I love the attention to detail, things like the fact that PDF files can be read right off the bat without hassle, and I can read my NTSF and FAT32 partitions, it's brilliant. At this point, the only drawback is the fact that I have trouble playing Windows Media files but I am sure there's a way to fix that. Thanks again for the help, happy to be part of this great family.

perhaps you should install win32-codecs-1.6-3plf.i586.rpm from plf, you can add plf as source with this line: (this is just an example you can choose from several servers at this link with easyurpmi:

    urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.free.fr/pub/Distributions_Linux/plf/mandrake/10.0 with hdlist.cz

at the comand line as root...

those codecs have all windows codecs.. and have it and doesn't have any problem with my wmv files :D

    Bye ;)

  4. have you tried diskdrake??? with this you can modify your partitions... as root obviously, because the partition must be unmounted to resize, then reboot to install windows XP, after you have installed windows XP, start with your CD1 from MDk, and repair your boot loader, restart to enter linux, modify your boot loader to include windows, load it into MBR, and the next restart you have windows at your menu :D

    and enjoy linux and windows

    greetings ;)

  5. perhaps you have to create a file named .asoundrc at your home dir..

    with this in it :

            pcm.emu10k1 {
              type hw
              card 0
           }

           ctl.emu10k1 {
              type hw
              card 0
           }

i hope this would help you..and maybe you should comment the lines for that other sound card.. fpr ypur modprobe.conf

    # alias sound-slot-1 es1371

    alias eth0 3c59x

    alias sound-slot-0 snd-emu10k1

    install snd-emu10k1 /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install snd-emu10k1 && { /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss; /bin/true; }

    install usb-interface /sbin/modprobe usb-uhci; /bin/true

    remove snd-emu10k1 { /sbin/modprobe -r snd-pcm-oss; } ; /sbin/modprobe -r --first-time --ignore-remove snd-emu10k1

  6. I like to boot Linux from the Windows NTLDR,  but subsequently found that the only way I could get Mandrake up again was to boot the install disks, do an 'upgrade', and when it got to the part about configuring the boot loader, I installed LILO into the MBR of hda. After this I was able to boot Mandrake. Hurrah.

next time it happens, just put your CD1 from MDK and press F1, then write rescue and it should appear a menu with several options, one of them is "Repair Boot loader" or something like it..

My first question is, what does XP install do to either the partitions or MBR to cause this to happen?

windows just step on the MBR, perhaps windows has an error while doing that, so there should be produced that error... another way to solve it (but it does not restore lilo) is to start your PC with a windows boot disk and in the command line write:

fdisk /mbr (this should erase your MBR and load your active partition bootable)

My second question is, I have a small partition left over on my drive which was the left-over from the ruins of an attempted partition creation using Diskdrake under Mandy 10 CE. I suspect this might have something to do with the L99 boot  problem I had. If I use a partition manager to integrate this small partition into a larger partition, how will this affect my Mandrake installation (on hdb8). Will I have to reinstall?

while your /, swap and other partitions doesnt change it's numbers (i.e hdb8) there shouldn't be any problem

    Greetings..

P.S.: if there is any mistake please be so kind to correct me ;)

  7. to check if your card have the acceleration active.. use on a console inside X (kde for example)

    and use glxgears..

this should give you more than 1000fps (i have a gf2mx400 64 MB SDram and have about 1200 fps..)

    bye :D

  8. Hi,

did you check your XF86config to see if the driver is loaded correctly??

or run fglrxconfig again to reconfigure your video driver ;)

i check on the ati web page and found this:

Otherwise, if fglrxinfo indicates that MESA Indirect (software) Rendering is being used, then you may want to repeat the steps listed above, while paying careful attention to the following:

Any error messages during install (see below)

    All answers given during fglrxconfig

or did you restart your x server or your computer?? perhaps that's the next thing to do...

    hope this help you ;)

  9. perhaps you have to partition your SCSI disk..

to know if your linux detect your SCSI disk, on a console write this:

    fdisk -l

this will list all partitions and drives on your system, even if there is no partition created yet..

i'm serching for more information on your SCSi adapter, because i don't have one ;)

    Bye

  10. failed.

*** Error: no kernel module build environment - please consult readme.

    *** Warning ***

The QT based control panel application did not load in any version.

    ===

    ATI display drivers successfully installed

    please run 'fglrxconfig' now

    ===

this error have an explanation from ATI here

    ATI problem Solution

in short, this error comes because you haven't installed your kernel source yet...

to install your kernel source on a console type:

urpmi kernel-source-2.6.3.7mdk (if that is your kernel version, to know your ernel version o a console type uname -a) or

    urpmi kernel-source

bye, i hope this help you..

    ;)

  11. Beforehand, I made a backup of console.perms, of which I can't revert back to because even as root, it won't let me overwrite (saying it's read only). [moved from Software by spinynorman]

my opinion, others may think different ;)

i only have lilo, so i can't tell you how to do it whit another boot loader

at the boot loader screen press ESC

the at the ":" write single linux, being linux your name for linux, in my case it would be linux or 267-ck5

    then press Return

it should start your linux on maintenance mode, there you can modify your console perms, if you can't do this, use the mounting command line given by devries.. if you have another error message from missing type, write this..

    mount -t auto /dev/hdX /mnt/hdX, or

mount -t filesystem /dev/hdX /mnt/hdX, where filesystem could be ext2, ext3, xfs, reiserfs, etc..

i hope this could be of help ;)

  12. on a root console write this:

    vi /etc/fstab

go to the end of the file, press i (to insert text)

go to the end of the line and press return

    the write this:

    /dev/hdxx /mnt/windows ntfs defaults,user 1 2 # for an ntfs partition

    /dev/hdxx /mnt/windows vfat defaults,user 1 2 # for an fat32 partition

(those 2 last numbers, i'm not aware what they ment, i'm searching the web toi find out...)

    then press ESC key

then :wq <-- this tells vi to:

    : <-- here comes a coomand

    w <-- write this file

q <-- quit from this file

now you'll have your windows partition everytime you boot :D

i hope this will be clear enough

  13. Hi there, i have a similar problem, but it was corrupt data on the hard drive (the windows partition have that problem), a friend fixed it with partition magic.

perhaps you have a similar problem...after fixing the windows partition it mounted every boot.

another option is that, if you have created a new partition the windows partition maybe have changed its number i.e: before hda3 after hda2, it's just a thought

i hope my experience help you a little, i don't know how to fix those kind of problems from linux, i'm not a very advanced user just a basic one ;)

i just mounted it as root

    mount /dev/hdxx /mnt/windows

    in conlole as root

there could be an error from missing the type...if you have this error on your NTFS partition, write this:

    mount -t NTFS /dev/hdxx /mnt/windows, or

    mount -t auto /dev/hdxx /mnt/windows

    Greetings ;)

P.S.: perhaps you clould post your fstab besides a "fdisk -l" to see if we can help you more ;)

  14. i made it :D :D :D :D :D

i recompile mplayer with this options (from source CVS version and stable version) --enable-gui --disable-ossaudio and works everytime and i don't have the error message anymore

    thanks to everyone :D

P.S.: to rebuild a src.rpm is there a way to add command line options, like those options I set to source for Mplayer??, that's because i don't have to battle with dependencies with future packages by compiling some software by source.

  15. Try linking /dev/sound/mixer to /dev/mixer (ln -s  etcetc). /Dev/mixer is just a link on my install.

    Good luck.

i already did that (i didn't mention it before, sorry)

    and then a i applied a chmod a+rw /dev/mixer (after ln -s /dev/dound/mixer /dev/mixer)

    thanks for your comment

  16. Hello everyone

i have a genius 4.1 value card, wich have a c-media 8738 chip on it, mandrake load the module snd-cmipci successfully, but when i want to watch a movie with mplayer, it gives me the error that says:

error /dev/mixer connot be opener; perhaps the file doesn't exists (or something very much alike)

y have searched the dev/directory and there is a mixer linked to /dev/sound/mixer

i have even installed the new version of alsa-driver (1.0.6a) and have run the script ./snddevices

    but it still doesn't work.

now i have my computer computer compiling a new kernel from source 2.6.7-13mdk and patched it with new version driver/include from alsa.project.org

anyone have any idea of what can i do??? if this compiling doesn't work i don't know what to do next...

I'm using Mandrake 10 Official (4 disc version)

all of this begun when i have switched Motherboard, now i have a p3 with an ASUS TUSL2-C, i used to have a k6-2 450. i have reinstalled mandrake to not have any problems, i don't have any except this from sound... besides with the mobo switch i have switched sound cards.. i used ti have a SB64 AWE Gold

any tip would be very much appreciated

    :D :D
