    Bloody ATI Card

Sorry about that... you will also need to install dkms-ati-8.28.8-3plf2007.0 If your using 2007, but it looks like your trying to install a 2006 package? Are you using Mandriva 2006?
  2. You could give this a try: www.mcnlive.org.

Well, I've just read your post and you haven't even responded to members trying to help you? we need to know 32bit or 64bit? which version of OS? have you tried to use the easy-urpmi at the top of this page or here?: https://mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php if not, add the plf repos, and use your software installer or urpmi to install: ati-8.28.8-plf2007.0 I'm not trying to piss you off, I'm trying to help you help yourself. :) You will not find it any easier to make nvidia work then your ati card using the plf repos!
  4. Best Data works... here's some cheap used ones: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=56...ULK&cat=MDM I have no connection with that company. I was looking for a picture and googled that.
  5. answer: http://club.mandriva.com/xwiki/bin/view/KB/BasicsBrpm#What Yes you can install packages not available from Mandriva, e.g. Adobe flash, Sun java, Adobe reader. You can compile from source 'almost' anything you have located the source code to use. You can compile from the source code that 'you' have made... or maybe you will make eventually. :)
  6. Do you mean you could not enter the interactive booting mode? Did you press 'and hold' for a bit the 'i' key when the boot starts?
  7. When you install your new Mandriva 2007 system, be sure and mark the development and documentation packages for install when you get to the software selection. Some more documentation for your library: http://tldp.org/
  8. r.singh- Read neddie's post carefully... I agree with him Sorry, that 'was' a typo (I,ll fix it) in a quick incomplete list done from memory. Here are some links to help you along the way. Here is the Mandriva documentation: http://club.mandriva.com/xwiki/bin/view/KB/BasicsIndex Here is the Mandriva documentation on compiling source code: http://club.mandriva.com/xwiki/bin/view/KB...sBsource#Source
  9. If this is the first (no offense intended) application that you have tried to compile... you have picked a rather difficult one. :) I have taken a quick look at it for you, and it will require you have installed: gcc gcc-cpp libgcc automake autoconf gettext libtool libtool-base 'libusb' and 'libusb-devel' of the same version (ver. >= 0.1.6a) and some others that I can't think of at this time you must then compile and install libgphoto before you compile and install gphoto. Now you would have to try to compile and install 'libdigikam' and 'digikam' which will present a new set of problems with KDE frontend libraries (your 9.1 libs will be older). I'm not saying that you can't do this, it simply will not be easy to do. I can't offer much help because I don't have Mandrake 9.1 installed to look at for you. If you do try to compile this and have problems, you can find a config.log in your working directory to show you messages produced by compilers while running configure. Good luck and welcome to the MUB

  11. I'm not familiar with your camera... but with many models you must set your camera's 'USB Connect' to 'PTP', not the 'Normal' setting. You may want to try using digiKam, it seems to work better for me. I also agree that you may still need a newer version of Mandriva for it to work properly? IIRC, I had problems with my camera using Mandrake 9.1?
  12. Yes, but upstream from your ducks :)
  13. My laptop... I keep it simple for more battery time.
  14. The easy way to do this is to make sure you have installed the bootsplash and bootsplash-themes packages. Open mcc > boot > select the graphical theme of the system while booting > theme
  15. I don't use it because it's a resource hog, but I checked out compiz and it worked ok on my 'very old' Geforce4 Ti4200 with Xgl. I should add that I'm using nvidia-8774-4plf2007.0 and dkms-nvidia-8774-4plf2007.0
  16. They are in the ftp.easynet.fr/plf/mandriva/2007.0/non-free for 32-bit, but they may not be in the easynet.fr for 64-bit?
  17. You would be better off using a more recent version of Mandriva. It would make this easier to do, and it would work better with the newer kernel... If you still want to use Mandrake 05 LE - Make sure your using the proper driver: The Belkin F5D7011 uses the bcmwl5.inf driver The Belkin F5D7011ef uses the bcmwl5a.inf driver Since you have an older version of Mandrake (with an older kernel) you should use a more recent version of ndiswrapper. The latest stable version is 1.37 and can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=93482 You should also use the instructions from here: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/mediawi...hp/Installation This will appear to be very complicated to a Linux newbie, but just follow the instructions carefully and you should be ok. :)
  18. If you have not already done so... use the easy-urpmi that is linked at the top of this page and add the plf repositories. Open your gui software installer or use the terminal with urpmi and install: mplayer1.0-1.pre8.13plf2007.0 win32-codecs-1.8-1plf2007.0 real-codecs-1.2.3plf mplayerplugin-3.25-2mdv2007.0
  19. Yes, just add the proper repositories to your /etc/apt/sources.list Open the 'Synaptic Package Manager', or apt-get install what ever you need.
  20. I just upgraded my AdobeReader with the AdobeReader_enu-7.0.9-1.i386.rpm. When I tried to open it with the terminal I had an infinite loop of "expr: syntax error" I've found the fix (hack) for your (our) problem, or anyone with this problem using Mandriva 2007. Using your favorite editor open: /usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat7.0/bin/acroread find this section: get_gtk_file_ver() and change this line from: echo $mfile| sed 's/libgtk-x11-\([0-9]*\).0.so.0.\([0-9]\)00.\([0-9]*\)\|\(.*\)/\1\2\3/g' to echo $mfile| sed 's/libgtk-x11-\([0-9]*\).0.so.0.\([0-9]*\)00.\([0-9]*\)\|\(.*\)/\1\2\3/g' Open your new reader and enjoy. Please note that this does not seem to be a problem with Debian, or my Xubuntu systems.
  21. Thanks for catching that... I knew Adobe was not open source (me hides face in shame) I guess it was too early in the morning for me.
  22. Perhaps you meant Ford vs Chrysler? GM==Chevy :)
  23. If you saved the directory you compiled it in... cd to that directory, and as root do: make uninstall
