  1. Dear all, I am an enthusiastic MDKLinux user, and my box is running currently MDK 10.1 OE with KDE. I use the italian keyboard, but for the rest I stay with the default english version. However, when I run GIMP 2.0 the decimal point is set to "," (italian version) and not to ".". I checked some environment variables, and some of these are: > echo $LC_NUMERIC it_IT > echo $LC_NAME it_IT > echo $LANG en_US If I set both LC_NUMERIC and LC_NAME to en_US (and put on .bashrc), thebashrcn GIMP from the terminal shell the decimal point used is ".", but this is not the case if GIMP is run from the KDE menu. Do you have any idea what should I fix to have simply the en_US definition for all but the keyboard? Thanks, Luca

    creating SVCD

Dear all, I have tried hard to create a SVCD from an avi file but with no success. No programs, scripts (such as that provided with mplayer), etc. I have used worked for (cause of) me. If someone has successfully tried to create a SVCD and would like to share his/her experience with me I'll be very happy. Thanks. Luca
  3. magicdev is running, but it does not auto mounts cdroms. I can see magicdev through > ps -u <user> so I killed it, but the pen drive still autmounts. Luca
  4. hotplug is already in the kernel and the service is now enabled. Reboot but the behavior does not change Actually, I expected this because last night I checked on my laptop with MDK 10 CE, which works as I like, and the hotplug service is not enabled. If I understood, once supermount is not in the fstab file, why is automounting the device? There is another program responsible for this? Have you any other hint? Luca
  5. Dear all, I would like to disable supermount in MDK 10.0 OE since I prefer to mount CD-ROM, FLOPPY, USB pen drive, etc. The following steps, taken from a message in this forum, worked on MDK 10 CE. The steps are: 1) > supermount -i disable 2) edit the file /etc/fstab which now is the following: none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0 /dev/hde8 /home ext3 defaults 1 2 /dev/hde5 /mnt/windows vfat umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,gid=501,uid=501,codepage =850 0 0 /dev/hde1 /mnt/windowsxp ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hde7 swap swap defaults 0 0 # DVD /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,ro ,exec 0 0 # CD-RW /dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom2 auto user,noauto,ro,unhide,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0 0 0 # FLOPPY /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto user,noauto,rw,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0 0 0 # USB 2.0 pen drive /dev/sda1 /mnt/jetflash auto user,noauto,rw,noexec,dev,suid,iocharset=iso8859-1, umask=0 0 0 3) restart the system. Now CD, DVD and floppy works as expected. Unfortunately USB pen drive does not. As I plug-in the pen the device is mounted on /mnt/memory_card with the same device I have defined in /etc/fstab for /mnt/jetflash. How can avoid this device to be automatically mounted? By the way, it is possible to change device icons and names which appear on the KDE desktop? Thanks, Luca
  6. Dear all, with the Epson C64 printer (and more...) the new gimp-print-4-2-7.pre1 is required for a fully working printing. Does someone knows if an RPM is available for MDK 10 ? Due to my limitations (both on hardware and on personal knowledge) it will be hard for me to compile the tarball available at sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print. Thanks. Luca
  7. ciao, and thanks for your reply. It didn't waste my time. I fully agree with your opinions, even the "windows relic" behavior for copying and pasting using the keyboard. Above all, it is the last reminiscent of the past :-)) but also we should agree that it is quite comfortable if you use a laptop and keep often your hands on the keyboard... Luca
  8. I would like to use ctrl-v to paste a text from the clipboard to a KDE (3.2) shell. I have assigned the shortcut but it doesn't seem to work. I know I couldl use the mouse (as actually I'm doing now) but I would prefer to use the keyboard. Any suggestions? Thanks. Luca
  9. I installed the updated version of harddrake (and corresponding dependencies) but it does not seem to solve the problem. There are some other RPMs that should I update ? Luca
  10. Thanks for your reply. Can you provide me a site from which to download updates for MDK 10? I have tried a couple of mirrors but both seems to have no rpms available. Luca
  11. Dear all Mandrake users, I installed the new MDK 10.0 CE and all seem to be ok. But, when I put my PCMCIA some strange behavior appears. At boot pcmcia service starts and harddrake recognizes the PC card (using the driver pcnet_cs and assigning to the eth0) and the network is activated. All works fine. When I reboot the system, the eth0 device is removed and the network does not work. But if I reboot again then the device eth0 is again configured (it remembers my previous settings) and the network works again. And so on... Sorry if it is not enough clear, I'm just a newbie of Linux (but all worked ok with MDK 9.0 and 9.1). Does someone have any ideas of what's going on? Thanks, Luca
