Just to check, you are using mousedrake to configure the mouse right?

Have to admit I've never dual-booted linux distros. Is there any advice from my fellow propeller heads? Can the different distros share a swap partitions? Can they share a /home partition?
-
Actually I have both sides of my brain *honest* This may be an RC but as far as I'm concerned its beta and rc is just a label. I don't mean that as a critisism toward Mandrake, but to imply its still development software. I still recommend you leave your old system alone and if you can install RC1 in its own partitions or wait until later. Unless you do want to simply go to RC1 and spend time figuring out why things don't work. Nothing wrong with that :)
-
I disagree, I would not upgrade to 9.1 rc1 unless your intent is to help with development. I would install a second copy and leave your original alone so you can continue working day to day. I don't think the release is stable enough for day to day work. I'me having too many minor issues and downright crashes or whatnot. E.g. Can't get sylpheed going. Can't recompile the NVIDIA drivers (different gcc), so on..

Cable.. its currently not responding either (bugzilla). Can't get the main page. Think something is just up.. www.mandrake.org works fine though.
-
I sent bugzilla an email to make sure they are getting feedback on it. If you depend on your QA system to obtain bug reports, you can't have large lags like this. My current bug report has been sitting there for over 5 minutes unprocessed.. This isn't a patience problem as it is a process problem.
-
I wish this bugzilla would work a little quicker. I'm waiting around for minutes before I can submit a bug report, or look for a bug, what not.. How many bugs are going unreported because people are going "screw it" due to long lags?

Traditionally, it has been better to do a clean install rather than an upgrade. So I would follow anon's advice and 1. Backup (if you can). You can use drakebackup or partimage. The idea is that you want to restore it. Or, Backup just important files such as scripts, user folders, /etc directory, what not.. I did this and tar.gz what I wanted to save. The idea is that you will manually restore everything that you want. Eg Desktop image. I don't recommend you fully restore an user folder and just start using it. You can try but no idea if any errors you have will be due to 9.1 or due to not upgrading normally. 2. Do the upgrade or clean install. There is no longer an expert install mode, but when you get to the partitioning screen, you can still select custom partitioning if you want to. 3. In the event that the results don't work for you, you can restore your backup or try again with a different method.

So probably I shouldn't do cooker since I'm not actively involved in the development/coding. I've already added about 3-4 bugs to the database. New one this morning. My xscreensaver had some crash bug and after moving the mouse went back to the desktop. But I couldn't start AIM or Opera afterwards until I restarted the X Server. They have a bit of work to do yet..
-
Now that I have this installed, should I keep updating through cooker? Is this the idea? If so, I've read the www.mandrake.com page on cooker but am not really getting how to do this. Where can I get a list of cooker sites? My brain must be dead!
-
You didn't by any chance set your security level to High or Highest did you? If you did, set it down a level and try again.. You should be able to change this in the Mandrake Control Center..

. I've lost my internet connection and gnome died (although i can't see what difference it made :) ) There is a bug in zeroconf ( new network tool ) just play around in drakconnect, and it should work for you, might have to reboot. For recent rc1 news, http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/91beta.php3

Thanks for the sound tip. Regarding my NVIDIA 256, if I open harddrake2 and check the video, it says GeForce 256. Does that mean I don't have to do the NVidia kernel update?

Think you are talking about this thread.. http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...mozilla+mplayer

Anon, just burned the Cd's today *speaking nervously and sweating at the armpits*

You need to use an ftp program. Try this.. In a console, type ftp and then >open ftp.yourserver.com >user enter your username enter your password >cd /httpdocs (depends on where your webserver is located) >put yourdoc.html Or you can look for any number of ftp programs that have a graphical interface. Little easier to use. But basically if you want ot put and get files from your ftp site, then you need an username / password.

Interesting... hopefully this will help someone else who has this problem someday..

Fixed it.. I uninstalled mysql, reinstalled it with urpmi and after reboot it works. My problems all started when I used webmin to turn off some startup services and then decided to start using mysql again... whatever, time for 9.1 anyways :)
-
attempting to run mysql gets the following message: Can't connect to local MYSQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' When i try chkconfig --add mysql it states "service mysql does not support chkconfig".. I managed to get this working before hmmmm what did I do?
-
So his problem is not the mysql.sock can't be found, its that he hasn't started mysql period.. OIC, so the apache/php script tries to connect and the resulting message can't find mysql.sock. This is the same problem I have had. Let's see if I can fix it now :)

Anon, just out of curiousity, what prompt you to start this thread? Did you see an article somewhere?

Another solution is to unplug your mandrake drive, install windows, reconnect mandrake and do a bios reset to defaults (so mandrake is back to being the boot and then up date your lilo.conf to find the windows partition.. I think this will work..
