  1. does your screen get real messy if you switch from X to text console and back to X? :(
  2. If only I had internet at home I would do it straight away :) Mind giving me a link to RPM that is required?
  3. my god, you were running 2.6 and didn't know? ;) good job anyway, don't worry about feeling little silly at first, I spend first 3 months drowning in new information back in 1996. mind you I didn't have internet back then to get help from :)
  4. post the following outputs: ls -lag /usr/src/ maybe your sources are in /usr/src/linux-2.4xxxx/ and there's no symbolic link to /usr/src/linux also give me the full name of your driver RPM. also try installing all development packages. automake, autoconf might be needed.

    ATI cards

All these people with Radeon... Do you get garbled display when switch from Xwindows to console and back? :(
  6. i am using version directly from Mandrake 10 cd. hasn't software included on cds been tested or something??? :/
  7. problem is still here. everything is unmuted. sound is playing through xmms, totem, frozen-bubble. but not in kde (sound events) nor in chromium. I looked at the page about dmixplugin, that's how I configured dmix originally.
  8. pjlehtim: can you NOT run make.sh, but try to do "rpm -Uvh --force" on RPM you've downloaded? I have never had to manually run make.sh When everything is configured and ready to go, it would be done automatically as part of RPM process, AFAIR. and it was only 4 days ago that I did it.
  9. I run Mandrake 10 with Radeon 9800 Pro accelerated drivers (latest official from ati). When I switch between X and virtual consoles, upon return to Xwindows I get screen full of garbage, hence the title of this thread. Is this a known problem with Mandrake or did I do something wrong? Can this problem be prevented or worked around? (Apart from not switching to console during X session?) hehe I know there's a lot of people with Radeons and working drivers, so don't be shy, tell me if you have garbage on the screen :)
  10. I got dmix working in KDE for my intel 8x0 card. Wonderful, everything is playing at the same time and I'd be happy completely, except. I have no sounds in KDE, as in no start up sound, no end sound no sounds for windows going up and down. In "Configure Desktop", in sound system I have selected ALSA - no go, i've also tried Threaded OSS, still no good. Funnily enough, I can play Test sound properly. But no other sounds come out of KDE. Even when I try to set notify's, pressing preview sound does nothing. No sound whatsoever. It's possible that I screwed something up and it works for somebody else. I'd like to know why it doesn't work for me. If somebody needs help with dmix and alsa, I can help :)
  11. *** Error: no kernel module build environment - please consult readme. explains a lot. it looks like you don't have kernel sources installed. go into Install Software and install kernel sources. also make sure you have gcc installed as well. after that try again. make sure you run all this from level 3 (in console type "init 3" and after install is finished come back to "init 5"). Hope that helps.
  12. Well, title says it all really. When quanta is running, as soon as I click on "Bookmarks" menu item, it crashes. Same happens if I use shortcut. In strace it looked like it tried to close some file about 1000 times. Has anyone else made this discovery? ;)
  13. I had no problem installing official 3.7 drivers from ATI and now my Radeon9800Pro works. As long as you don't change to consoles with CTRL ALT F1 and back. My display is always messed up when I do that. Funnily, it works fine in Knoppix (hd install).
