  1. Yes 2x, but though I did specify "for me" I failed to mention that this observation is against the default install of 8.1 with kernel-2.4.8-26mdk b4 all optimizations. Point being, I didn't have to do anything to the 2.5 which was very nice, it just wasn't stable.
  2. I didn't notice as much of an increase as anon, maybe 2x for me. I never looked into why. I don't keep up with kernel devel as much as I should or would like. I only have 1 PC, and I've done alot more risky things to it than a little ol' kernel

    usb modem

All I can say is that I've seen post from people having usbmodem problems, but hardly ever see External Serial Modem probs. I just got this USRoboticsPCI5610B (clearance at Walmart $50 US normally $80 US), which is nice. The driver is built into the kernel so you just plug it in and go :) It's controller based with its own cpu.
  4. I tried the 2.5 myself, but had so many probs I just didn't want to deal with it. Lets hope they can fix everything and keep the speeeeed....
  5. Absolutely! But I'm thankful I have a very good local ISP that's only 14.95 mth to mth :) 56k dialup sucks!!!! I was 2/3 through the first cd 9.0rc3 Sept 23rd and the mirror went down for a couple hrs, to come back up without the 9.0rc3's That's what I get....Uh.
  6. What cards? What does your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 look like? Look and see what errors are in /var/log/XFree86.x.log > where x is usually 0 or 9 > (whichever is being used). Also, what drivers? stock/CD or did you get them from somewhere else?

    squeak squeak

I can't give you a specific answer, but I read last week about a laptop and a touch pad that said you config the touch pad as a mouse. I have a usb and ps/2 mouse going at the same time????? Probably doesn't help much but it's all I know.
  8. They still say 9.0rc3. Look for a mirror that the date says 9-23/9-24 that the iso was added/updated. Everyone says this is how mdk does it, and expects an announcement soon, maybe for the weekend. At which point they'll change the name of the iso. Sceptical? Well, many that have dnloaded and installed the 9-23's/9-24's, arent having the probs that rc3 had :!: :?: :!: :?: If you wait, it'll be slow, IF you get in.

    Serial Modem

Is defaultroute in your /etc/ppp/options? Open a terminal and type man route There should be a few choices for you there. There's a way to set the default, and I think if you /sbin/route del default and then add defaultroute to /etc/ppp/options and crank up the modem, it should do it. If not then the eth0 is in a startup script somewhere, would be my guess. You could also try to add /sbin/route del default to a startup script like /etc/rc.d/rc.local?? There's probably a place for the net script stuff, or use linuxconf to set the default. Just some ideas?? I don't use ethernet, it's not even in my kernel.
  10. I dk??? It's clean? Kinda reminds me of a cross between IceWM and KDE.

I have the same js. The driver is adi which requires gameport In order for it to work (and work well it does) for me, these mods have to be loaded adi gameport joydev input hid which probably means usb-uhci or one of it's relatives will also need to be loaded as well, but I not sure concerning the js. I have them in /etc/modules to load at boot.
