is the sound coming from your speakers, or from the computer tower itself (internal speaker)?
the built-in speakers

fresh install of mandriva 2009 on an asus eee pc 900 - file open dialog box still gives me sounds. All sounds have been turned off in Configure Your Desktop --> Notifications yet when an open file dialog pops up I get a system sound and also when I select a file in the same dialog. How do I get rid of this?

Hi all...
I'm having a bit of a strange problem.
Laptop running 2009. wireless interface is a broadcom 4318 using ndiswrapper
I can connect to sites with http well enough, but https the connection stalls and eventually times out. Not able to connect to ftp sites or ssh servers - connection seems to just stall out. Same goes for connecting to IRC
IPV6 is disabled per the errata
firewall is off
security level is standard
any ideas?

Does a file /etc/at.allow exist and have your name in it? the at.allow and at.deny files can be used to lock down access to at
no, /etc/at.allow does not exist /etc/at.deny does exist and is an empty file - according to the man page this should allow access to all users

title pretty much says it all....google search confirms that the autohide option didn't make the latest release....but there are some vague references to editing ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc but I haven't been able to find a howto on the topic....anybody know how to autohide the thing?

So...did an upgrade from 2008.1 to 2009 - it was pretty much a disaster but no sense going into that....
main issue is that with the removal of the laptop specific kernel from 2009 - the desktop kernel didn't work so well. First, the graphical init stuff didn't work, but not a big deal, I could live with it. More importantly are two issues that I would like to resolve if anyone knows how.
1) touchpad scrolling didn't work at all with the desktop kernel - root cause was the ol' "can't access shared memory" problem
2) amarok wouldn't play - no idea what that was all about, it would load music just fine and the sound system worked just fine (mpg123 for example would play mp3s ) -
I simply booted to a previously working kernel and everything seems to be working. Surely there's more that's broken with the new desktop kernel, and I guess I could get the kernel source and compile my own - man, it's been a long time since I've had to do that to make things work. bring back the laptop kernel!
notification sounds won't go away
