Hi, i'm wondering about eggdrops security....Does anyone know if there are exploits for eggdrop irc bots, also any ways they can be attacked? If you care to explain, please do. We're trying to set them up in our channel but don't want to leave them as the only means if they won't be stable to hold ops. Thanks!

Ok I think I figured this out.. if i586 means pentium or above and thats what Mandrake is designed for? .. Is that what it means then if they list it in i586 on linuxiso.org that Mandrake is designed for a Pentium and above. So if you were going to install linux on a system like 75mhz you would probably want to go with i386 software? Is that a proper conclusion and if so does this mean i386 software will work fine on a Pentium or above thus also being i586? Am I confused?

Well I will be downloading them off a Windows Xp box. If you have any links of where to get the iso files that would help. And what do you mean by using md5 sum? But i'll be downloading it on an xp box and i'm not sure what program he uses to burn things but i understood the burn it as an img iso file or whatever.

Hah you read this my scheme worked.. j/k I have never had the connection to download an OS or anything but I still am on mandrake 8.1 and my brother will let me use his DSL connection well his box to download a newer version of mandrake. What do I need to do? I know you have to download iso files or something then burn them and make a cd bootable etc. etc. but how do I do all this.. Can someone list the steps for me to go through.. I want to download it, burn it to cds, do whatever i have to do to the cds, then I can handle the install. Let me know, thanks. I'm just scared being on 8.1 that i'm at a security threat big time, and i'm tired of all the bugs and i want kde 3.0. I don't have the money to order these things all the time like every time a new version comes out.. Thanks.

Ok got it working for some reason that tutorial didn't actually explain fully. It shows how to do it mapping 3 buttons. Even though i chose a standard mouse on install i had to map 5 and after playing around and getting angry i managed to use xmodmap -e "pointer = 3 2 1 4 5" and that worked to switch it correctly. Ok I'm not too familiar and its been 6months since I've had my own computer. Long story. Anyways I'm basically back to square one I haven't really lost the limited amount of knowledge nor gained more linux wise. So with that said here is the problem: I can browse the web fine, etc. Connect to other irc servers via their dns name yet one of them irc.hexzero.com gives me this error yet I can connect to it via the ip. And it worked 3 hours earlier when I had win98 SE on this box. Also it works for other people. What advantages of using Kyli3x or whatever its called (Borlands C Compiler) do you have over just using a basic text editor and then compiliing? Like vi or pico or emacs..

Oh ya, no point in using it as any kind of server because there is only 56k out here.

I want it to basically server as another workstation because I don't need a firewall or anything and that sounds to complicated for me regardless. I might try fluxbox or something too. I need some of the graphical tools regardless of what distro because i don't know enough about the konsole to maintain and fix the quirks in a machine just plain via konsole even though I can get around ok that way.

Would mandrake be ideal for a pentium 166mhz or is there another version or linux more suited for that.

i think they should take longer before releasing new versions, because they're always filled with bugs and a new one comes out 1 month later making the other obsolete. So people who are on dialup like me and don't have the ability to download .iso images have to spend money somewhere cheapbytes, mandrake themselves, or wal mart or somewhere else and buy the software when its all buggedup then to have another one come out like i said one month later it just sucks and wastes our money. Thats why I currently have red hat 7.3 because i didn't want to spend any on 8.2 after i had just bought 8.1 and stuff like that even though Mandrake is still my fav distro.
