  1. Well being a developer is out of the question since I don't know anything about coding. But I did get some good suggestions. Here's a problem I just discovered. When I boot into Mandriva I'm getting a couple of error messages at boot. Something about ivp6 tunnering and ivp4 tunneling. It's not causing any problems but when I look at the logs most of them are empty. I need the exact message so I can research. Where else can I look?
  2. Ok, spiny suggested that I move this to Everything Linux so I'm going to move it there.
  3. Stage 1 installs of Gentoo aren't challenging anymore. And like I said, no LFS. I just hated that install. I don't plan on installing anything that will replace Gentoo. I just want to install, learn how to use it and then maybe replace it with something else. Okay, tell me more about BSD as I know nothing about it.
  4. If it was easy then i'll just get bored with it.
  5. Ok, I have three distros installed now and I've become rather bored. I switched to Debian to get my wireless working on the lappy because no matter what I tried in Mandriva (and I got lots of suggestions) it just wouldn't work consistently. It was quite a challenge to get it working in Debian and I certainly learned a lot to get a stable connection! I even had to manually configure dhcp! :o Problem solved. Gentoo is working like a dream. No problems there. I just installed Mandriva 2007.1 and except for a problem I learned how to fix with the kde menu there's nothing left to do except wait for updates when it's on the mirrors. So . . . I have one spare partition and lots of time. Any ideas as to what I could put on it that would be challenging yet fun? Come on, let's hear some ideas. Nothing easy though. Too boring. And no, I won't do lfs again. Ick!
  6. Ok, now that I restored it to the default I can find the tool. Thanks guys!
  7. I agree about k3b. One thing I don't understand is why Mandriva removed the menu updating tool. It comes in very handy because it scans for apps that aren't on the menu and then you just check the one you want to add and it adds it.
  8. Thanks Ix. I'll check into that.
  9. They haven't done anything new with the KDE menus. Mandriva has always screwed them up. Other distros that I use have the default KDE way and it's just so much better. It's set up where it's easier to understand. Mandriva choses to put software in weird categories so it's harder to find. I'm just baffled with why they do it.
  10. Well I installed 2007.1. I haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet. I'll wait until the easy-urpmi mirrors are set up but once again I am very disappointed with kde. They continue to ruin it by changing up the menu. If only they would leave it as the default. It's so much better.
  11. I don't know how you can say it still works. It never worked reliably for me with two different versions of Mandriva.
  12. Most commands will work with all distros but some are distros specific. Don't hesitate to ask if you get stumped trying to use a command because of this. I use three distros and sometimes it gets confusing. :)
  13. Well this happened once before and paul was able to easily fix it. I'm just waiting to hear from him. I'm checking the zarb.org site to see when they add the 2007.1 mirrors so I can rsync with them again. Hopefully we'll have the issue solved by then.
  14. It's an error message that showed up after I rsynced the other day. It shouldn't affect functionality. I contacted paul to take a look at it because he's our php expert but he's been strangely absent. I apologize and hopefully we'll get it fixed soon.
  15. I have an Acer Aspire also although a different model. From what I've read Acer Aspire's all use Broadcom Air Force One wireless, Is this the card you have or do you have a different one? Mine has been a nightmare in Mandriva so I switched to Debian and was able to solve my wireless problems.
  16. Not yet. I'll try that a little later. I'm so glad I got it working I don't want to mess with anything!
  17. Well I don't know how or what I did exactly but so far Debian is working with ndiswrapper. I spent a lot of time on this problem! Next time I'll be sure to get a supported card.
  18. For me Debian didn't load as fast as Mandriva. But my laptop is in serious need of more RAM, at least another 512 mbs since it only has 256 right now. Ouch, I know! The true test will be when I install it on my desktop and compare it to gentoo. Now if only my new DVD-rw will get here so I can install it. :D
  19. Does anybody know the kernel version?
  20. As soon as 2007.1 goes public I will rsync with zarb.org and the mirror sources should show up.
  21. Well I still hear people say that Gentoo users tend to be elitist snobs. *cough* tyme *cough* :P
  22. I am seriously impressed with Debian Etch. I'm going to replace Mandriva on my desktop with Debian and probably switch back and forth between it and Gentoo. The community is also a lot different than I'd heard. People have always told me that Debian users like to say RTFM and are quite rude. But the Debian community has been very nice and helpful. Thanks Greg2 for suggesting it!
