  1. Greg2 sent me a pm and helped me out with it. It turns out the firmware was already there. All I had to do was use modprobe then go into mcc and set it up. Then I went into wireless network, it scanned and found my network and then it was up and running. Oh and I had to remove the windows driver.
  2. OK, it's working like a charm. Thanks for the help!
  3. my bcml5.inf and .sys are both installed. Greg where did you find the linux driver?
  4. My card is a broadcom bcm4318 air force one 802.11 wireless lan controller Driver installed is bcmwl5. ndiswrapper -i driver.inf gives me couldn't open driver.inf /usr/bin/ndiswrapper line 172
  5. Yes, you're right. I wrote it down in a hurry and I have trouble reading my own handwriting! Too much time typing! :D
  6. I had a lot of trouble getting wireless working in my laptop when I installed Mandriva 2007. Today it stopped working all together. I tried reconfiguring with no luck. So I decided to remove the ndiswrapper rpm and compile it myself. I'm getting the following error: [FATAL: ERROR inserting ndiswrapper] I did modprobe ndiswrapper and got the following: (/lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdv/kernel/3rdpartyndiswrapper/ndiswrapperko.gz): INVALID arguement Any idea what could be wrong or why my wireless would suddenly stop working?
  7. I've heard people say that kde is more difficult to use but maybe it's because I'm used to it that I find it very easy to use. I've just never liked the feel of gnome although to be honest I've never used it much cause it just didn't appeal to me.
  8. Well I didn't want to mention it before but it was tyme's fault. You see, he'd been celebrating for his birthday so much he got quite smashed and he ssh'ed into the server and broke something. They said you could actually smell beer coming from the server! :o
  9. Yes we were. They told me that in the channel.
  10. Ok, the board went down again. Turned out what I quoted earlier wasn't the problem. This is from my convo with cshield in osuosl So we may experience some more problems until they get that fixed.
  11. Yeah, me too! I've been checking the board and waiting in the irc for four hours straight. Can I go back to bed now? lol
  12. I got up and six and realized the board was down so I contact osuosl and it was four their time and none of the system admins got in until 8. This is an explanation of the problem Again, my apologies.
  13. Well, Mandriva's financial report doesn't lie. Companies obviously cannot continue losing money. They could go into bankruptcy again and maybe hold on until they can turn the trend around. Let's hope so.
  14. I like your wallpaper jlc. Where'd you find it?
  15. Well arts will no longer be used with kde4. It'll be replaced by a different kind of sound system.
  16. I have no idea aboaut the error but you can always disable arts by going in the kde control center, Sound & Multimedia, Sound System, disable arts. I always disable arts. It's not necessary and can cause problems.
  17. I haven't ripped cd's in a long time and don't remember what software I used. This is for a data cd. Any suggestions? And yes, this is legitimate.
  18. xmms isn't even in portage in Gentoo anymore.
  19. Using Gentoo and Mandriva jlc? /me faints
  20. It's best if you just go into MCC and pick development packages. And then you have to install kernel-source and it has to be an exact match.
  21. It was more than four years ago and yes I never received any response at all.
  22. I bought my first Mandrive (mandrake 8.1) It promised 30 days free technical support. I posted two questions and neither were answered. Fortunately I was able to figure them out myself.
  23. No arts in kde4! Yay! This is how it was explained to me: " the concept will be similar to what amarok began doing. have a backend which plugin into various multimedia architectures." I don't have arts installed in Gentoo and it's disabled in Mandriva cause it was hogging my sound card and alsa couldn't work. I'm glad the developers are getting away from the piece of you know what! :D
