  1. I have Mandriva Free running KDE 3.4. I noticed that I can rip Audio CDs to FLAC and play them as well. However under K3B I can not burn audio CDs using FLAC. What do I need to start using FLAC? Amarok calls on K3B to burn but I get an error message that states FLAC audio is not supported from K3B. What do I need to do to get K3B to use FLAC audio files to burn audio CDs?
  2. I just made a post there, we'll see what happens. All I'm trying to do is burn Audio CDs with K3B using FLAC files. Everyone here has given me all kinds of ways around the issue but not how to get K3B to burn using FLAC. Now I just learned from my brother Ixthusdan that in his 2007 ver. he can burn audio CDs using FLAC. I may have to upgrade, for now I would like to keep 2006 and modify K3B... if possible.
  3. mindwave, You didn't receive help from Mandriva Club either?
  4. And... ...it just keeps getting better and better...
  5. sigh... Guy, I was with you until this; Just remember, there are Americans on this board.
  6. gees... Interesting read here, something to keep track of... Geeesss.... yeah, that sucks...
  7. Sounds like more Windows device driver problems, that's what giving me fits on another machine with some Sony software. At lest now that's what Windows is able to report.
  8. Well, thanks guys, this helps a lot, scarecrow; thanks for the link, real helpfull info here. tyme; What? Your never wrong! :P
  9. So with audio CDs Konqueror is behaving like a audio CD ripper... showing you what output formats it can give.
  10. I noticed in Windows XP running "My Computer", now show some contents of an audio CD as CDA files. With Linux KDE 3.4, running "Konqueror", will show WAV files with others in directories; CDA, FLAC ,MP3 and OGG Vorbis. including an Information Dir. and Full CD Dir. My question is; What I see in Konqueror is what's really on the CD? All the files copy to the HD just fine using Konqueror.
  11. It turns out that this is a encoder from whatever to flac, this is not what I want.
  12. Apparently, installing flac: urpmi flac should get the flac support, and then import the flac files into an audio-cd project and burn the CD. I'm going to try this again... If anyone remembers what I was trying to do. [root@THE_MACHINE woodworker]# urpmi flac ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Mandrakelinux/devel/2006.0/i586/media/main /flac-1.1.2-4mdk.i586.rpm installing flac-1.1.2-4mdk.i586.rpm from /var/cache/urpmi/rpms Preparing... ############################################# 1/1: flac ############################################# [root@THE_MACHINE woodworker]# OK, K3B still will not handle flac files. Come on guys, I find it hard to believe that nobody here knows how to do this... I'm even providing console results, and speaking of console results, does this look right? greg2; I installed audioconverter, now I'm in the process of looking for it. I have no idea where the installer put it.
  13. urpmi audiokonverter will give you an 'easy to use' right-click converter, then you can burn the converted files to cd I know this isn't exactly what you are after... but it will work. [root@THE_MACHINE woodworker]# urpmi audiokonverter no package named audiokonverter [root@THE_MACHINE woodworker]# No, No good.
  14. I know it's been a while, I could not get the conversion, I would like to try to get K3B to do it, and it's possible. Apparently, installing flac: urpmi flac should get the flac support, and then import the flac files into an audio-cd project and burn the CD. I'm going to try this again... If anyone remembers what I was trying to do. [root@THE_MACHINE woodworker]# urpmi flac ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Mandrakelinux/devel/2006.0/i586/media/main/flac-1.1.2-4mdk.i586.rpm installing flac-1.1.2-4mdk.i586.rpm from /var/cache/urpmi/rpms Preparing... ############################################# 1/1: flac ############################################# [root@THE_MACHINE woodworker]# OK, K3B still will not handle flac files.
  15. Actually, at this point, I would not mind paying for Linux. 2006 Free was my first fucntional version and it has proven to me to be a viable operating system. I like KDE. Now, it just needs to over come the Big M$. In other words; become a household name.
  16. I don't know how to change mine.... :o ;)
  17. I see where you are coming from now. "I can't make audio CDs with K3B in the FLAC format,...." instead it could have been I can't make audio CDs with K3B FROM the FLAC format,.... Anyway I can't seem to setup K3B to do just that.
  18. Hey John... As long as they play in the CD player in the truck, van or in the woodshop they are music CDs or as good, What ever... they play, and sound good to boot!
  19. AussieJohn, What I'm doing is building play list CDs from CDs or downloads from the net, for my listening pleasure in the vehicle or my woodshop. This was something I did as a teen with 8 tracks and then cassettes. Today, I'm using CDs. It's quick and easy on a computer to build a play list a then burn it. With M$ I was using .wav files and Linux .ogg files. .flac was something wanted to try out. And yes, you can burn CDs from .flac files.
  20. By the way, Dear, dear brother of mine, Why... why do I NOT have a manual for K3B, hmmm? And for that matter, why don't I have manuals for half of the stuff in KDE?
  21. Unfortunately it didn't work, any idea why? With M$ Windows I was able to work out problems to some extent, how ever I have no idea of Linux architecture. As far as I can tell, I need .flac decoder and .flac encoder to get K3B to burn audio CDs using flac.
  22. The fellow in the post had only Gnometoaster, I would like to use K3B if possible. Thanks for the response.
