  1. Sounds like you firewalled them. Will need to forward port 21 through the router. I do this by going to 192.168.0.1 in a browser and logging in to my router's homepage. Most likely you can find more info on the manafacturer's website.
  2. Cool, How's this working in the thumbnail/photo browser department these days? I had tried this before and it wouldn't display the thumbs when I opened a folder filled with jpeg's. I have been waiting for a good replacement for window's ACDsee photo browser and thought this would be it someday. I would like to see thumbs of all images (jpg, gif, psd, etc), click for preview, and be able to easily sort to other folders.
  3. Assuming the install media checks out, I would venture a guess that a USB device is the cause here. I would unplug them for the install... then install all those updates that were issued afterwards and then go back to configuring your devices.
  4. OK, gotta ask this: suspend to disk option is this the same as in sleep mode or standby ? Geek --> English translation please.
  5. try this from terminal as root #diskdrake You can find this also in Mandrake Control Center under mount points... but be carefull in there. You will be able to resize partitions in there too.

    Getting annoyed :x

Did we try kget or wget or downloaderX yet? If you want, you can post a link (or send me) I could probally do a multi zip or rar and post for you.
  7. I had tried most of these before without much success... probally more my fault. The one that seemed most like premiere was Broadcast 2000, which is now known as Cinelerra. I might have to try the latest builds again. http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3 I would be interested in finding out more of this cinepaint that tyme just mentioned. Wonder if this works closely with gimp... had seen a bunch of video related filters in gimp 1.3.17 ???
  8. same here... bored at work... BUT, I still have a half day to go. back OnT: Hey fuzzy, what kind of photography? I work for a newspaper and working hard to learn the gimp way... But yes, if I had the money to burn... it would have been a G3 a couple of years ago... mostly because of the Adobe habit. I use an old ppc G3 w/ running 8.6 and a 233 mhz at work.
  9. *sniff* *sniff* smell that ? is it cybr or that joke ?
  10. Maybe we should start with asking how you are trying to scan anything. Are you starting xsane or kooka, from the Kmenu... under Multimedia/ Graphics ? Or maybe you are trying to aquire an image from the gimp ? My guess is you may be used to using the buttons on the sanner, which probably will not work. Th scanner driver issue in Linux is still in its infancy with HP leading the way, I believe.
  11. I tried to make sense of this, but I haven't done any virtual servers here, so I can just pass along my $.02 here. First, I would install webmin. This will become a good friend keeping things in order. Second, How are you testing things? From what I know, you would use 127.0.0.1 to test from the same machine; something like 192.168.x.x (or whatever router address you have) to test from another machine on same network; and then your actual IP from outside the network (as long as the correct ports are configured and forwarded through the router ) Seems you got at least the default server going, so you could do something like: /var/www/html/site1/index.html /var/www/html/site2/index.html /var/www/html/site3/index.html and access like this: www.cerberus.com/site1/ www.cerberus.com/site2/ www.cerberus.com/site3/
  12. Might want to check this thread and try the newer java rpm: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=7430 Did we click that "scan for new plug-ins" button in the KDE panel? I think I remember you may need mozplugger installed and to be sure there were no other java installs. One way to check that java is installed correctly is to use console: which java or whereis java or you could click the about plug-ins under the Help menu in Mozilla. See what is listed there ? another thought... have you tried several java test sites? Could just be a bad page your trying to load. another idea I remember that people used to get java working was to install Limewire.

    Gimp 1.2.5

Hey, hope you have better luck with that one. Just tried here and ended in dependency hell. Version 1.3.18 wanted to take out half my drive to install... same as 1.2.5 wanted to do... once I figured out it was looking for an updated perl-base rpm. I don't want to practically reinstall almost everything to upgrade one app. The exact one I had no trouble installing was 1.3.17-3mdk.rpm found at the above cooker site. If you try that one, don't forget the matching libgimp file. Might have been easier to compile the one found at gimp.org, but then again, I would have to install 200 megs of kernel sources and developer packages.

    Gimp 1.2.5

try here: ftp://speakeasy.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrak...el/contrib/RPMS I grabbed a copy too... while I was there.

    Gimp 1.2.5

That's about the same thing where I gave up with installing 1.2.5 http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...p?p=56813#56813 So now I have two versions installed side-by-side --- the 1.2.3 version from the 9.1 CDs and 1.3.16 developer's version I downloaded elsewhere.

    Gimp 1.2.5

probably so. I had trouble installing the 1.2.5 rpm I found for some reason... so I installed a developers version instead (1.3.16). To rebuild it use console and this: #rpmbuild --rebuild gimp-1.2.5-5mdk.src.rpm It will place the built rpm package in something like /usr/src You will probally need to install some other packages to do this tho (like rpmbuild).

    Gimp 1.2.5

A file with src in it such as gimp-1.2.5-5mdk.src.rpm needs to be rebuilt to a usable rpm (or so I thought) to install. You could try running it by opening a terminal/konsole and use #gimp and see if it starts
  18. I can quit anytime... really I can... I don't need it... I am only a social user and use it only on weekends... uh huh. Oh no, what's that... no way, you scored some adobe? Wanna do some of these docs with me? Wish I had the bucks to waste on that potent stuff that Mac got. Oh man, sure hope the boss doesn't decide to do a D&A test anytime soon. Moral of this story (repeat these 2 lines over and over now): You buy more MS to do more work. You do more work to buy more MS. Guess it may take a while yet to break the addiction here
  19. Welcome aboard, First, Konq is dependant on Mozilla's plug-ins being in order. Looking at my system, My java was installed here: file:/usr/java/j2re1.4.1/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so My current Mozilla is 1.3.1 and has a symlink pointing to java in: file:/usr/lib/mozilla-1.3.1/plugins If I check in KDE's control center, I will find (under webrowsing/ plugins) that the system checks for plugins in that folder and thus finds my java and works in Konq. So I would first check to see if these things are pointing to the correct places and also check to see if they are enabled there.
  20. another one you may want ot look at. It is still in beta stages, but looks like it has a ton of "pro-like" features. It reminded me of window's soundforge, and looks to be richer than audacity. rezound http://rezound.sourceforge.net
  21. hmmmm, any chance we could lure a celebrity poster here? or ressurrect a guru from the past? Do we need or want one? After all, we got our own talent here plus some very entertaining posters to boot.
  22. 1) Background color looks the same here too (Konq and Mozilla). Although I don't think this would be the problem, but colors will show differently depending on monitor setting (256 color v/s 16 bit color). 2) I think the pop-up confusion is stemming from the fact that we are combining a graphic with a link. This is what I come up with to make it work in both Konq and Mozilla. <p align="center"><a title="desserts" href="desserts"><img src="simplecalvin.gif" style="border: 0px solid;" alt="desserts" title="this could be a pie"></a><a title="poultry" href="poultry"><img src="hobbesface.gif" style="border: 0px solid;" alt="poultry" title="this could be a chicken"></a><a title="beef" href="beef"><img src="mad%20calvin.gif" style="border: 0px solid;" alt="beef" title="this could be a cow"></a><a title="seafood" href="seafood"><img src="futurecalvin.gif" style="border: 0px solid;" alt="seafood" title="this could be a fish (or a smelly xxxx)"></a><a title="pork" href="pork"><img src="strangealien.gif" style="border: 0px solid;" alt="pork" title="this could be a pig"></a><a title="drinks" href="drinks"><img src="yellingcalvin.gif" style="border: 0px solid;" alt="drinks" title="this could be a liquor bottle"></a></p> Hope this helps you.
  23. Maybe something like the cf card reader problem i have. I don't think they came out with a fix yet... just a workaround. I leave a spare card in when I boot so I don't get any error messages. Maybe boot with a zip inserted and give that a try?
  24. Welcome ! I really don't understand your question, but seeing you have not gotten a response yet, I will try. Your problem may be rooted in one of the many bugs released with 9.1, in particular... making a boot disk... see these posts: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...ght=boot+floppy http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...ight=drakfloppy If we are having problems translating things, please look up one of our fine translaters from this page: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/groupcp.php?g...774ba187a0b2d92 Please post back with more info if necessary... there's lots of peeps here that would like to help you.
  25. No INSTALLDIR=, but README said to edit this line: GIMPBIN = /usr/bin which I did not touch since that seemed to be correct. The plugin seems to have been installed, gimp just doesn't want to acknowledge it or something. OR... I just ain't looking in the right spot for it. /me keeps pluggin away at it
