  1. Ken is gay. I want a GI Joe computer. Those were the "dolls" for real boys during the 60's and 70's. It would, of course, be based on Mandrake. This GI Joe OS would be very simple to install, so any grunt can have it up in running in less than one hour. You will never have to worry about hackers since it installs its own perimeter defense with several options to strengthen your home base install. Your primary objective is to rid the world of the evil empire. This OS will come with several choices (free of course) of battle plans to attack the enemy. It will begin with a plan of action to take over enemy operations within your own network and then proceed to conquer others as your mission progresses in time. PS bvc, you don't need another OS... you need another bathroom instead.
  2. Found this story that may interest you: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...=11&u=/nf/22380 According this article: Looks like our mub friends are pointing you in the right direction :D

  4. hmmmm, I wonder what "the forbidden fruit" tastes like? Naw... I would never even think about d/l it and then sharing it with others. When's this being released?
  5. Thanks Ix, I see now, I was thinking of the couple systems I have pieced together... the better MB's with 2 extra PCI slots, extra ram slots, the separate Audio and Video cards, etc. I like the control you have when building your own. You usally end up spending more (unless you recycle some parts)... but its well worth it.
  6. Speaking of Walmart and cheap, I seen the following system there for $498 and was thinking, I don't think I could piece this together any cheaper (moniter and all is included). Was also wondering if MS still offered refunds if someone did not want the copy of XP ? Compaq Presario S4020WM-B AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processor (2.0 GHz) 128 MB DDR SDRAM Built-in HP CD-Writer (CD-RW) 40 GB hard drive Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface Compaq CV7500 17" monitor Windows XP Home Edition
  7. Definiately good news there, thanks for sharing. :D
  8. No problem with my fresh KDE 3.1.0 and MDK 9.1 install using a very cheap scroll wheel mouse here. If not a KDE related problem, maybe a video card issue affecting the display?
  9. check this page out: http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_background.asp It gives all the specifics and examples on how it works. Try using konq, I have been having problems with mozilla... It is not supported in netscape 4, but I think should work with a newer mozilla... haven't quite figured out my problem yet.
  10. I checked one of my .cue files: FILE "My_File.bin" BINARY TRACK 01 MODE1/2352 INDEX 01 00:00:00 I don't think you really need to use a .cue file, just burn the .bin image

    webmail setup

Welcome aboard, Since no one has supplied an answer yet, I will supply a guess. I think it all depends on what you want to accomplish and what application(s) you decide to install. I think most, like sendmail, will work on its own without a server. I imagine if your mail app is configured and networked correctly, it won't matter whether its an inhouse server or web server. I would say go ahead and just try it and see how it works. If you run into any problems setting something up, come back and post another thread. good luck,

    phpMyAdmin

Just posted the files I needed to successfully run php and mysql here: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...p?p=65269#65269 Everything running OK otherwise? apache (apachectl extendedstatus), mysql (service mysql status), and php (use script on above post)?
  13. Welcome to the MUB, If you downloaded it... there should also have been a small file that looks like this: md5sums.91.asc. You would want to download this to the same folder as the iso image and follow the instructions here: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...ighlight=md5sum
  14. You may want to explain what error you are getting to better troubleshoot what the problem may be. Here's a handy scipt to put in /var/www/html (or wherever your web root is located) that will tell you just about all you want to know about your php install (if it is working): <? phpinfo(); ?> *Save as phpinfo.php and call up as you would a web page Also, just had the occasion to install apache2 and php again on a fresh install of Mandrake 9.1. Here's all I installed to get a php-nuke site up and running: apache2-2.0.47-1.1mdk apache-conf-2.0.44-11.1mdk apache2-common-2.0.47-1.2 apache2-modules-2.0.47-1.1mdk apache2-mod_php-2.0.44_4.3.1-2mdk libapr0-2.0.47-1.1mdk libdb4.0-4.0.14-6mdk libtool-1.4.3-1mdk lynx-2.8.5-0.13mdk.dev.12 libphp_common430-430-11.1mdk php-cli-4.3.1-11.1mdk php-ini-4.3.0-1mdk and I needed to install MySQL for the database: MySQL-4.0.11a-5mdk MySQL-common-4.0.11a-5mdk perl-DBI-1.32-1mdk MySQL-client-4.0.11a-5mdk libmysql12-4.0.11a-5mdk
  15. MOD NOTE: This translation effort by roland and the YinYeti was combined and moved to: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=7985 super job guys! :D
  16. If your refering to the setup at http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/ I just used it and it spit up an error too that I think was caused by a problem with texstar's site so I had to set up using the gui way. Configuration --> Packaging--> Software Sources Manager This will show a window with your sources that have been configured. I wanted to add texstar so I of course click the "add" button" then in next window: select "ftp server" Name = texstar Path = ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distribut...ndrake/9.1/rpms Relative path = hdlist.cz * *I believe this is where this problem occured, because normally this file is located up one and in folder /base (which you would list then as "../base/hdlist.cz" --- use your browser to locate it) click ok and save/quit You can add local files, cd's, security update, and other sources with this.
  17. ...or vice-verse... and disable it in the bios and try using the 3Com one by itself.
  18. Now that would BE innovative for Mandrake. But I would guess they want to do something special for Mandrake "X" Just hope its not too innovative and causes me to be stuck with 9.2 for years to come (much like what MAC has done to us at work... we need to stick with OS 8.6 due to compatibility reasons)
  19. My KDE will not start anymore in Mandrake 9.1. I boot up to a command line and type in "kde" to start, but now I get the following messages and end up back at the command line. Could not start kdeinit: check your installation relocation error: /usr/lib/libkdefx.so.4 undefinded symbol /usr/lib/startkde: line 101: xmessage: command not found warning connect() failed: no such file or directory Error: can't contact kdeinit I tried upgrading and reinstalling KDE. gnome and the other dm's start fine. Any hope here? thanks,
  20. :mystilol: Sorta sounds like the distro I have installed: "confused Linux distributions" and "waiter and working station" with apache "lodged" in my box. But until a better translation comes along, thanks CybrJ and Motts, the above statement looks promising. :D
  21. Usually fubar's method of closing all windows works for me. But if that should fail --- you can always use a paper clip to poke in that little hole on the face of the drive thats just big enough for it (straighten clip about 3 inches worth and push straight in till the drawer begins to budge)
  22. anon is correct here. Seems I had konq set to use a proxy addy and I forgot I did that. So I uncheck the use proxy setting and guess what? It works again.
  23. You could try my Reverse Engineering method to help you out. For example, lets suppose we want to find a site for pictures of our favorite NBA team... The Spurs. 1) google this "photos spurs" 2) open up first site that was returned ( Should of been a page from Newsday.com ) and view page source. 3) take notes on how this page was set up and worked in google. 4) in this case, our keywords we googled for are not even listed in any meta tags. So it seems the page title had a much better impact on the result in this case and would help to prove the stories like sas just mentioned.
  24. good program steve, but yes, only recovered 5 of 60 files... and two of those recovered were garbage. But that site had a comparison with its software versus Photo Rescue, which I was able to find and use to salvage most of my stuff. Might be worth the $20 bucks to purchase a copy of Data Rescue for work cause its bound to happen again. For the record, the glitch happened on my MAC with a vfat CF disk at work. thanks again,
  25. Looking for any tips on recovering files from a camera's Compact Flash card. I am trying to recover jpg's that were deleted after I transfered to a harddrive and then deleted before realizing something had gone wrong in the transfer. I tried traditional methods used for harddrives (in windows), but these do not recognize it as a drive. Also have tried - In MDK 9.1 - installing program called "recover" (a mandrake rpm) but this crashes after 5 minutes. [root@localhost scoopy]# recover /dev/sda1 Recover v1.3b by Tom Pycke <Tom.Pycke@advalvas.be> Getting inodes (this can take some time)... debugfs 1.32 (09-Nov-2002) /dev/sda1: Bad magic number in super-block while opening filesystem lsdel: Filesystem not open Killed [root@localhost scoopy]# thanks,
