BTW: I think I got my problem here straitened out now and have one line each in my fstab... one for the USB harddrive and one for my USB card reader (with supermount). Can read and write to both with konq or terminal. Only miner problem left is the auto icons on the desktop. IF I try to use them I still get the following error: "Retrieving data from devices is not supported"

No... not if your able to set things up right, but being I wasn't... IF I had it working after some changes, I would find out what went wrong after rebooting. noauto would go in like this: /dev/sdb1 /mnt/removable vfat noauto,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850 0 0 When you tried my way... you cleared your fstab and extra folders in /mnt, right? Did it automatically write any entries in you fstab, such as the one that begins with, "none /mnt/removable supermount" ???

if you run this from a terminal: $ rpm -qa | grep kernel you will get something back like this: kernel-2.6.3.7mdk-1-1mdk kernel-source-2.6.3-7mdk which is the kernel and the source I have installed, but seeing your have 9.2 installed, you may have its default kernel installed, which is: kernel-2.4.22-10mdk and will need to find the following file from any one of the normal ftp sites: kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk.i586.rpm Unfortunately, all these ftp servers are in an un-usable state at the moment due to the changes involved with Community edition going Official. In the meantime... if you haven't already... maybe you can tackle a kernel upgrade to kernel-2.4.22-28mdk That file and its matching kernel-sources are available from our own server: ftp://mandrake-forum.org/pub/Mandrake/Updates/9.2/

thanks aRTee, I think we are on to something here. Something is not connecting the new device names to the old ones. Here's what I have done tonight with success: 1) unplug my USB CF card reader 2) removed all references to my usb devices in fstab 3) deleted the folder usb40 (for my HD) in /mnt and also the ones for the card reader (left the one for removable... had a hunch it would need this) 4) reboot After rebooting, I found only one line in fstab: none /mnt/removable supermount dev=/dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/part1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,kudzu,codepage=850 0 0 and guess what? I open up the "removable" folder and there were my files :) So then, I rename this folder to "usb40" and changed "/mnt/removable" to "/mnt/usb40" in the fstab. another reboot (beginning to feel like I am installing apps in windows) and it works. I also now only have one of those harddrive icons showing up on my desktop. But of course this still don't work. It gives me an error window that says, "Retrieving data from devices is not supported", but hey it works in konq and with only one line in fstab. I am hanging in with you kmc77... Now to try and add my card reader back in without screwing it up again. PS: is your zip drive working ?

When the config question comes up for me, I just hit cancel... It doesn't seem to do anything for me anyway. I don't know how to pause that boot screen, but there may be a file in /log??? Seems like we are both stuck at about the same place now. For me tho, its a problem USB card reader and that mysterious "removable" line. We will both have to wait for a more knowledgeable reply here. good luck B)

I can't speak for Tex, but I would suppose invision is not an option, because it is not GPL'd. I personnally chose to use phpnuke myself (knowing its faults) was because it is among the most popular content management systems out there, and is well documented and developed. It had the features and addons I wanted to use and it was kind of easy for me to implement and hack to my liking. Oh... and the biggest reason... It's FREE. But, it is kind of like viruses and windows... that being more popular and well known, it has become the same with those script kiddies. Also note, other systems not immune from being hacked, much the same as Linux is not virus free.

You did it the way I would of tried. (ALSO, be sure to leave a blank line at the end of this file) Maybe sdb1 is not the right device? What all sdx devices do you have listed in /dev? I am not good at commands, but there should be a way to identify which device your usb drive is with a command. Maybe something with cat /proc ... something. Hopefully someone here will know better. Also, when booting... do you see any red failed notices (hit ESC key for verbose mode)? Might key us in on a problem here.

kmc77, I got my own fstab problems, but will pass along what I can. Maybe it will help you, and then again... maybe it just may make things worse :unsure: I got that same line in my fstab and I can't get rid of it. It keeps coming back: none /mnt/removable supermount dev=/dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/part1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,kudzu,codepage=850 0 0 I have this other line that actually mounts my drive and allows me to view my files with konq in the folder I have named "usb40" ( I see nothing if I browse the "removable" folder): /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb40 vfat umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850 0 0 Now if I use konq and browse my /dev folder, I see I have an sda which points to the harddrive as a whole, and also a sda1 which points to the only partition on this drive. sda1 is also the same as that "removable" item listed in fstab. I see you have a zip drive marked as sda4. Any ideas where sda1, 2, and 3 are? Now seeing your "removable" is listed as sdb1, I would guess and try adding this line to your fstab: /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usbHD vfat umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850 0 0 AND also create a folder in /mnt named "usbHD" (or use name of your choosing)

you most likely need to create a folder in /mnt that matches the entry for the drive in your fstab. may want to post a copy of fstab here.

Unfortunately... IT does not take any talent to hack a php-nuke site. It is probably all these script kiddies can do... as it is too easy to find a pass cracker (thru google) and gain admin access to these sites. Reminds me, There are ways to secure a php nuke site more, must read up some. I am glad PCLO did not lose anything this time. PS: go get em' cybrjackle !

Just read someplace a note from the cooker mailing list (from Warly) that the sources for 10 are moving to their normal place on the servers. 10 final is on its way to the presses. Adjust your urpms accordingly

Haven't quite figured out what has happened with this myself, but since going to version 10 (plus a new video card) I have noticed the fonts seemed to have shrunk. I use mozilla and just keep hitting the text zoom feature and bump em up a notch. Seems to help here. Maybe you can grab a screen shot and post it here. That way we can get a better idea what your looking at.

Exactly... its the FINAL- Community release. BUT, when it comes time for 10.1 Community --- I get the feeling everyone will end up treating it just like any other "RC" release. If they are into playing with the cooker stuff and submitting bug reports, they will install it, BUT if they are looking for the latest stable release, they will wait this time for the "real final" before updating their machines.

Is this problem all straitened out now? I always read to have your CD's the other way around... writer as master and reader as slave... there was always questions on whether is was proper to mix them with the harddrives on both IDE cables. Which version of gimp were you running before? Could have something to do with gimp 1-3 being a "dev version" and being installed alongside of stable gimp 1-2 ???

Is there a particular reason why your trying to compile this? Why not just install the rpm. You won't have to worry about the libraries and path errors and will save you some headaches. You can find the new gimp in a contribs folder on your favorite mirror: follow this path --- /pub/unix/Linux/Mandrake/Mandrake-devel/contrib-stable/i586/ PS: looks like this is more the problem in the compile: *** 'gimpprint-config --version' returned 4.2.6, but GIMP-PRINT (4.2.5) (I really am not sure, but I would guess you need to uninstall the old version before compiling the new, or run ldconfig to update the paths to current libraries)

Probably have autologin selected. You can select/ deselect this In Mandrake Control Center (configure your computer) under boot and autologin. Then on next restart, you will login via the command line: user password startx (or kde) I use kde and the way I would start gnome then is to install "xtart". Then instead of typing startx, I would type Xtart (with a big x) and this gives me a list of the desktops I can fire up.

9.2 had lots of updates... Any chance of downloading from another and transfer them to this machine and then installing them?

That message has nothing to do with what your working on. Has to do with video acceleration and video drivers. Nothing to be too concerned over. (just thought I pass that along)

I personally have never heard of this bcmath, but I would look for an add-on module, such as php-bcmath or apache2_mod-bcmath rpm. You could also try using webmin to configure this in. This (and phpadmin) is a must have app if your running any server. Or check the options in the php.ini file.

You didn't state, but seeing you posted this in this forum, I guess your using the cli. rename that folder to just help (get rid of the dashes) then try "rm -R help"
