  1. that is possible so if there was a way to downgrade I would do it, if you know how I would like to hear it... I am currently using the x11-driver-video-intel version 2.2.0-1mdv2008.0... here is my xorg: # File generated by XFdrake (rev 230776) Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" EndSection # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the xorg.conf man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "ServerFlags" #DontZap # disable <Ctrl><Alt><BS> (server abort) #DontZoom # disable <Ctrl><Alt><KP_+>/<KP_-> (resolution switching) AllowMouseOpenFail # allows the server to start up even if the mouse does not work EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension Load "v4l" # Video for Linux Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "glx" # 3D layer Load "dri" # direct rendering EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard1" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "hp2501" Option "XkbLayout" "us" Option "XkbOptions" "compose:rwin" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse1" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "monitor1" VendorName "Plug'n Play" ModelName "MX50" HorizSync 30-54 VertRefresh 47-100 # TV fullscreen mode or DVD fullscreen output. # 768x576 @ 79 Hz, 50 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 50.00 768 832 846 1000 576 590 595 630 # 768x576 @ 100 Hz, 61.6 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 63.07 768 800 960 1024 576 578 590 616 EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "device1" Driver "intel" Option "DPMS" Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps" "1" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "screen1" Device "device1" Monitor "monitor1" DefaultColorDepth 24 Subsection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "layout1" InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer" Screen "screen1" EndSection
  2. yes, but its a no go. Its the same thing it was before: Graphic card: 810 and later Monitor: MX50 Resolution: 1024x800 these were the settings that were on here when I first installed mandriva on my system. If you need my full graphics specs here they are: Monitor: HP MX50 Graphics card: Intel 82915G/P/GV/GL/PL/910GL Memory Controller (a intel 915 graphics card according to ubuntu) Identification Vendor: ‎Intel Corporation Description: ‎82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller Media class: ‎VGA compatible controller Connection Bus: ‎PCI PCI domain: ‎0 Bus PCI #: ‎0 PCI device #: ‎2 PCI function #: ‎0 Vendor ID: ‎0x8086 Device ID: ‎0x2582 Sub vendor ID: ‎0x103c Sub device ID: ‎0x2a08 Misc Module: ‎Card:Intel 810 and later all of this is unchanged, I did nothing to get a reaction like this except download the recent intel patch
  3. Alright this is really weird, my desktop effects are no longer working after I did a reboot. I think it has to do with todays intel driver update as I have a intel 915 graphics card [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  4. well our friend here is using a older computer though, so it might not be feasible to upgrade. May I ask what your specs are Lester?
  5. size should not be an issue as my icons are minuscule
  6. yessir, but its a no go otherwise I would not be issuing this. I guess I can give this a try, I do know what you are talking about as like i said I have used gdm before and I do know pretty much of what does what on here
  7. Okay I have discovered that getting additional themes for kdm under mandriva makes it look like crap so I have GDM installed and use it instead. However I have an issue, I cannot change my login photo with it. Now I use what is needed to do this (I use the change login photo app for gnome) but it seems to do nothing, just the same boring login icon that comes by default... this is quite odd as I have done this sort of thing before without issues.
  8. what I have learned is the issue is not from the screensavers but from using compiz, I looked around quite a bit on the official mandriva forums.
  9. yup that did it, I wasnt sure as I know packaging varies
  10. hey i am willing to try anything, like I said I am not here to argue. by the way what package is the gnome settings daemon in on the repos?
  11. I am not argueing, just pointing out how I like to set up my system
  12. I use it because it offers a way to have a unified look without being tied down to a certain style, in most other distributions I have used this engine works fairly well but in mandriva it looks junky.
  13. but i have used other KDE based distros, slapped on gtk-qt and it seemed fine. Heck kubuntu seems to do better then this
  14. well if i could find the source code for it I was thinking of making a port for MCC for ubuntu/debian based distributions. Once I get another computer I was thinking of developing a new linux distribution based on debian (as that is what I am most familiar with)
  15. Yeh and I dont think sun will close anything off as sql is much too widespread and if they did anything rash people would be on them like hotcakes.
  16. well it seems much messier in mandriva then in others i have used, mandriva doesnt seem to do well with GTK theming
  17. I have it but it really doesnt work that well on here, the gtk engine seems stuck on the iaora theme even when I set it to use the QT engine. I want to use more themes but it seems stuck.
  18. No effect I am afraid. my screen is still dull looking
  19. It only goes so far, this is a older monitor so it doesnt have a lot of flashy settings. This monitor is like 7 years old now, but it still works great so i see no need for a new monitor. look my monitor gamma settings worked fine until now, I am just looking for solutions to do it via the kde control center due to this monitors limited settings. I know this monitor works folks, like I said the monitor is not the issue
  20. I hope not as it is a important feature for me
  21. well I was not shouting, just making sure people know my card as obviously Ixthusdan did not read that part... this is a habit of mine if I want to make a point, and no I am not shouting

    KDE4

well I did give a burn of kubuntu with kde4 earlier to give it a shot... but I am not impressed right now. It seems too limited, a big taskbar you cant change the size of, little to none really impressive effects (heck even kde 3.5 runs circles around it in terms of looks) It just looks.... amateurish. I personally see no reason to use it in its current state, the black panel just screams vista and overall it looks cheaply done... I will give it a chance yes but not for the foreseeable future. KDE 4.1 might be where I look at kde4 as a viable choice, but who knows. But I just hope KDE4 isnt forced on us, I really dont want it at this point and time
  23. Its a intel, I thought I made that clear in my post:
  24. Huh? what I mean is that mandriva had a few updates the other day via its updater, and I am starting to suspect there might have been something in the update process that messed things up. Does that make it more clear? before the other day everything worked perfectly but after mandriva updated I lost my contrast/brightness control in the kde control center... My main suspect is xorg right now, or with HAL but I am unsure. that is why I made this topic to see if someone has a similar issue
