  1. Hi guys, I have a problem. I cannot play video files in any media player in Mandriva 2008. I tried Xine, MPlayer, VLC, Kaffeine. Also, I installed win32-codecs, dvd codecs, real player codecs, everything from easy rpmi. All permisions should be ok. And it just won´t work. Only thing I get when I open the file is sound, but not the picture. Any ideas and similar experiences?
  2. I skimmed through the site, but there is quick info about installing, and I must say I do not understand. Since I was doing a lot of programming before, I understand the building driver part, but to build Linux kernel? That sounds scary, and in my opinion wasn't explained in enough details for me not to screw something up. If someone can give me steps for installing driver, please do so... Thanx
  3. Problem solved! First the True Vector Internet monitor (vsmon) was blocking me from accessing internet, and then DNS server was not configured correctly. Make those two things work, and you go online :D
  4. Hello everybody, this question may sound funny to experienced linux users, but I'm not one of them (at least yet) :D I downloaded driver for ADSL usb Conexant AccessRunner modem. Now I have to install it, but in package I have only .c++ and .h files that probably need to be compiled in some way, along with some KBuild and one more file w/o extension. How to install that driver?
  5. I have ADSL usb modem, Conexant AccessRunner. I read on net that windows ICS is acting as DHCP so I set Mandriva to obtain IP automaticaly, which worked, but internet is still down. I did not understand your question about gateway? I thought that computer connected to internet and acting as router to outer world should always (in practice) have 192.168.0.1 and therefore is gateway. Correct me if I'm wrong...
  6. Problem solved! I was looking in directory where xorg.conf is. I found a file called xorg.conf.old and restored it as new xorg.conf. Reboot, and voila - everything works again. Thank you once again for putting my attention to that particular file.
  7. Thanx for the answer, I checked as you said but my xorg.conf looks just the same. Any other ideas?
  8. Hello, I would appreciate if somebody can help me. I run Mandriva 2008 on Fujitsu Siemens laptop, and once my system blocked. I turned laptop off, then again on, booted the Mandriva, but my keyboard stopped working (mouse is working fine). When I enter safe mode in Linux, my keyboard is working fine, in console, and in X environment. It is working in Windows on same machine, and during the boot, so the only place where it is not working is when regular boot is performed, and X server loaded. I could not check if it is working in console after regular boot, because I do not know how to get there by mouse (it is not working in Konsole shell). Can somebody tell me how to reset a keyboard driver (if it is possible), and repair my keyboard without reinstalling Mandriva. Thank you...
  9. Hello everybody, first to say that I like this forum very much, and that I'm new to Linux, but with a lot Windows experience. My problem is as follows: I have windows desktop machine (192.168.0.1) connected via cross cable to laptop with Mandriva 2008 (192.168.0.2). I have ADSL modem on desktop machine, so only my Windows machine is capable of going to internet (for now :) at least). I tried to share my ADSL connection so I can access internet via LAN from Linux laptop. I set my connection to be shared by proper LAN, and my Linux sees (and pings) my Windows desktop (I can share files from Win to Linux). In Linux I entered following parameters in network center: IP Address: 192.168.0.2 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1 DNS server 1 is set to 192.168.0.2 How can I make this work? Some friends mentioned some DHCP and DNS settings, but it is pretty advanced to me in Linux, and not so clear in Windows too. Thanx you guys!
