  1. Hi guys, i have got the same problem, I installed MDK 10 and it corrupted my MBR. It freaks it out so much that a winxp cd cant run, it stalls. The only way i have found to repair it to remove winxp and give mdk10 the whole cd. Bad news. I have a maxtor 120Gb and western digit 200gb same prob on both. I have lost all the stuff on the maxtor, please dont make me lose the stuff on the western digit. Knoppix is fine with the partitions and allows me to copy stuff between them without any issues. What's up with 10? Also i have a m-audio delta 410 sound card ( PCI alsa ) which worked out of the box in 9.2. Why the hassle in 10. is it all to do with the kernel? Thanks K

    xMule woes

hi , i use amule and xmule all the time and there is a way round it. I use Guarddog to manage my firewall and i have port 4662 open. I have posted about this before and never got a good reply but here is the thing. If i boot up, run guarddog (as root ) and click 'apply' without changing anything i dont get a lowid, otherwise i do. So thats my way round it. It is a drag that i need to refresh my firewall scripts this way, if anyone knows another i would be glad to not have to start guarddog everytime i reeboot. Eska
  3. why not use good old xmms? If you go to shoutcast.com select a stream and open it in xmms it should play like a dream. Eska
  4. hello, In answer to your questions. Install should go as well as you have described, but unfortunately it doesn't for everyone. What make/model is your modem. We cant help you if we don't know!? To view your files like in windows explorer do this: 1. click on the home Icon. 2. press F9 to view the side panel ( the icons on the side represent what you are looking at ) All the best Eska
  5. hello I use guarddog and find it very nice to set up and use. The only problem i have is that every time i reboot i loose connection to my port 4662 ( my amule/ed2k port ) To fix it i have to open guarddog and then apply my settings ( even though i haven't changed anything ) Other ports are fine like slsk (2234) and the web and stuff. Another interesting issue it that when i look at services running ( through drackconf ?> system ?> services ) iptables is listed as stopped ( it is also selected as run on boot ) if i click start nothing happens. I am using mandrake 9.2rc2 and i am using the enterprise kernel ( i have to to get al my ram recognised ) Please advise. Eska
  6. I cant stand totem and have removed it. On my system it locks up all the time with alsa and does not go full screen on tv out. Im sure these are just my problems but one thing i really hate about any media player is not being able to drag and drop in the playlist. This is a problem with mplayer too. If they would make the playlist more like xmms mplayer would be the ultimate media player.
  7. here is a copy of my config file. I copied a bunch of stuff from the one that the ati driver created and pasted it into my previous one.
  8. it wirks for me on my green speedtouch. It is indeed speedtch I am no expert but from what i can tell 9.2 has the speedtch.o module which it attempts to load at boot even though built in support for the speedtouch already exists. You get an error insmod speedtch cant be loaded ( or something like that ) All we are doing is disabling support for speedtch.o I dont really know why it is there at all, but i dont know much. Enjoy. Eska
  9. this is more of a statement than a question. I have had problems getting connected with 9.2 The speedtouch would flash red and then stick. For anyone who has the same problem here is the solution. Open your /etc/modules.conf and add the line alias speedtch off save and restart and all should be well. Eska
  10. Thank for your help I am now sorted. For anyone else who wants to know the nameservers for BTinternet are nameserver 194.73.73.94 nameserver 194.73.73.95 nameserver 194.72.6.57 There is aslo a second resolve.conf in /etc/ppp/ I updated them both and things are now well. Thanks Again Eska
  11. Thanks for the help. Question 1 is sorted. Sorry but i must not have made sense in Q2. I don't have shorewall installed ( i don't want to either, i like guarddog ) I was just mentioned it so you would know it wasn't what was stopping me accessing web pages. I tried to ping google and it worked, from what i have read i have a problem with my /etc/resolv.conf at the moment it is blank but i think it is the key to getting the web working. Please advise, Eska
  12. I have built a new linux box and i have a couple of problems i have not had before. 1. My ethernet adaptor does not show up as an option in the mandrake control panel. I have complied the driver and added it in with the rest in /lib/modules/ it is a 3com 3c2000.o driver. I can add it with the insmod but how do i get mandrake to do it for me at boot. 2. in the can get the speedtouch to connect and when i do an ifconfig i can see it and the looopback. The problem is i cant access any web sites through browsers, the firewall is off. How do i get round this. Many thanks, Eska
