  1. My gnome install is a minimal install so will do a task-gnome install with another 430Mb of packages and see what happens.
  2. Just logged into kde4 and the icons are there. Logged back into Gnome and no icons in Ooo. Summat's going wrong somewhere!
  3. Not quite the same But still no icons
  4. Have deleted them and restarted and still no icons. Only had first 2 directories btw. Have removed Ooo and deleted the directories and am now reinstalling. Cheers.
  5. Yes, that's selected. But there are no icons, just the descriptive text.
  6. No, I mean the toolbars in openoffice itself. There are no icons, just text like save, print, justify etc.
  7. Switched from kde4 to Gnome and now I find that all the openoffice apps have no icons on the toolbar :P Tools-options-openoffice-view-icons in menus is selected. Any ideas? Ta.
  8. Some desktop effects. No Compiz though. It always hangs my system on any install.
  9. Have installed Gnome and videos and all that play fine. Methinks something amiss with KDE4 rather than 2009.
  10. AMD 64-bit 3400+ or roundabouts. ATI Mobility 9700 128Mb 1Gb RAM 80Gb HD It's more than capable of playing videos and all that stuff. Worked fine on Mandriva 2008, KDE 3.5, just gone a bit squiffy on 2009/KDE4
  11. Thanks all. task-gnome sounds good task-gnome-minimal sounds better Ta.
  12. 2009 KDE4 Is there a recognised way of installing the gnome desktop onto an existing 2009 KDE4 system? Maybe a metapackage in urpmi? Ta.
  13. 2009, KDE4. My laptop has always had instances where X freezes, ever since switching from kernel 2.4. This shows itself in the graphical system being unresponsive for a second or two, maybe happening every couple of minutes. Since upgrading from 2008/kde3.10 I have noticed this occurring but also sending any audio and video into a 'judder' as well. Also playing a dvd for the first time it was unwatchable as this interruption became more frequent, like every 6 or 7 seconds. Opening a terminal and using top it appears that when I'm playing audio or a dvd then X uses about 60% cpu and plasma uses about 30% :o Having no extra processes with the system 'at rest' then x uses about 3% ( what I'd expect ) with plasma flipping from below 1% to about 15%. There would seem to be an errata regarding this here but looking through the xorg.0.log file I don't see what would appear to be the tell-tale evidence to suggest this is the issue. I'm not able to tinker with the linux-nonfb boot until later tonight but was wondering if anyone had some insight into this before I go fiddling? Ta.

    Strigi

Having a further nose in this it seems Strigi is working with the nepomuk semantic desktop in Mandriva. Seems it should be useable in Dolphin but the search function there seems no different from the konqueror one. Methinks I'll remove strigi and just load up beagle or google desktop. Least I know what they are and how to use them. John, I did check the other kde4 thread and there was a link there to some kde documentation, but that didn't contain any reference to strigi either.

    Strigi

Lost me as well. This is the only post on this board that references strigi.
  16. Mandriva 2009 Regardless of what number you set in the copies box of Okular it still only prints one copy. Anyone else come across this?
  17. Worked well for me. Biggest problem was working out what Mandriva had actually upgraded! Good work!
  18. Upgraded to 2009 / KDE4. Home folder icon no longer available on the taskbar. Any idea how to put it back on? [moved from Software by spinynorman]

    Strigi

Upgraded to 2009 and there's some sort of file indexer called Strigi running. Question is how do I use it? Can't seem to find any commands to open a search box or whatever. Ta
  20. Thanks all, by hook or by crook it all seems to be present now.
  21. Might be sorted. Just downloading kdebase4
  22. As title says. All upgraded via the internet update but it starts with kde3.5. KDE is the only KDE option on login session control and this runs 3.5. Any ideas how to get this kde4 working? Ta
  23. Nice write up Adam. The dodgy releases after 10.0 was one of the reasons I left Mandrake for other shores.
  24. My router is assigning address by dhcp. Wouldn't that cause problems with the above solution? Also wondering if /etc/hosts contains the info before it went pear shaped? Cheers. I'll look tonight when I get home.
  25. Thanks Ian. With your suggestion I'm at least able to access the folders so I'll live with that. Maybe when I upgrade Mandriva it'll pick the names up again. Ta.
