  1. Thought that deleting the ./..amarok directory would do it but no joy, must be reading it from the id3 tags or whatever. Have now checked each file using musicbrainz and all is well. Cheers
  2. I've been tidying some audio file names up to make the display more meaningful, both in the file browser and within amarok. So say I change a file name from gibberish.mp3 to songname.mp3, amarok isn't displaying the altered title. So I cut the file out of the directory and put it somewhere else. Start amarok and that deleted the content entry. Shutdown amarok. Paste the renamed file back into the folder. Restart amarok and it reads it in with the gibberish file title as the name. So amarok is storing this in an sqlite database somewhere and I need to find out how to get in there and either delete the entry or tinker with it. See what I need to do? Any ideas? Ta
  3. Thanks, will look into it
  4. I've often had the experience you have John but as you say revisiting or clearing the cache and cookies usually seems to fix it. Not this time though. There are specific pages that refuse to co-operate. Plays fine in Opera though!
  5. Usually bombs out when viewing a page with a flash component, but funnily enough, not youtube. Terminal gives [chris@localhost ~]$ firefox3 LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libtote m-complex-plugin-gstreamer.so [/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libtotem-complex-plugin-gstreamer .so: undefined symbol: _ZN13nsTArray_base9sEmptyHdrE] /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.1/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 6171 Segmentation fault " $prog" ${1+"$@"} [chris@localhost ~]$ 2008 KDE 3.5 fully updated and using flash 10
  6. That was it! Didn't realise the previous versions were already installed. Have removed them now.
  7. I've deselected a number of packages during an update simply because I don't need them. Stuff like nvidia drivers and language packs. However the update icon tells me that there are packages available for update, the ones that I deslected. Any way to remove them completely from the update process? Ta.
  8. Thanks Adam, I'll sit tight for the graphical update. It worked well for me last time.
  9. Hmm, it's broke! Updated the sources to 2009 at easyurpmi and it errored on a few updates. So selected task-kde4 to install for the hell of it and found I couldn't log in except as root. Have done a quick install. So where to from here? How do I get safely to 2009?
  10. Cheers Yossarian, will do that tonight. I found 2009/Gnome to be excellent.
  11. Just had to reinstall Mandriva as my partition got toasted when I installed a distro on another partition. Previously I'd used the graphical/online/blue arrow upgrade method but I believe this has been pulled. Is it recommended to upgrade by changing the sources as an alternative? Ta.

    digikam bug?

For 2009, KDE4 I found that the draggable view borders that seperate the image from the supplementary data were shut down over the image. Just needed to drag them back to actually uncover the image.
  13. Getting a login box popup whenever I view this post. Anyone else see it?
  14. There is the blank screen on logout that affected 2008 with the KDM login manager, maybe this is still the problem?
  15. Can't do compiz :( Trying them now, very nice. AWN also needs compiz. Will have a look at the Cairo Dock. Have used Yakuake in the past, did try Tilda once but seemed a bit rough round the edges. Will try again. Thanks, will check out. Thanks for the detailed reply AI, appreciated.
  16. Thanks Ian, will give it a go later.
  17. Thanks all. I should add that my graphics chipset ( Radeon M9700 ) doesn't get on well with Compiz - frequent lockups and all that. Been having a look at gnome-look.org but a lot of what I try and do seems flakey in it's implementation. gDesklets for example, 20% of what I try and implement just doesn't work. Will have a look at the icon sets, themes and wallpapers there. Thanks
  18. 2009 As title says, looks a little plain to me. What can I do / install to make it a bit more exciting? Ta. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  19. Thanks for the suggestions, will give it a go tonight. Ta.
  20. Due to a buggy driver for my rt2500 wifi chipset I have to manually run this below each time I start. $ su # iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M Any idea how to autostart this, seeing as it requires a password input? Ta [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  21. Thought I'd have another go at this! Turned off all desktop effects and killed the pic frame plasmoid ( only one I had working ) and videos now play fine and X doesn't seem to go over 30% cpu. Thanks AdamW!
  22. Damn that was hard work when it shouldn't have been! :P Clutching at what straws remained I installed these packages et voila!, more icons than I can shake a stick at. openoffice.org-help-en_GB openoffice.org-l10n-en_GB
  23. Yup, just installed that David. I'll leave this running overnight to install the rest of the gnome stuff as it's getting late.
  24. No compiz or desktop effects David.
